I'm thinking about things that might improve my life

I'm wondering about small purchases that might improve my life. So far I'm thinking:
A couple more phone chargers - one to keep downstairs and one for work

A small, non-pod coffee machine for the bedroom. Any recs?

A plain black cashmere scarf, so I don't need to have to match to cost and/or outfit!

What small things improve your life and might improve mine too?!

I love this thread!!

A sturdy lunch bag and some sistema containers for breakfast on the go / soup at work. Getting organised about weekday breakfast and lunches has helped.

PlushPlush · 19/01/2020 18:15

A waste paper bin in every room

Oh no, that just means more bins to empty!

PlushPlush · 19/01/2020 18:16

Get yourself an hitachi magic wand! Wink

Thought of a couple more:
a nice fountain pen plus ink - downstairs, upstairs and at work

good A4 sized notebooks - so much nicer than scrabbling around in tiny ones

Book of first class stamps, pens and assortment of birthday cards in the drawer

Long charging cables. I have a 2m and 3m and they're brilliant. No more hanging off the side of the bed to use my phone!

Humidifier for the bedroom. I love it and it's reduced the headaches I get.

Speaker for the shower. Always cheers me up!

Not a thing but an app called Tide. It has sleep sounds, records the quality of your sleep and has an intelligent alarm that wakes you in from a light sleep. Been using it for a week and I love it.

A charger in every room

I’ve got a notebook that I make lists in for trips, this helps me to pack but I also update it after the trip with anything I was missing or took and shouldn’t have bothered with.

As I keep the lists I can use them again to compile future packing lists. This has saved lots of time and hassle especially where we go self catering.

White board on fridge column for each person and one for tea for each day. Updated on a Sunday for week so all know what is happening has helped me loads keep on top of life.
Extra reading glasses dotted around house.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/01/2020 18:51

A big (huge) bath towel to keep in the car (better get two for when one is in the wash). Can be used to dry windscreen/dog/hair or used as an emergency cover up, to sit on if seat gets wet, as a picnic blanket, baby change mat, sunshield, to stop windscreen freezing, picked up by all corners they make useful bags.

I learned a lot from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Fizzypoo · 19/01/2020 19:06

@fedup21 I sometimes do chicken thighs, butternut squash, peppers, onions, tomatoes, ton of garlic and oregano. Other times I do chicken thighs, new potatoes, lemon and garlic.

Theres a lovely sausage recipe on MN somewhere with sausages, onions, peppers ect on a tray but has creme fresh mixed in when cooked.

Anything that can go on a tray that I can use I use! You also aren't slaving away on a Sunday cooking for Monday, it's a bung in a tray, cover and leave in the fridge job.

Insurance approved key safe, in case I lose mine or I need someone to access my house e.g. childcare emergency

Small first aid kit in car with calpol sachets, paracetamol, antihistamines and migraleve. As well as san pro.

Drinks in car. Handy in case of breakdown or thirsty toddler

Spare change of clothes for me and toddler in car

Magnetic white board on freezer with updated list of contents

DS outfits go in wardrobe as complete outfit, trousers, t shirt and jumper on one hanger so not trying to match stuff on the go

tinylittlehat · 19/01/2020 19:07

Nice box with a lid on the hallway for things that I don't need in my bag everyday but often remember I need to take with me on my way out the door - phone power pack and cable, extra tampons, headphones, poo bags in case I'm looking after my mum's dog!

Second bin in the bathroom for recycling.

Wellies always live in a bag in the boot of the car - then they are there when needed at home and also when a trip to the pub/to visit friends involved unexpected muddy walks.

tinylittlehat · 19/01/2020 19:08

Oh, and always keep a book or magazine in the car, so I don't get bored if I break down!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 19/01/2020 19:09

@zaphods that is genius, towel going in car tomorrow

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/01/2020 19:09

I have an extra pair of sunglasses. I kept one pair in the car for driving and one on the hall drawer.

A few people have mentioned shopping lists and meal plans. I used the "reminders" section on my iPhone which I share with DH.

Like a few others, I keep a lip balm, a lipstick and tissues on my handbags.

A few coins in the car for trolleys/parking come in handy too Smile

willowmelangell · 19/01/2020 19:19

Two packs of the same colour/style socks. No mismatched socks to match up.

PlushPlush · 19/01/2020 19:26

Two packs of the same colour/style socks. No mismatched socks to match up.

I literally threw out all of my socks and bought 40 plain black pairs from primark!
So much easier!

PlushPlush · 19/01/2020 19:27

If you travel a lot then an extra large toiletry bag that hangs up anywhere is soooo useful

NotPennysBoat · 19/01/2020 20:40

Every time I go into the post office (2-3 times a month), I get a £20 bag of £1 coins. Put a few in the car for parking/trolley and the rest in a jar in the hallway for charity/school/misc emergencies!

HerkyBaby · 19/01/2020 20:54

A roll of dustbin liners. Last year I filled over 30 with junk and rubbish cluttering up my life. Transformational.

IloveJudgeJudy · 19/01/2020 22:05

Hi, OP. I don't have this exact coffee machine, but I have one very like it, made by Breville. It makes two cups of coffee and is so easy to clean. The filter is rinseable, so no extra charge for papers, etc. The price is cheap atm.

A lanyard with a detachable clip on the end.
Looped around my handbag strap, I can clip my keys onto it, throw them into my bag and then fish them out without scrabbling.

It saves only seconds, I know, but a lot of frustration!

Zaphodsotherhead · 20/01/2020 10:02

I keep loose change and the odd fiver in my car. If I've forgotten my bank card at least I can get a loaf of bread and some milk, or pay to park in one of those antiquated car parks that only takes change.

Miss1973HulaHoopChampion · 20/01/2020 10:26

I think as thinking it would be useful to get a notification if temperatures dipped below zero so I know I need to leave extra time to de-ice the car - however I can't find an app that does that! Would save me that last minute panic! I can't see the car from the window so don't know it needs de-icing TIL I get there!
