Mine is the human brain. How a few chemicals can dictate so much about who we are and how we act/feel etc.

What other things do people get fascinated by?

@LittleSweet same! Netflix documentaries and wikipedia have a lot to answer for!

MerryGrinchmas1 · 31/01/2020 21:43

Cars.
I often sit and think when I am stuck in traffic, that it is so crazy that we use a big metal box with wheels to get from A to B 🚘

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 31/01/2020 21:45

@ChikiTIKI me too. I have several books written by people who were in cults and just can't comprehend the psychology of why anyone joins one.

Stompythedinosaur · 31/01/2020 21:47

I'm obsessed with the stories of people who have died climbing Mount Everest. Can't get enough!

LokiLocks · 31/01/2020 21:50

Bulgarian umbrellas used to assassinate and Georgi Markov.

Also the brain; psychology vs psychiatry and how genetics plays out in the middle. How the slightest change can alter everything.

picklerickkk · 31/01/2020 21:52

Cars I think they’re so fucking clever!

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 31/01/2020 21:54

Pylons, maps, trains.

If you want to wow your friends, pop “diesel multiple unit” or “tension tower” into the conversation.

Also nutrition. I’m obsessed with food and supplements.

FancyPants20 · 31/01/2020 21:54

@AnneLovesGilbert what's the vanity reason for having b12 injections?

MrsGolightyly · 31/01/2020 21:56

Dogs. My dog understands countless human words but I don’t speak dog. 🤔

Cordial11 · 31/01/2020 21:57

MLMS/pyramid schemes... love podcasts/documentaries. The missing crypto queen the latest I listened to.

I find it fascinating how they do manage to con so many people. Sad also.

mulkshake · 31/01/2020 21:59

Phones. Especially mobile phones. How can my voice travel through a device in my hand??

The internet- mind was blown when I learned it travels through cables on the sea bed.

VivaLeBeaver · 31/01/2020 22:00

Trains
Planes
Paternoster lifts

AIDS. Where did it come from? In 1985/6 I knew 17 people who died from it, but no-one previous to that. But then they discovered that a boy had died from it in the early 1970s. Where had it been all that time? Why did it suddenly blow up in the mid 1980s?

OhioOhioOhio · 31/01/2020 22:05

The Royal Family

wanderings · 31/01/2020 22:11

Teaching children. I volunteer in a primary school, and it’s fascinating watching them learn, and seeing their little faces light up when they understand something.

Badyboo · 31/01/2020 22:14

I always want to know what "hard working people/families/ work our bloody arse" people off do. Some people do, of course, but the 'hard working people' in any former workplace of mine 😬

AnneLovesGilbert · 31/01/2020 22:18

Making your nails stronger FancyPants20? Grin

Knittedfairies · 31/01/2020 22:26

Radio and television. All those words and images flying through the air; it makes me wonder if there's anything else out there yet to be discovered.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 31/01/2020 22:28

Illnesses and how they come up with cures. I even worked in a pharma company once and it hasn't quelled the thirst for knowledge, just widened it!

I have b12 injections (Health not vanity reason) and a pleasant side effect is incredibly hardy talons. I have a nightmare trying to keep them down.
Unfortunately b12 jabs haven't helped my nails at all. I did have an adverse effect to some medicine before which meant I lost two nails after damaging them. Those are my only two good nails. Even my tie nails are awful Sad

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 31/01/2020 22:29

*toe not tie
And the two lost nails grew back into the decent ones I meant to say 🤦‍♀️

SheepSocks · 31/01/2020 22:29

@Stompythedinosaur I lost a whole day last year learning about the history of people climbing Mount Everest. I was fascinated with the bodies that are left up there because it's too dangerous to bring them down. I then subjected my poor DH to a informative lecture about my days learnings.

I'm fascinated by the history of sweets and confectionery.

I love how things were invented to make life the way is today - I haven't worded that well, but; the invention of sewers, rail lines, housing estates.

The bigger the deadline I have the more I procrastinate by falling down internet rabbit holes.

milliefiori · 31/01/2020 22:30

dahlias. How does nature make those petals so neat and tight and perfect. They look like they were designed by a mathematician.

WorldEndingFire · 31/01/2020 22:31

Working class Conservative voters. Cognitive dissonance is intriguing.

SheepSocks · 31/01/2020 22:32

Oh and priest holes, they are fab!
