Help- cleaner drank my gin!

Hi all,
I’m new to mumsnet, but would really love some advice!

I’ve just signed up to a cleaning company and had my first clean, which I was thrilled about.
Then I noticed that half of my bottle of pink drink has gone!
I only got the bottle given to me as a gift last week from my sister in law.
My Dh doesn’t drink and I have my two ds in the house.
It was the cleaner definitely!
The company have been awful at getting back to me and sent me a poor email saying she said she didn’t drink it Hmm and was too early in the morning.

I feel really gutted and not sure how to move forward or get some sort of justice!!

Haha sorry this is hilarious! First world problems or what! Coming from w woman and go has a cleaner too
Honestly stop being so naive and speak to your 13 year old! Come on!!!!

SoupDragon · 21/01/2020 11:30

The odd thing is that the bottle was apparently unopened. Who would open a new bottle to steal alcohol? An open bottle, yes, but an unopened one shows no thought process whatsoever.

Likefootball · 21/01/2020 11:33

She would have to be superwoman to do a great job and then travel home/to her next job on half a bottle of gin.

Katinski · 21/01/2020 11:51

Sorry, what have I missed? OP have you interrogated your older son? Actually stood in front of him, stern face on, and bloody insisted he tell you the truth, yea or nay?
To your cleaner - you write that she did a good job and that you were "thrilled" with her work.
If it turned out that it actually was her, keep buying the gin Grin

bemusedmoose · 21/01/2020 13:07

Definitely the 13 year old! I should know because that was me when I was 13!

BohoBunney · 21/01/2020 13:24

The naivety of OP is so cute. Wait until your son gets a bit older and he starts collecting 'oregano' .. you'll be in for a wild ride.

momtoboys · 21/01/2020 13:30

I used to work for a cable TV distributor. Moms would call to dispute charges of X rated movies "someone" had ordered. Swear up and down it wasn't she or her partner and could not have been the kids, they were in school. Inevitably the parent would go back and check the calendar and realize it was a holiday from school and it absolutely was the kid.

13 year old for sure!

Isthisreallylife · 21/01/2020 13:46

I wonder what day of the week did the gin go missing OP? Around here the teens swipe whatever booze is available from the parents liquor stock. Then they all meet up on a Friday night in a local park where they pass round bottles of 2L cider and drink it. Then they fill the empty 2L bottles up with whatever alcohol they’ve taken that week, mix it up, pass it round, get sh1t faced! Can be groups of up to 200!!!
I think it’s the 13 ur old!

MaisWeee · 21/01/2020 14:36

I'm not sure what sort of unsupervised delinquents you all have, but at thirteen, I certainly wasn't heading to parks with a water bottle full of gin to share with my mates.
Of course it was the cleaner. She hardly downed the bottle there and then!

MaisWeee · 21/01/2020 14:38

I don't know where you are @Isthisreallylife where 13 year olds gather in their hundreds to down alcohol. Perhaps you should supervise your child.

kjhkj · 21/01/2020 14:42

maisweee Ah bless

Hope you're happy in your perfect little world. Meanwhile in the real world teenagers do silly things and experiment.

Hezzles · 21/01/2020 14:43

Could it have been knocked over perhaps and spilled rather than drank?

paranoiamumma · 21/01/2020 14:56

I agree it's likely to be your ds , me and my mate use to do it when we were younger , we decanted loads of spirits into a litre bottle and then topped the vodka etc up With water , god weren't we sick but his DPs never discovered it . Confused

NarwhalsNarwhals · 21/01/2020 15:25

@MaisWeee My 15 year old doesn't approve of alcohol (hes very vocal about it) he and his mates spend their time in DS's room playing D&D and Magic and such geek stuff, even they can tell me the drinking spots in town and about the kid who puked on the school bus having downed the shit mix (plastic bottle of whatever booze they could find) rather than criticising other people's parenting you need to wonder why you don't know about these things.

impossible · 21/01/2020 15:38

Glad you managed to change your cleaner without making accusations. If such a thing happens again you would be better setting up a stibng instead of discussing with ds. Make sure you know what alcohol is in the house when the cleaner arrives and then look immediately after.

Personally, I would assume it was one of your sons - the little taking it for a game (not to drink) and the older one to decant and perhaps share with friends. I'm not suggesting he would have drunk it all, jus that he might have decanted it so he could take to his friends.

impossible · 21/01/2020 15:38

... setting up a STING..

GabsAlot · 21/01/2020 15:40

She did make accusations though impossible she told their employer she believes they stole her gin

messolini9 · 21/01/2020 15:48

Glad you managed to change your cleaner without making accusations
That would have been a much more sensible option @impossible, but unfortunately for the cleaner, an accusation was made, despite no evidence, & the cleaner's job & reputation are compromised even if she is wholly innocent.

impossible · 21/01/2020 15:51

Oops - I hadn't realised that (scanned through 21 pages..)

That's pretty outrageous!

Noshowlomo · 21/01/2020 15:52

I was sipping my dads whiskey at 13 when I thought he wouldn't notice... he did notice :(

Lincolnfield · 21/01/2020 16:00

My less than creative sons, when our booze kept disappearing swore blind that spirits evaporate........😂😂

mbosnz · 21/01/2020 16:04

LOL, my kids thus far don't show much inclination for alcohol (except, funnily enough, the odd pink gin), but at 13, I can remember my friend and I downing half a bottle of whisky when Mum and Dad went out for the night. Oh Gods, the hangover the next day. . . and then to be confronted with a glass of wine at lunch. I think they might have figured it out.

cherish123 · 21/01/2020 18:11

I don't think it's the cleaner. Could it be 13 yr old and a few friends? If DS13 had drunk half a bottle on his own you would know all about it.

seanchai · 21/01/2020 18:26

My cleaner used to do the same, take half my washing powder and my alcohol, put them into her own containers.

She also stole jewellery from me.

seanchai · 21/01/2020 18:28

She was hired through a reputable company as well.

Really upset me at the time. I thought I was imagining it at first, until I started drawing lines on things and they would definitely go down after she had been.

I don't know why people are saying it isn't the cleaner

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but it's not above the realm of possibility.
