Am curious

I'm 53, I'd say I'm middle aged.

Life expectancy was lower in the past due to the infant mortality rate. If you got to 5 you had a good chance of getting to 70.

Child is under 18
Young adult is 18-39
Middle aged is 40-59 (prime of life)
Old is 60-79
elderly is 80+

DailyKegelReminder · 18/02/2020 23:05

Depends when you ask me. At 18 I would have said over 30 Blush Now at 26 I think over 40/45. When I'm 30 it will probably be 50 Grin

MyDcAreMarvel · 18/02/2020 23:22

55 plus I would say.

TweaksDadsHat · 18/02/2020 23:26

50s to 60s

But then I don't think I could desribe Tess Daly or Jennifer Anniston as such.

Itwasntme1 · 18/02/2020 23:46

Jennifer Anniston is 51. If course she is middle aged. I think you are confused about the definition of middle aged?? It doesn’t mean frumpy or overweight or unfashionable. It means the middle of your life??

StarbucksSmarterSister · 19/02/2020 00:07

It's always 10 years older than you are. Grin

However at 63 I can accept I'm definitely middle aged, although of course realistically I know I am not in the middle of my life span.

Runnerduck34 · 19/02/2020 09:28

I always thought of middle age as the middle of your life.
If life expectancy is around 80ish then by 40 you are definitely middle aged.
By 50 I always thought you were old as be honest not many people live to 100.
However now I'm 48 I may change my parameters 😆
I think middle age is generally accepted as from 40 ish to late 50s. But as I said it really depends on how old you are to what you consider middle aged!

Mrsjayy · 19/02/2020 18:36

Jennifer Aniston is gorgeous and 51 we should be whooping at middle age no of course we don't all have her looks and "help" but middle age isn't frumpy or anything to be ashamed of!

Poetryinaction · 19/02/2020 18:43

40-50

PickAChew · 19/02/2020 18:49

I'm 50 and a bit creaky but far from old, ffs!

MarshaBradyo · 19/02/2020 18:50

45 to 65

Or maybe 40 to 60 can’t decide

managedmis · 19/02/2020 19:30

60s

Purpletigers · 19/02/2020 19:39

40 onwards

Purpletigers · 19/02/2020 19:39

Over 70 is old

Claricethecat45 · 19/02/2020 19:44

I have taken my 60th Birthday very very badly :( In my head Im 37 - and grateful though I am that I have got 'here' I do now feel I am classified as OLD....but that sounds better than 'elderly'.....

QueenOfOversharing · 19/02/2020 20:18

The BBC said 55 therefore I (52 on Saturday... all gifts welcome) am positively youthful & will clearly live past 100.

InfiniteCurve · 19/02/2020 20:46

I'm 60, and I really really can't identify as old.
I'm still working, probably for another 10 years,I'm healthier than I was 10 years ago in some ways. And I had my children late so I'm doing uni stuff, and have no prospect of being a grand parent anytime soon.
But I don't think I'm middle aged either Sad
So in some sort of no-mans land.
I think middle age is up to about 55 and old is 70 plus - we need a new category!

kenandbarbie · 19/02/2020 20:53

47-67

Microdot · 19/02/2020 20:53

Perhaps that's where 'Senior' comes in...not mad about it but at least it sounds a bit more respectful than old/elderly. It suggests you've reached a certain position in life but not crocked so may well still be working/contributing

MyNewBearTotoro · 19/02/2020 20:55

I think it depends on the person. I’d say it starts somewhere between 45-50 and ends somewhere between 60-70. Some people definitely seem ‘old’ in their 60s but others really don’t.

mindproject · 19/02/2020 20:56

When you stop getting asked for ID when buying alcohol you are middle aged. I'm not there yet at 47.
