Odd things you’re fascinated by?

Mine is the human brain. How a few chemicals can dictate so much about who we are and how we act/feel etc.

What other things do people get fascinated by?

OP posts:

Numbers stations
Missing people
Abandoned Places

caringiscreepy · 01/02/2020 16:18

Whales - they're just so BIG and we know so relatively little about them. Was weirdly obsessed when I was pregnant Blush fascinating

DadDadDad · 01/02/2020 16:22

@jenthelibrarian - did you know that the devilish palindrome of

1000000000000066600000000000001

is a prime.

Tornados, hurricanes, and whirlpools 🌪 I suppose it’s to do with the draw of the sublime.

Second priest holes!

TheHouseWithTheBambooDoor · 01/02/2020 16:25

@ManonBlackbeak I also had a phase of being fascinated by ghost towns. There’s surprisingly lots of them.

Serial killers, nature vs nurture, pylons, cargo ships and docks, how the logistics of companies as big as amazon work and how someone actually went from being one individual in a garage selling a few bits to being a company like that, if dogs see things the same way as we do through their eyesight, social conventions, things like dna, cells, surgery and medical discoveries, how electricity is made, how telephones work, how armies and battle plans are organised, what organisations like mi5 really do and how much they can really spy on people

LaReinedOrange · 01/02/2020 16:30

Is this odd?

I'm fascinating by how different snake venoms take effect.

LaReinedOrange · 01/02/2020 16:33

Tornados, hurricanes, and whirlpools

I love watching videos from tornado valley. Breathtaking, yet eerie watching them start to form. Calm beginnings that eventually turn violent.

To all those who like abandoned places, there is a TV series on Watch called Abandoned Engineering. I love it.
Abandoned railways was good too.

After watching another Only Fools ane Horses episode for the millionth time, why are they still so funny?!

Honestly, it takes a lot to make me laugh but it must take so much talent to write the one-liners and for the cast to perform them so perfectly that they are funny over and over again! Even though I know what they are going to say, I still laugh!

Sad I know

ArbitraryNameChange · 01/02/2020 19:06

A part of Birmingham Poly had Paternoster lifts, I had no idea they were called that. They were terrifying!

PhilCornwall1 · 01/02/2020 20:11

@BearSoFair he is right as far as I'm concerned. Drums and Bass are the main thing I listen to, to get a good feel. 👍👍

Here's a random fact. The absolute funniest scene in the bar when Del Boy leans on the non-existent bar and falls over (classic!!!). There is a continuity error. He goes over with a full glass of wine and then stands up with a full glass. Only reason I know is because he mentioned it during an interview on TV.

Still one of the funniest things I have ever seen on TV!! 😀😀

BestIsWest · 01/02/2020 20:58

I remember paternoster lifts in Birmingham uni too. Also terryifying.

SpeedofaSloth · 01/02/2020 21:00

Brutalist architecture.

Friendships. How do a group of separate people become reliant on one another?

Being popular/unpopular. Why is one person more ‘liked’ than another?

crestedrobin · 01/02/2020 22:06

The universe, that there are as many stars as grains of sand. It seems impossible.

crestedrobin · 01/02/2020 22:18

That we can make babies, where does the consciousness come from and when.

ALongHardWinter · 02/02/2020 01:52

A source of fascination to me is how massive buildings were built 100's of years ago. Buildings like the Tower of London and St. Paul''s Cathedral. How did they manage it without electricity or any heavy lifting gear?

BestIsWest · 02/02/2020 07:31

I’ve pondered this recently too - they did have treadmill cranes and pulley systems

High brow: I could read about the political systems and economic structures of civilizations all day. Human social systems are fascinating.
Lower brow: I'm kinda obsessed with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. I think they are commercial geniuses and wildly under-estimated.

They look terrifying to me too. One question with them, what happens if you don't get off? I guess you just go around and around.
