Bore da!
Sut wyt ti heddiw?

Dwi'n dysgu Cymraeg.
I'm very bad, to be fair. Grew up in S.Wales before Welsh was brought back.

A fyddai unrhyw un yn hoffi ymuno â mi?

(I'm English and have been trying to learn Welsh, so my Welsh is very poor.)

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 28/01/2020 13:09

(Really need to change my keyboard. Autocorrect is going wild)

Helo picl ddraig! Dim ond popio allan o chwilfrydedd.

Cymaint yn sâl, gobeithio y byddwch chi'n teimlo'n well yn fuan i gyd.

Gobeithiaf hefyd fod yr edau hon wedi'i diheintio. Nid wyf am ei ddal!

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 28/01/2020 13:34

I wish I could join in. Welsh born and bred but not a welsh speaker. Maybe it’s never too late to learn?!

LANGsteinsArousedCLEGagesHCB · 28/01/2020 13:38

I should confess, I am not Welsh, nor do I speak it. I just used Google translate. Blush

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 28/01/2020 13:44

Helo Leek!

I'm using google translate, but trying to fathom it out on my own first. And I'll be back on Duolingo now I've got some motivation.

iechyd Da! Sut mae?

I’m afraid that and diolch are about all I know but it does seem to go down quite well when I’m in Wales - my dc’s absolute favourite phrase is “Tatum bob” - they love ordering it in our favourite welsh cafe!

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 28/01/2020 13:46

Wenglish. Or Engwelsh.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 28/01/2020 13:48

Mae Duolingo yn dda iawn!

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 28/01/2020 13:49

Da iawn diolch, Lana! Google doesn't know what Tatum Bob is!

Prynhawn da! Es i i ysgol yng nghanolbarth Cymru, lle dysgais Gymraeg. Dwi'n byw yn Llundain nawr, a mae fy Gymraeg yn ofnadwy!

AudaCityLimits · 28/01/2020 14:51

Saysomethinginwelsh.com is amazing for learning Welsh, take a look. I'm lucky- we spoke Cymraeg at home, as I do now with my own DC.
Os oes rhywun eisiau cymorth ar yr edefyn yma, croeso i chi ofyn i mi!

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 28/01/2020 14:57

Helo Wabbit!
Croeso!

I understood a lot of what you said! The google voice for Welsh is shocking, though.

OP posts:
picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 28/01/2020 15:01

Diolch yn fawr iawn, Auda!

That's great. Can you explain 'Welsh/Wales/Cwmru/Gwmraeg' please? I see Variations with different endings, or starting with C or G. Which is what?

OP posts:
AudaCityLimits · 28/01/2020 15:14

Well pickles, some words mutate in Welsh, which means the first letter can change depending on what comes before it. It sounds complicated and it can be- but do NOT worry about mutations. We often ignore them when speaking Welsh.

So Cymraeg and Gymraeg both mean Welsh.
Cymru and Gymry means Wales.

confusedandemployed · 28/01/2020 15:18

P'nawn da pawb, hoffwn ymuno efo'r sgwrs os gwelwch yn dda? Ail iaith yw'r Gymraeg i mi, ond cefais addysg Gymraeg felly rwy'n rhygl ac yn dal i ddefnyddio Cymraeg yn fy swydd.

AnneKipanki · 28/01/2020 15:21

Prynhawn !
RYDYCH CHI'N TWYLLO LANGsteins ! Ni fyddech yn fy nal yn gwneud hynny. Grin

Gruffado · 28/01/2020 15:21
