Who else would really appreciate a polite discussion of gender issues and the concerns of women at the jess Philips webchat on Monday?

I posted on the webchat thread:
Since the questions have already been asked I am not allowed to repeat similar but I want on record that self ID, its potential abuse, protection of vulnerable young people from those who promote transition which can sometimes include puberty blockers, the protection of natal women's rights and the importance of teaching biological facts in schools are big concerns to me.

MNHQ have said they don't want any more comments or questions about gender issues on the Web chat thread which I can understand. However what I do want to make clear is the number of people who may share some or all of my concerns. Otherwise any questions about gender issues are of an equal weight to all others and in fact others, which can be repeated in a different form, may seem to gain more weight.

Did anyone else notice the poster (maybe posters) who said Oh Jess, don't worry about those horrible GC women, we are not all like that....

Or words to that effect? I sometimes (well, quite often) despair at the lack of intellectual rigour of people who cannot see that their own rights are being eroded under their noses (and I say this as someone who was unaware of the self-ID legislation in Ireland despite being a canvasser for a main party Blush.

Isn’t it, @YourOpinionIsNoted?

Everyone can everything*

*apart from women and their safety, privacy, dignity and personal autonomy.

DodoPatrol · 20/01/2020 14:57

I'm sure it's not connected in any way, but... the advert I'm getting at the top of the webchat says 'RUBBISH CLEARANCE'

DeathByPuppy · 20/01/2020 14:57

Everyone can HAVE everything

DeathByPuppy · 20/01/2020 14:59

Uterus havers, @Michelleoftheresistance? Angry

Grin @DodoPatrol

EmpressLesbianInChair · 20/01/2020 15:00

I wish I was surprised. I'm just not.

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2020 15:01

I give up. TWAW, and those of us born without a penis simply don't matter..
Where can I move to where my daughter won't have to grow up with this crap?

Gertrudesgarden · 20/01/2020 15:02

ooh my first deletion (I think).

I'll hang my head in shame and think very seriously about my actions.

Only joking.

endofthelinefinally · 20/01/2020 15:02

Back in the 70s, many of us predicted that the closure of special schools and forced inclusion in mainstream schools would be a disaster for large numbers of children who never had a chance of coping in crowded, noisy, stressful environments. Add in the total lack of appropriately trained staff and IMO it amounts to child abuse.
2 family members were senior staff in special schools and they absolutely knew this is where it would end up.
One family member was asked to advise a labour education secretary and he was completely ignored.
Listening skills are very poor amongst politicians.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/01/2020 15:03

I suspect more posters will be banned by teatime.

NewYearsHumberElla · 20/01/2020 15:04

How on earth can she be so misinformed when she has been so heavily involved in the trans equality inquiry and the resulting report?

Because those advisory bodies, all those who were consulted and the individuals given close personal access to air their views right at the outset were all lobbying heavily for one agenda. Primacy effect - get in first and you are more likely to be remembered and referenced in future.

Also, judging by what we’ve seen of the lobbying done in more public spheres, I suspect there was three litres of bullshit, misinformation and emotive fluffing for every half teaspoon of facts and evidence.

That locked thread has reduced from 11 pages to 10 in the last few minutes. Our words are shrinking.

endofthelinefinally · 20/01/2020 15:06

Sorry, wrong thread. I am getting all the webchat stuff confused.
Very disappointed in Jess Phillips.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/01/2020 15:07

Where was the webchat - I cant see it anywhere?

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2020 15:08

I as grateful to read it. And without detracting from the important issue of sen teaching you're telling us changes were made, experts complained and were ignored and now it's a disaster. I think we can see the parallels.

PencilsInSpace · 20/01/2020 15:09

I know, NewYearsHumberElla. But however heavy and disingenuous the lobbying was, surely if you're going to consider changing the GRA the first thing you need to do is read the GRA Confused

TinselAngel · 20/01/2020 15:09
  • Tinsel

  • You were very gracious under the circumstances

I don't want to get banned.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/01/2020 15:12

I don't think we need any more confirmation of Jess Philip's position and we are all clear where she stands.

It was her Swinson Swansong.

NewYearsHumberElla · 20/01/2020 15:12

Pencils Yep. Agree!

It’s almost as though we are not supposed to have noticed, or read the thing ourselves.

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/01/2020 15:20

I live in a very safe labour seat, we had no canvassers round during the election. I went to a neighbouring constituency a very safe Tory seat, the Labour activists were out in full force. My relative stopped answering the door, after the 5th canvasser.
Labour don't give a fuck about women, or the working class.
Are any of the other candidates doing a webchat ?

FaFoutis · 20/01/2020 15:24

It's all very sad, I thought she was great in the Brexit debates. Jess isn't getting my vote.

ElusiveOrangeTwirl · 20/01/2020 15:27

I don't know why any of you are surprised. As I said a few pages back, what were you expecting to happen?

Gone2far · 20/01/2020 15:28

I'm no fan of JP, but she was honest about what she thought. Even though most posters disagree with her, I think she should be respected for that.
Two years ago, she did another webchat on MN, and basically ignored most of the questions on the subject, apart from a general statement to the effect that more discussion was required.
So, we know where we stand, which has got to be a good thing.

Gertrudesgarden · 20/01/2020 15:32

Gone2far - agreed. We know now for sure that she's on her knees in front of them.

Datun · 20/01/2020 15:34

She might be honest, but she is basing her opinion on ignorance over both the spousal veto, and what is required for a gender recognition certificate. She is quite simply wrong.

Igmum · 20/01/2020 15:37

Yes definitely, me too. @MNHQ please listen. Let's have a good sustained discussion. Don't let her weasel her way out of this. Don't limit it to one question before asking her what her favourite colour is. This is important and this is what we want to discuss.
