Which Star Trek ship would you like to serve on?

I love Star Trek and am looking forward to the new series Star Trek Picard on Amazon next week.

I’ve been thinking about which ship I would like to serve on. Tbh it is easy, Voyager!

I’m sure I’m not the only Trek fan (I’m not a Trekkie) here. Let’s see which is the most popular vessel.

Any bloody Cardassians out there can bugger off now.

I live near Blackpool and never went to the star trek exhibition.l as I heard it was rubbish.

However I was brought up a Trekkie. My parents have a video somewhere of them, DSis and I recreating TOS at Universal Orlando. My dad was the captain (of course), my mum the Vulcan first officer (with the ears), and DSis and I were at the helm. It's so cheesy. We all got costumes and my parents had a script to follow on the screen in front of them. Me and my DSis were too young to have lines.

I liked the 1950's / 60's rat pack style singer hologram, on DS9 at least until they overused him.
It introduced me to the song "it's only a paper moon".

I think Ezri was a fantastic idea on paper. The contrast between strong, confident Jadzia and a naïve, self conscious ensign who had had no training should have been fabulous. All the potential to see the effect joining could have on a person... I was really excited when I read in the fan magazine that that was what they were going to do! Then Nicole de Boer just wasn't a strong enough actress to pull it off and the whole thing was a disaster...

I'm straight but I think I'd give my DH up for 7. Wow. I can't be that straight? Blush

I screamed at the end of Best of Both Worlds too.

I couldn't work out how they'd bring my Captain back from that.

I'm making my through DS9 atm. It's the one series I haven't watched from start to finish.

I was in a lift with Nichelle Nichols once (at a convention). I've met Patrick Stewart. Been in the same room as Michael Dorn! A few others. When I was young I used to go to conventions. They were much cheaper then. I couldn't afford it now.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/01/2020 22:21

I think Ezri might be the only one who annoys me as much as Kes.

Then in close 3rd is Jake Sisko. What was the point of him?

Booberella9 · 18/01/2020 22:27

Liberating to see I'm not the only one attracted to ST characters Blush

At the moment I would definitely do Karl Urban as McCoy. Anxieties and all. My job would have to be something boring and non dangerous though..

MrsFionaCharming · 18/01/2020 23:16

I loved Ezri! I was never a massive fan of Jadzia, she was just too perfect and I didn’t like the Klingon fan-girl thing she had going on. Plus Nicole de Boer is one of the sweetest people I’ve met at a convention.

I also won’t hear a word against Kira. When I go to live on DS9, I intend to marry her.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/01/2020 23:24

Enterprise D for me, as long as Spock can take Data's place.

Spock should take Riker's place as first officer, surely? And I'd swap in Urban McCoy for Crusher, added bonus no Wes. And add Jadzia Dax as Science Officer.
And find some way of keeping bloody Q off the ship.

magoria · 19/01/2020 09:49

I missed Q by about an hour for a book signing in Portsmouth of all places. Would have loved to have mage it.

magoria · 19/01/2020 09:49

*made it

banivani · 19/01/2020 09:59

I haven’t been able to get into Discovery at all! Something about the tempo of it, and the technobabble is very unconvincing. I got very bored with Enterprise too, but the set design was good. I don’t like it when they don’t follow the internal ST rules though and break with historical “facts” and the like. Grin I like my secondary universes to make sense!

If the OP admits DS9 then so do I, but I watched the whole series not that long ago and I reflected at the time that living on DS9 would throw me into a deep depression. So dark and oppressive.

If the premise is that I’m a Star Trek officer then I agree that Picard’s ship is the best! But if I’m myself and just time travelling I’d probably be happier on Voyager. Logic!

I really liked the Tuvix episode and I thought the look on Janeway’s face when leaving the room was very moving. I think she nailed it. It annoyed me though that this was never referenced again, after Kes asking to murder Tuvix so she can have Neelix back they later broke up - with no drama at all and no reference to Tuvix ever made. Annoying!

7Worfs · 19/01/2020 10:23

Yes, the Kes and Neelix break-up was really rushed, and almost as half-baked as Seven and Chakotay’s “relationship”.

Kate Mulgrew had both incredible AND cringeworthy performances throughout the series, but still my favourite captain.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 19/01/2020 11:41

Kes and Neelix was just SO inappropriate! She was a CHILD. He groomed, abused, abducted, and controlled her. Vile, awful man.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/01/2020 12:00

I agree, although I think that's the point of why they filmed it the way they did. Even the crew quarters and bridge were dark in comparison to the lovely bright but beige Enterprise. (Voyager had a slightly blue/grey tinge but still bright) It wasn't built by humans/the federation. It was a cheaply made, rustly old tin can with poor lighting. Grin

I've never actually watched the Enterprise series. Just couldn't get onto it.

TheFaerieQueene · 19/01/2020 12:06

Kes was bloody annoying. I dislike her even more in the episode where she was jumping in time. I think she should go out the airlock with Neelix.
The doctor on Voyager though was brilliant.

The Keys / Neelix relationship thing is really interesting, I think. Kes is an adult (though a younger one) in terms of her species' lifespan. Neelix is a not particularly aged adult in his. But if you have cross species relationships, with differing lifespans, is that ok? After all, if they'd stayed together and she'd stayed on Voyager, she would have become the 'older' one in the relationship in terms of stage in lifespan.

Vulcans live about 250 years don't they? Harry must seem like a toddler to Tuvok, but they treat each other as adults.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 19/01/2020 12:22

Keys? Bloody auto correct!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/01/2020 12:44

Remember, DS9 was a Cardassian built space station. It was knackered and the Cardassians fucked it up some more for good measure before they left.

Also, Cardassians prefer dark spaces.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/01/2020 12:50

The Ocampas. How are they not facing extinction since each female only births 1 child? Surely that means a dwindling population?

YourOpinionIsNoted · 19/01/2020 12:55

Unless more females are born than males and the males mate with multiple females?

Tinselette1940 · 19/01/2020 12:57

I'd forgotten that DS9 was originally Cardassian. Mind you I live in Northern Scotland so I'm used to the dark in winter.

banivani · 19/01/2020 13:21

I know DS9 was cardassian and great for cardassians but I am not one and struggle with the Swedish winters I live in as it is. Ds9 must be an awful place to live!

Speaking of captains who annoy you, Sisko’s mannerisms irritated me a lot in the beginning. But he calmed down a bit.

Janeway being a woman captain meant a lot to me so I have a soft spot for her. I’ve been putting voyager on at work to keep me focussed on boring tasks and am blown away at how terrible a lot of the storylines are. Such a waste of promise. The doctor - great storyline. B’Elanna - would love to be pals. 7of9 - always felt they should have done a Borg storyline where people voluntarily want to join them and they change their MO.

PureAlchemy · 19/01/2020 13:28

The thing where female Ocampas can only giet pregnant once would only work if multiple births were usual.

Otherwise, even if there were hardly any male births, the population would inevitably dwindle to nothing over time, even if every female born grew to adulthood, was fertile and had her one baby.

So I reckon it must be normal for Ocampa pregnancies to result in twins or triplets at least. Possibly more.

TheFaerieQueene · 19/01/2020 13:36

Ocampa give birth through their back which seems a bit odd. I imagine their spine must be different to most other humanoid species.

OP posts:
TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/01/2020 13:38

It must be a case of multiples, otherwise the Ocampa would have started to die out. Although, Kes seemed sure of having just one child, but might be because the father wouldnt have been Ocampa too.
