Bob Dylan. My dad is obsessed, saw him lots in the early days. He, and I will be gutted when he dies.

Paul Wellor, same reason but for my partner

MeatLoaf. Love him, his music. I’ll be so sad when he dies..

I wonder how many famous people are scrolling through frantically to see if we'll miss them ???

Clawdy · 22/02/2020 08:31

It's obvious that the death of family members is far more important and devastating than someone you've never met, but nevertheless we are allowed to feel sad when someone you've loved watching and following for years, dies!

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2020 08:44

I was very sad when Ella Fitzgerald Leonard Cohen and David Bowie died.
I’d be similarly sad when Bette Midler lily tomlin Jimmy Carter Liza Minnelli Ruth Bader Ginsberg die.
I’ll be extremely upset when David Attenborough dies.
As for the queen - I’m not a royalist but it will be historically momentous for us. Given national mourning, banks etc shut, lying in state, coronation, etc (they’ll announce it on flights apparently?!) I think it will be absolutely huge. Not sure I will exactly be sad but it will be a shock when it happens just for its significance.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/02/2020 08:49

I think posters saying they don't care because they don't know famous people are missing the point. In the case of most, it's the influence they had on your life at particular times and the sudden reminder of passing years that affects people. In the case of the Queen it's the historical significance.

Motherhippo · 22/02/2020 08:51

David Attenborough. The ONLY national treasure in my opinion

winewolfhowls · 22/02/2020 09:04

The mystery Bob guessing was very funny.

I'm not one for celebrities but... Terry Pratchett really got to me when he died, his writing was just so lively and intelligent I can't believe there will be no more.
I will feel a bit similar when Stephen King goes, hopefully not for many many years.

Bloody gutted when I heard we had lost a chuckle brother.

Patrick Stewart
Queen
John Cleese
Billy Connelly
Judi Dench
Strangely I also put Arnie S into this category

All characters that seem to have more spark and fizz to their personalities than your new fangled celebrity.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/02/2020 09:09

Arnie S
Arnie is a bit of a hero - his put downs to racist trolls are brilliant - considered and erudite.

BettyCrockaShit · 22/02/2020 10:30

Kathy Burke. Hopefully a long way off, but she is just so funny and insightful.

PointlessAddict · 22/02/2020 11:00

I’m not missing the point at all @CaptainMyCaptain. I will feel sad when some of these people die, especially the Queen. But to say I’d be “dreading” the death of a woman I basically don’t know and who is in her 90s would be absurd

Fourfurrymonsters · 22/02/2020 11:02

Sir David Attenborough. I met him once and was as lovely as you’d expect. He’s the best of humanity so I’ll be gutted when he goes.

ralfeesmum · 22/02/2020 11:16

Well, the Queen. She's been a stable influence through thick and thin for so long it's hard to see how Charles can follow an act like that.

namechangedasscared · 22/02/2020 11:17

I always feel weird at getting upset at a celebrity dying - it feels like because I didn’t know them, I have no right or reason to be sad. Does that make sense?

But I know for me, the one above any other that will really hurt is when Kylie Minogue passes. I remember reading about her getting breast cancer and being worried for her. I grew up with her music, and the lyrics of her songs always seemed to fit with everything I was going through as that time.

I will also feel sad when Steve Walsh (ex Leicester City player and my hero since I was a teenager), Sarah Michelle Geller and Anthony Stewart Head pass. Although hopefully I will be gone before SMG. I have at least met both Steve and Tony on a few occasions, so I guess that will make it feel more of a “justifiable” upset.

ThermosTime · 22/02/2020 11:17

Me

MoiraRose · 22/02/2020 12:01

I think dreading is too strong a word, but people I will be very sad about when they die:

Anne Reid - very underrated but I just really like her

Bob Dylan - loved him for years and saw him several years back

Morrissey, Robert Smith, Shakin Stevens... my childhood/teenage music years right there

Eugene Levy

The Queen, because unless William and Kate follow her onto the throne I think there will be a lot of unrest. As a lot of anti-feeling about Charles being king, following the death of Diana, and he and his present wife being adulterers.

ArriettyJones · 22/02/2020 12:40

Unrest? About that? I very much doubt it. As the whole messy truth has unfolded, their story has just become a cautionary tale about the perils of arranged marriages.

VanGoghsDog · 22/02/2020 12:40

Tim Booth, but he's only 60 currently.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 22/02/2020 12:45

Attenborough will be a loss. Julie Andrews and Anthony Hopkins are two headlines I would also be sad to see.

The ones that have touched me most recently were Doris Day (despite her great age) whose work I've always loved, and Rik Mayall.

IdblowJonSnow · 22/02/2020 12:49

The queen Obvs.
And people like Kate Winslet, kate moss, Leo DiCaprio because they are of 'my era' so it'll be a bit scary.
Also I guess people of my parents era like Goldie Hawn, kurt Russell etc for same reason.
Disconcerting thoughts!

IdblowJonSnow · 22/02/2020 12:52

Oh and fave authors like kate Atkinson. I would be truly gutted by that; she's a genius. And J K Rowling, that would be shocking. Also GR Martin, he needs to finish off the Game of Thrones series...

SalmonOfKnowledge · 22/02/2020 13:21

I'm Irish so my opinion won't be sought but King Charles shouldn't horrify the British public. So he cheated on Diana, but the whole situation was a charade, he felt cornered in to it. It only happened because he misinterpreted a letter from Prince Philip. PP was telling him to stop seeing Diana before it was assumed that she must have slept with him, therefore, ruining her marriage chances with somebody ELSE.

Prince Charles is a bit ernest but I think he'll be a good king . Not much to compare it to.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/02/2020 13:25

*But to say I’d be “dreading” the death of a woman I basically don’t know and who is in her 90s would be absurd,
@PointlessAddict then you really are missing my point, it's not about personal loss it's about the wider consequences.

SalmonOfKnowledge · 22/02/2020 13:28

Generally speaking yes, but if a person were a real monarchist I can understand how the Queen's death would leave a really tangible fear for what comes next!

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/02/2020 13:30

I'm not a raging monarchist and what might come next may well be better but it's still a big change and I think I will be a bit emotional.

suzy13woozy32 · 22/02/2020 15:37

Younger people generally are not so interested in the Monarchy as previous generations have been. They have only known an ageing Queen and the prospect of an ageing king and queen
does not interest them.
William and Kate, with their family, would give the whole thing a real boost.
