My baby son was admitted to hospital last night with retraction

His sats, heart rate and overall self are fine, however he seems to be working hard to breathe and is now on CPAP after a night on optiflow

Any success stories as I’m so anxious and worked up.

And talking of improvement....when you're feeling up to it, OP, have a read back through your threads and see how far you have come in the space of a couple of weeks, from someone who couldn't bond with her baby..... Well done you - see? You're a mum!

clairindespair · 27/01/2020 15:58

He’s extubated and maybe on normal oxygen or optiflow, he’s kicking off and waving everywhere so I know he’s back. I’m so so happy. Thank you everyone xxxxxx

Fantastic turn around! Will you be going back to your own hospital soon?

clairindespair · 27/01/2020 16:14

I think so I’m not sure yet it’s small steps as he’s still sucking in abit when he breaths but apparently that’s normal with rsv

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 28/01/2020 05:21

Great update!

clairindespair · 28/01/2020 17:27

Hi everyone we were thrown out of PICU today and sent back to our local hospital just so he can have his feeds sorted :) x

PrayingandHoping · 28/01/2020 18:52

Great news! You'll be home in no time!

Is he off all breathing support now? Has he started bottle feeds?

clairindespair · 28/01/2020 18:58

He’s on 0.2 low flow and we’re trying his bottle tonight, his throats sorr

Excellent news, I've been thinking of you from day one, you and your DS will soon be home, with an amazing future ahead of you Thanks

PrayingandHoping · 28/01/2020 19:24

I know I told u about the issues with L throat afterwards but it is rare don't worry. A sore throat is totally normal

Hope bottle feeds go well!

clairindespair · 28/01/2020 19:24

My anxiety is awful with it now but thankfully Tameside hospital have been amazing and are getting me lots of support! He still had recession and I’m worried but they said they don’t think he needs cpap or optiflow

OP posts:
PrayingandHoping · 28/01/2020 19:45

L had airvo for a couple of days after she came out of picu. That was almost it certainly due to her damaged throat. As soon as that healed she came off it and oxygen all at once.

You're nearly there!

clairindespair · 28/01/2020 20:05

They may give him optiflow as he still has some recession but not as much, I’m just worried about ending up back in PICU

OP posts:
PrayingandHoping · 28/01/2020 20:40

I remember that feeling. But if they moved you and you're back on the ward I really doubt they think that would happen. The stats for retubing are 1 in 10 I was told and I saw a baby in picu having that happened but it happened very soon after extubation. Your LO has been off the ventilator long enough now I'm sure he's doing really well.

sleepyinsussex · 29/01/2020 00:36

Wonderful to hear your little one is improving so well.

How are you doing Clair? Have you managed to get some sleep or are you as tired as ever? Are you eating OK?

clairindespair · 29/01/2020 00:36

I’m okay, very stressed however I’m doing okay x
