If you were staying at someones house at this time of year, what tog duvet would you expect?

We are all warm bods in my house so the duvets we have are all around 2.5 tog.

We haven't had anyone stay for years but have people this weekend. I was sure I had a 7 tog king put a way somewhere but can only find that in a single. My spare king is 2.5.

That's too cool for other folk isn't it? I also have a blanket and it's quite a thick duvet cover.

I was just going to pick up a cheapy one but seem to have the choice of 10.5, 13.5 or 4.5?

Would 4.5 be too cool as well? We will never use a 10.5 or 13.5. Confused

We alll use 4.5 tog all year but in winter brushed cotton/flannel bedding or micro fibre .

I put an old (past it) duvet under the DC sheets to make the bed cosier .

Concestor · 06/02/2020 22:38

13 tog all year.

This thread is turning into classic competitive MN. I don't believe for a minute the OP is toasty warm naked under a duvet so thin it's barely more than a sheet, with windows open in Scotland at this time of year. But I expect more posts from people who are warm under just a pillowcase with a fan blowing all night.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 06/02/2020 22:42

I'm also in Scotland and only use my 4.5 tog duvets during the one warm week/fortnight of the summer.

Currently using a 10.5, but with extra blankets on top. Also sleep with the window open, but I get cold easily. I need numerous blankets available at all times!

Mines 10.5 ....I’m fairly warm person so in the winter it’s perfect and summer it’s a bit heavy but I don’t have the space to store an extra one. It’s a good all rounder to be fair.

JollyGiraffe12 · 06/02/2020 22:44

10.5 with additional blankets

MelanieFrontage · 06/02/2020 22:50

Brrrrrr, it’s a 15tog on all beds in this house in the winter. Mostly made up from layers that people can add or remove as needed.
Mind you we do live in an old house with no heating upstairs and the only heating downstairs is two wood burners.
There is no switching the heating on, we have none!
I’d not change it for the world, the house is cold and very fresh for 9 months and we have to put up with freezing for a few months BUT.......
we don’t have colds etc and I love a cold house.
If we had a 2.5tog duvet the local services would be around in a few weeks to remove our frozen dead bodies!

Comefromaway · 06/02/2020 22:52

I use 10.5 in summer & 13.5 in winter.

A 2.5 tog would have me booking a hotel.

TARSCOUT · 06/02/2020 22:53

Just bought a 13.5 double in Asda for £8 whilst regular one being laundered. In Scotland too, 2.5 isn't even a sheet for me!

Hmm Maybe don't judge people by your own standards - I have no need or wish to lie, the post wasn't about me it was about what is suitable for guests. It would also seem that I'm not alone and other posters use similar Togs in similar conditions.

My house is warm, DS spends all his time in t-shirt and shorts.

Do they even make 2.5tog!?!

Why don't you invest in a medium weight wool duvet. No cruel feathers or horrible flame retardants needed and they regulate your temperature.

I have a medium weight wool with a bedspread at this time of year.

As a comparison I would use a 13 tog in a normal duvet at this time of year.

Offer hot water bottles whatever you do and extra blankets. There's nothing worse than being too cold.

MelanieFrontage · 06/02/2020 22:57

Even in my unheated house I go to bed under my 15tog duvet but I do stick my feet out and I also keep turning the pillow, I HAVE to have a cold pillow and cold feet. My body though needs to be warm!

MiniMum97 · 06/02/2020 22:59

You only have one blanket! Wtf! I have about 20 or more blankets and bedspreads. Don't you like being cosy?

Get some proper duvets and blankets in for when you have guests. You can't leave people cold.

cocomelon23 · 06/02/2020 23:01

We have 4.5 tog all year round with the window open.

caringcarer · 06/02/2020 23:02

We use 4.5 in summer and 15.5 in winter. I feel the cold as thyroid problem. Heating switched at 10.30pm as husband and I both asthmatics. I would freeze with less than 13.5 tog. I buy from Asda and cost £15 for king size.

iswhois · 06/02/2020 23:04

We have 4.5 all year round and sleep with fan on/window open. It really is personal preference

applespearsbears · 06/02/2020 23:05

Our house is cold but I can't have more than 4.5 tog all year round but I sleep on a cotton futon and I think that retains heat

RaininSummer · 06/02/2020 23:06

I would want 13.5 and a spare blanket and water bottle too as i get very cold when I sleep (hot flushes have been a revelation).

Lozz22 · 06/02/2020 23:10

14 tog all year round for me. I'm always cold

SunshineAvenue · 06/02/2020 23:11

Where are you, Barbados? Isn't 2.5 tog basically a sheet

I've got a 9.5 tog on and a bedspread and a blanket on top of that. I would be freezing at your house!

MelanieFrontage · 06/02/2020 23:15

I’m about to go upstairs and it’s a wrench, I’m going to go from a lovely warm room to a freezing cold room.
My nose is freezing, that’s another completely different thing.
I hate going to bed, it’s soooo cold upstairs
However, within a few mins I’ll be fine. As long as I have my 15tog cover!

shiningstar2 · 06/02/2020 23:16

I would get a cheap 10.5 but also leave your 2.5 folded at the bottom of the bed. If they are cold types they can add the 2.5 tog to the 10.5. If they prefer a thinner tog they can just use the 2.5.

copperoliver · 06/02/2020 23:16

13.5. X

anon2000000000 · 06/02/2020 23:17

10.5 plus throw cover.

Boireannachlaidir · 06/02/2020 23:17

People leave their heating on at night? Just get more blankets and save the Earth's resources, no?

Duvets are horrible.

Horehound · 06/02/2020 23:18

I'm also in Scotland and j use the same one all year round.
I didn't know this was a thing! I have no idea what tog it is!
