I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

More than enough coat hangers
A big box of biros
A waste paper bin in every room
Throwing out all the chipped mugs and plates and buying more as needed
Plastic cereal containers
Hooks everywhere stuff otherwise gets draped
A little plastic rack to hang toothbrushes up
New boxes of calpol, paracetamol, cold and flu, etc ready to go when illness hits
A good travel mug that doesn’t leak

A good travel mug that doesn't leak is exactly what I need. Any recs?

Great list, Mike.

Coincidentally, I've just had a big sort of all the plates, glasses etc. It really has made a difference.

I have this one: CamelBak Forge Vacuum 16oz Bronze www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DKK1OME/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pWbjEbVYGPMN9?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 not cheap but indestructible, definitely doesn’t leak and keeps contents hot for hours.

I also have a Thermos food flask which is amazing - I take soup or leftovers to work for lunch and being able to tuck in straight away without faffing about going to the staffroom and microwaving etc is amazing and such a time saver.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/01/2020 09:13

I’ve just ordered a second freezer for the utility room. I need to remove the cupboard to fit it in but it will stop trips for bread etc.

I’m looking at a second frying pan. Will buy next week.

For coffee I make a batch in the Moka pot & pour it into a sports bottle then keep it in the fridge. In the mornings I heat it in the microwave. I could do with a bean to cup but they are still silly money.

I have a chilly or chilli water bottle in a lovely colour it keeps drinking water lovely and cool and I take it to work and in the car with me.
I buy stamps in bulk.
Always carry paracetamols with me.
I have 2 Clarins chubby sticks in a neutral shade keep one in my day hand bag and one in my make up bag in the bathroom. As I could never find one previously.
I stopped up on two packs of M&S black comfy knickers so I never run out.

CharlotteMD · 19/01/2020 09:24

A box of both AAA and AA batteries
Inventory of exactly what you have in the freezer

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2020 09:25

I've got two Chillys bottles. They are so good.

Will investigate Camelbak. Have been looking at the food flasks and am definitely going to get one. I'm bored of sarnies and the microwave at work is horrible.

I keep a Butts Bees lipbalm and a Mac mini lipstick in every handbag.

My £3 travel mug from Waitrose doesn't leak and has lasted years now. I've been through a few bamboo fancy ones before then which always broken and or leaked. The Waitrose one is good

Fizzypoo · 19/01/2020 09:34

I like this thread idea!

I don't have any tips apart from every sunday I put together a chicken tray bake ready to be cooked on Monday. It makes Mondays feel organised. I fall down the rest of the week Grin

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 19/01/2020 09:38

Contigo coffee mugs, love mine! What I like most is that it has a lock so I can throw it in my bag and not a single drop leaks out. I made coffee in the morning before work and it was still hot at lunch.

GreenLeafTurnip · 19/01/2020 09:42

Lots and lots and lots of plastic containers. Got mine cheap from Tesco and we have a dedicated big deep drawer for them in the kitchen. All different sizes as well great at the moment with a weaning baby but will definitely be useful in the future as well!

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/01/2020 09:58

eBay sell the takeaway plastic food containers. I think 30 costs about £8.

They stack in the freezer nicely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2020 10:02

Also it's dp's birthday soon. Any recs for small things to improve his life too? I'm probably going to get him a travel mug.

I find it useful to keep certain stuff in the car
Lemsip, paracetamol, tissues, lip balm, spare lipstick, a small tub of the herbal tea bags I like, a trolley token, phone charger
In boot a kagoule, sunscreen and a toilet roll

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2020 10:31

Think I'll get a couple of Contigo mugs. Thanks.

Yes, contigo and camelbak are both brilliant.

Geraniumblue · 19/01/2020 10:38

Enough comfortable bras and black socks for the working week. A small private stash of very dark chocolate. Buying loo rolls, washing powder and cat food in bulk so I never have to worry about running out. A small stash of cash in the house.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 19/01/2020 10:41

An emergency power pack for your phone. I have a small purse containing a power bank and a cable that I always throw into whatever bag I’m taking.

Womenwotlunch · 19/01/2020 10:43

Cut more spare keys
A travel kettle/iron -when I am working or holidaying abroad
A second freezer
An emergency medical box with headache
tablets, thrush cream, cold and flu sachets , antibacterial cream/ wipes etc
In car boot- water, blanket, torch ,
A small vanity bag with spare underwear, sanitary products and a painkiller
In car- phone charger, spare pair of glasses
Miniature versions of toiletries when travelling abroad for a few days

Mner2000 · 19/01/2020 10:45

I would recommend a stove top moka for your coffee. Awesome.

FromTheAllotment · 19/01/2020 11:00

Hairbrush, toothbrush, perfume, nail file, compact and lip balm in the cloakroom by the front door, so that I can easily freshen up before I go out.

A stack of tiny square wipes from Poundland that I can use on the DC like little flannels after a meal, so they don’t ruin my nice napkins or bankrupt me in wet wipes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2020 11:02

Stove top no good for the bedroom though!
