Am curious

I'm 53, I'd say I'm middle aged.

Am I wrong?

I'd say 40 onwards.

bloodywhitecat · 18/02/2020 20:16

I'm 56, I am definitely middle aged (some days I am bloody ancient, it depends on whether the fosterlings aged 14 weeks and 3 years have run me ragged or not).

Trahira · 18/02/2020 20:16

40 to 60

GiantKitten · 18/02/2020 20:17

I suppose strictly speaking, given life expectancy these days, it’s 40-50.

But remind my how old Jennifer Aniston is...???

Pipandmum · 18/02/2020 20:18

45-60 is middle aged, though I wouldn't call a 61 year old elderly- I think of that as over 80. So what is 60-80?

ssd · 18/02/2020 20:18

I think 40 is too young to be middle aged though?

OP posts:
MadeForThis · 18/02/2020 20:19

50

MaggieFS · 18/02/2020 20:19

48?

Ohffs66 · 18/02/2020 20:20

I'm 47. I'm nowhere near middle aged IMO!!

Mrsjayy · 18/02/2020 20:21

I am 48 and middle aged. 56 with fosterlings bless ya you are doing a wonderful thing @bloodywhitecat

Alsohuman · 18/02/2020 20:21

If 40’s too young to be middle aged, how long do you expect to live?

Mumof1andacat · 18/02/2020 20:21

50 - 70. I would say 75 plus is elderly. No sure where you sit at 70-75!

Wannabangbang · 18/02/2020 20:22

With my family history I'd class 30s as middle aged as you are half way to 60

Spied · 18/02/2020 20:23

45

RJnomore1 · 18/02/2020 20:23

It’s about 10 years older than I am at any given point.

JolieOBrien · 18/02/2020 20:24

It all depends on the person ... I might be classed as middle aged but don't look it or feel it.Wink

LaurieFairyCake · 18/02/2020 20:24

It's 45-70

70 plus is elderly

FAQs · 18/02/2020 20:24

It’s odd to think all the spice girls are middles aged, Alisha Dixon etc are all middle aged, as am I but I feel it!

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 18/02/2020 20:24

If you consider it as three ages of adulthood, then you get 20-40 as young, 40-60 middle aged, 60-80 as old age.

Or you count young as under 35, middle as 35-70, old as 70-105 which I think fits better with how people see themselves.

DM and MiL (80-84) both complain about places full of old people.

Whatever way you count it, 50 is bang smack in middle age.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/02/2020 20:24

40-60.

I'm 42 and I'm definitely middle aged, though if you said 'middle aged woman' with no other info, I suppose I'd imagine someone around 50.

I don't agree with the person who said up to 70. Pensioners are not middle aged, it's not the middle age pension.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 18/02/2020 20:24

You really can’t call 70 middle aged. Not unless you think you’ll live to 140 anyway!

Forcryingoutloudwtf · 18/02/2020 20:26

35 - 50 is middle aged presuming we can hope to live until we are 70 - 100.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/02/2020 20:27

I'd say between 50-65. I don't think of women in their 40s as middle aged. My mum is 51 and I don't really think of her as middle aged though either!

elastamum · 18/02/2020 20:30

I am 55 and definitely middle aged, but although I might look a bit past it I am as happy as a lark!

4amWitchingHour · 18/02/2020 20:30

@Gwenhwyfar
Except my projected pension age at the moment is 67. And will probably be 70 or older by the time I get there (I'm 33).

I reckon 50 to 65 is middle aged, 65 to 80 doesn't have a category at the moment, and 80+ is old. Ability and mindset has changed so much with the advances in healthcare over the past few decades that the traditional 'middle aged' is not something that can be related to anymore
