@Gingaaarghpussy Flowers I am sorry.
The joys of our parent's mark us. Like others if your DM was a fantastic DM but gay you wouldn't feel like this.

getyourarseoffthequattro · 07/02/2020 13:32

ginga thats sad, have you seen a therapist at all? it might help you come to terms with it all.

dunny whats so funny? i mean, you cant seem to explain what you mean without being insulting and rude so..

karencantobe · 07/02/2020 13:33

Of course a parent who has been married to your mother/father coming out as gay is going to be devastating.

But Philip Schofield is not brave. If he was he would have come out as gay when it was actually difficult to be gay. He stayed in the closet because it was the easier choice for his career.

dunnyplop · 07/02/2020 13:33

@SarahAndQuack I mean I've seen hundreds of threads about can I afford dc, can I work with dc, we can't afford a holiday this yr, christmas will be tight, etc why did the posters not realise that their dc will just be grateful they were given life. 🙄

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 07/02/2020 13:33

That is the bizarre bit. Separate first then do all the coming out announcements.

Yes that is bizarre. I haven’t seen his TV interview today- did he even mention that his wife and he were now separated/separating? Or was it all just about how supportive she is?

shushymcshush · 07/02/2020 13:34

@sunshinesupermum

You've nailed it. I can appreciate it must be hard to pretend to be something you are not, especially in his line of work (no way he'd be on all the kids tv shows if he'd announced he was gay back in the 80s).

But good heavens above, his family!!!! What does that do to a wife and kids I don't know. They are expected to have to smile and say supportive and lovely things, whilst PS has his moment of "bravery".

Also impeccably timed for big coverage in the weekend papers etc.

smotheroffive · 07/02/2020 13:34

Noone cares if you're gay PS!

Get on with it. Its your life, gay or not and you've had a very lucrative career, and treated those around you pretty poorly whilst you make a lot of money.

I've not heard his wife say she supports him.

He's feeding the public words that only she can say. Whether you believe them is up to you.

Alsohuman · 07/02/2020 13:34

I don’t understand the “wasted years” thing. They’ve been married for 27 years and have two daughters, presumably until this bombshell it was a happy marriage. While this obviously a nightmare for his wife it doesn’t negate more than a quarter of a century of happiness and contentment.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/02/2020 13:35

How is this brave?

It took him decades and a family ti do it.

Bloody hell.

smotheroffive · 07/02/2020 13:36

Hes not pretending because noone has to tell anyone , as newsflash, its noone else's business.

Otoh, if he's been deceiving his wife and family thats another matter.

dunnyplop · 07/02/2020 13:36

@getyourarseoffthequattro if you can't even get it by reading your own posts then what is the point in me pointing it out to you?

Straycatstrut · 07/02/2020 13:36

Holly made me sick too, fawning over him. Not a care for the wife. He in my opinion is an odious little man who seems to only care for himself.

I thought this. If Holly's husband did this to her would she be as quick to hug him and congratulate him on his bravery?

How would Holly feel if she was watching Ruth interview her newly "out" husband, all hugs and love and support - giving no thought to Holly or their children?

getyourarseoffthequattro · 07/02/2020 13:37

@dunnyplop if i am so thick why dont you educate me?

go on, tell me why i should give a shit that its a friday

karencantobe · 07/02/2020 13:37

Come on we don't know if he was happy and content He might genuinely see it as 27 years wasted. Just as people who have divorced after a very long but unhappy marriage often say they have wasted years.

But he could have come out years ago. Plenty of people did. Yes it would have affected his career. Just like it did those who were brave enough to come out and fight for the freedoms Schofield now takes for granted.

Aesopfable · 07/02/2020 13:39

Why are his family having to be supportive, why isn’t he saying “I am trying to be supportive of my family, especially my wife who was expecting some return on her investment of time and energy bringing up our kids but instead I have announced that I am buggering off to enjoy my freedom”

karencantobe · 07/02/2020 13:41

@smotheroffive of course he has been pretending. Did you miss the fact that Schofield has in the past told the public he is married and been photographed with his wife?
In terms of no-one else's business, he would not have had the successful career he had if he had lied.

