If you were staying at someones house at this time of year, what tog duvet would you expect?

We are all warm bods in my house so the duvets we have are all around 2.5 tog.

We haven't had anyone stay for years but have people this weekend. I was sure I had a 7 tog king put a way somewhere but can only find that in a single. My spare king is 2.5.

That's too cool for other folk isn't it? I also have a blanket and it's quite a thick duvet cover.

I was just going to pick up a cheapy one but seem to have the choice of 10.5, 13.5 or 4.5?

Would 4.5 be too cool as well? We will never use a 10.5 or 13.5. Confused

I've never seen a 2.5 or a 7
I have a 10.5 with a throw available.

Our house is probably around 17-18 at night. The heating goes off from 21 C at 10 pm and then gradually cools down overnight and the heating would only come back on if it got down to 16 C, which it only does in the depths of winter.

My internal thermostat is all over the place, as I'm usually freezing cold and will be sat under a blanket with jumper and slippers on at 21 C but when I'm in bed, I'm roasting under the 4.5 tog quilt. I'm pretty much never at a comfortable temperature, always too hot or too cold.

Kirsty

The one that we lost that was either 2.5 or 3 tog was from Debenhams, but I suspect that this is something that you won't be able to buy until later in the year, as most people seem to think we should be all bundled up under 10.5 monsters right now.

Ikea do 2.5 tog duvets - barely worth bothering with imo.

They used to do 9 which was perfect for us, but don't do them any more.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/02/2020 15:47

I tell a lie, Dunelm have reasonably priced 3 tog synthetic duvets, close enough?

They seem spendy considering there's nothing to them and they're manmade fibre

Skyejuly · 06/02/2020 15:51

10.5

ffswhatnext · 06/02/2020 15:52

I don’t have a quilt. I have a massive throw and a bed sheet or quilt cover under it.
No heating on in my room over night. Quite often the window open and I still get too hot.
And yes I’m in the UK.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2020 16:18

my 2.5s are a mixture of Next, M&S etc but don't seem to be around at the moment - give it a couple of months and they should be back in. I'm sure I had a 1.5 at some point but couldn't find a replacement.

ACautionaryTale · 06/02/2020 16:19

2.5 at the moment - often just the divet cover in summer

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2020 16:19

Just taken a look on Amazon and they seem to have the full range of lower togs available at lowish prices including a 1.5 I noticed. :)

When D FiL comes to stay I put two summer duvets inside the duvet cover for him. He always goes on about that lovely heavy duvet we give him that keeps him so warm. Can you double them up so you're not landed with a high tog one you can only use in mid winter?

myusernamewastakenbyme · 06/02/2020 16:22

Im under a 13.5 and i use it all year round....i also have a spare duvet and thick blanket on top...i like to feel weighted down in bed and i always feel the cold.

Dowser · 06/02/2020 16:24

A 13
Hate being cold

Ruddle91 · 06/02/2020 16:25

10-15 tog. I use a 10 with an electric blanket 🙈.

MirandaWest · 06/02/2020 16:27

I’d love to come to your house - our duvet is at most 4.5 tog and may be less. Whenever we visit someone there is about a 13.5 tog one and DH and I swelter.

MirandaWest · 06/02/2020 16:28

We also just use the duvet cover in summer

MirandaWest · 06/02/2020 16:29

We also don’t have the heating on at night and sleep with the window open.

Chanel05 · 06/02/2020 16:30

I use a 13.5 all year round 😂 I'm a cold morsel!

tabulahrasa · 06/02/2020 16:35

13.5 all year and only because DP wouldn’t let me get a 15...

I didn’t even know 2.5 existed tbh

CurrynChips · 06/02/2020 16:43

Depends on how warm your house is and how new the duvet is. I sleep with a 13.5tog and blanket at home (old, draughty, poorly insulated house) but at my sibling's new build which retains the heart really well could quite happily do with a lot less.

But ultimately even given those factors individuals vary so for guests in general you're better off having multiple thin duvets & extra blankets that people can tailor to their own preference.

Sugarfreejelly · 06/02/2020 16:49

I use a 3 tog duvet all year round and I’m often too hot even with this (I recognise this isn’t typical!). I give guests a 4.5 diver but put a heavy throw on the bed that they can use or discard as they see fit.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 06/02/2020 16:49

Do all the 2.5 and 4 tog posters sleep in great fluffy onesies or next to a great hulking hot water bottle of a partner?

I have a 10.5tog for late autumn and winter to spring. I wear lightweight pjs and like the window open so I'd be really cold in anything lighter.

Sugarfreejelly · 06/02/2020 16:49
  • duvet - there are no divers on my bed
SpinneyHill · 06/02/2020 16:49

Sometimes Mumsnet blows my mind by exposing me to new worlds, this is one of those threads.

I'm off to google what is a Tog and how many duvets does everyone else have because I only have one
