My baby son was admitted to hospital last night with retraction

His sats, heart rate and overall self are fine, however he seems to be working hard to breathe and is now on CPAP after a night on optiflow

Any success stories as I’m so anxious and worked up.

He is off oxygen and maintaining sats, we are home Monday!
He has to have a discharge meeting with social services because of my depression and financial fuckin crisis so I’m looking forward to that....NOT.

How do the hospital know about your financial situation? Sorry if I have missed something.

So pleased he is on the mend Flowers

Do you have a home to go back to?

So glad he's doing so well! Why do u have to wait to Monday if he's off all support and ok?

If u ever need to chat again, feel free to pm whenever u like

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 02/02/2020 13:03

That's great he's well enough to be discharged. I would see this as a positive, they will be there to help

clairindespair · 03/02/2020 00:39

Hi everyone! Little sausage is hopefully being discharged in the morning after our meeting

He’s back to his usual self and you’d never have thought he’d been poorly! He liked his dummy when he was unwell but now he’s better he’s threw 4 out already and has been smiling and babbling in his cot all day. Can’t wait to get him home and just snuggle all day

BecauseReasons · 03/02/2020 05:47

Amazing, so good to hear! Enjoy the snuggles x

deareloise · 03/02/2020 07:05

Gosh, he’s clever! Babbling and throwing? Very advanced. Good luck today Smile

BahHumPug · 03/02/2020 11:20

A 5 week old who can babble and throw right, and after a PICU stay? Think you might have a future genius on your hands! Good luck with the social services meeting.

BahHumPug · 03/02/2020 11:20

Don't know where that random 'right' came from

PrayingandHoping · 03/02/2020 11:50

I sure she meant spat it out..., like they do when they are that age with a dummy! They can shoot quite far when they do that even at that age!

My 8 weeks old was trying to chat the evening she came out of picu even with a damaged throat from the tube. They bounce back very fast.

Hoping your next update Claire is that you're home

Schuyler · 03/02/2020 13:50

Sounds like they’re miracle workers. 🙌 all hail the NHS, well most of the time. 🙂

sleepyinsussex · 05/02/2020 00:25

How are you doing Clair? Did your meeting go OK? I hope so x

clairindespair · 06/02/2020 03:57

Me and sausage are now home with lots of support, he’s still coughy and is eating a lot and still has mild recession.

My health anxiety is so awful after all of this but I have to be confident in the doctors! social worker knew I had health anxiety then proceeded to tell me that the reason he was intubated was that they thought he was going to stop breathing and she’s just absolutely set me off and made me worse, keep checking him

Hi,
I can completely understand you still being so worried about him - I think it would be normal even if you didn't have health anxiety (if that's at all reassuring?!) You've both been through a very tough time, your son physically and you mentally/emotionally. That will hit you at your weakest - your health anxiety. That of course then spirals. Telling you about the intubation is just facts and there's no other way round it - unfortunately that adds to the health anxiety too. BUT he wouldn't have been discharged if they didn't think he was ready, he's eating well which is a great sign of (and for) continuing improvement - and he's at home, away from other possible hospital germs with his most favourite, most important person in the world - you! Hang on to that for now.

Might it be useful for you to talk to someone after this episode? As I say it's very normal I'm sure but it is a trauma to you to go through. Being proactive now might prevent it worsening. Maybe you already have a MH contact? Or could pop to GP.

DottyGiraffe · 06/02/2020 07:47

Oops posted too soon!

Lots of love and keep doing what you're doing with your son

Hi.
Our LO has just turned one year and we've had four admissions since the end of October. Last one was the worst, thermavape and IV fluids, lead to Pneumonia.
It's just awful. Everytime LO get s a shuffle or a cough, we can pretty much predict what day we'll be back in hospital.

Any success stories about repeated admissions would be so helpful. Also our hospital are reluctant to give steroids, so how have parents pushed for this?

PennyRoyal · 23/02/2020 14:32