I have far more respect for women like Claire Balding who have always been out in their career and worked hard against prejudice to get where they are. That is brave.

Theredjellybean · 07/02/2020 13:41

I don't think he is brave at all.. I think he is incredibly selfish and self serving.
He married for his own reasons and now is coming out again no doubt for his own reasons.. And no thought to his family.

No doubt his wife has known for yrs... I certainly did with my dexh.
But ps could have just carried on quietly living his private life, let his wife live hers and Co parent together.
He has said he has no intention of being in a relationship with a man at this moment so why the eff do this?? +
Why.. Because he is an attention seeking sleb... And needs to keep his career afloat.
I wonder if it will become a transitioning thing next... Ps being brave and beautiful in a dress...

My only sympathy is with his wife and children, not because he is gay but because he is a selfish man

1forAll74 · 07/02/2020 13:42

It would be just the way I thought Schofield would choose to come out as gay, in front of millions, and with that cringey display in the studio, all the embraces and hugs and tears, all showy. Why do these people have to tell the world about their lives at all, especially when they have to deal with their more important home life situation in this case now.

Onemorecrisp · 07/02/2020 13:43

He is such a prick! Why is everyone having a pity party and being supportive.

So it’s ok for him to lie for 30yrs have children then go wander off to have some great gay single life!

dunnyplop · 07/02/2020 13:45

tell me why i should give a shit that its a friday

No one said you did though....See my point has clearly gone way over your head.

EdinaMonsoon · 07/02/2020 13:45

I've just watched the whole TM clip. I think it's very telling that he quite determinedly said to Holly regarding his wife that "We have no secrets". It is quite possible that his wife has known for many, many years. Possibly even throughout the duration of their marriage. Quite possibly they had an arrangement of sorts? Perhaps she called time and said she'd had enough/wants to separate etc: therefore giving him no choice but to release a statement before speculation caused her even greater pain? We don't know.

Irrespective of the detail, my heart goes out to her because this must be difficult to handle regardless of celebrity or not. And this isn't a story that will go away now the announcement has been made. In fact, it more or less opens the floodgates for "kiss & tell" stories. Within minutes of that statement being released, I would lay money on the tabloids having started digging for evidence (if they don't have it already).

I do think he came across particularly badly in the interview - not helped by Holly's infantilising behaviour towards him. But he came across incredibly narcissistic and I agree that he seemed to want to have a hug with Eamon, who clearly put a stop to that with a handshake. PS does deserve compassion because coming out is rarely a straightforward or easy thing to go through. And whilst I think the 80's were a time of enlightenment amongst certain groups in society, on the whole the mood was very conservative & being gay was still seen as something you should keep quiet. Particularly when it came to working with children because unfortunately there were still a bunch of wankers who believed gay men were all child abusers, given half a chance. You only have to read Elton John's autobiography to realise how much he was hounded in the 80s by the Sun - despite having come out in Rolling Stone magazine years before. The tide will quickly turn on PS, I believe. It will be all "brave Phil" for now but you can't honestly believe that the homophobic shitty red tops give a toss about protecting gay rights or showing a gay person in a positive light?

getyourarseoffthequattro · 07/02/2020 13:47

@dunnyplop so what is your point then? because you dont seem to be able to use your words very well.

Hastynamechange · 07/02/2020 13:47

It doesn’t negate the good times no. But as someone who had their prime wasted by someone who had other agendas, it hurts and causes massive trust issues. Being part of an elaborate lie you know nothing about makes you resentful.

So no, I don’t see it as brave. It could have been done quietly.

dunnyplop · 07/02/2020 13:48

@getyourarseoffthequattro just reread your posts again & maybe one day you'll get it. In the meantime I'm sorry....

getyourarseoffthequattro · 07/02/2020 13:50

@dunnyplop i have, and i still dont get what you mean. Sorry for what? not being able to use your words properly?

I dont know why you think you're being clever here, you're just making yourself look condescending and rude, whilst in fact it is you who cannot seem to explain what you're going on about
