Who else would really appreciate a polite discussion of gender issues and the concerns of women at the jess Philips webchat on Monday?

I posted on the webchat thread:
Since the questions have already been asked I am not allowed to repeat similar but I want on record that self ID, its potential abuse, protection of vulnerable young people from those who promote transition which can sometimes include puberty blockers, the protection of natal women's rights and the importance of teaching biological facts in schools are big concerns to me.

MNHQ have said they don't want any more comments or questions about gender issues on the Web chat thread which I can understand. However what I do want to make clear is the number of people who may share some or all of my concerns. Otherwise any questions about gender issues are of an equal weight to all others and in fact others, which can be repeated in a different form, may seem to gain more weight.

MN are vanishing posts in real time on the webchat. Mine's gone, I'm sure I'm not alone.

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:50

Honestly, I think my head is going to explode.

How can you, in one fucking thread, say that you think transwomen are women, and then talk about 'women' who this, that and the other, as completely separate!

It's insane.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/01/2020 13:52

But of all the webchat, the only thing I am hearing is multiple variations on "yes that's important, we should look at it/talk about it/fund it [delete as applicable]

There's no backbone, no "unfortunately I don't believe that is a priority for my Labour party" or "that is a luxury the country cannot afford right now" etc.

It's all just yes yes yes. Easy to say, impossible to do.

Saucery · 20/01/2020 13:56

Did she seriously just deflect the concerns of a working class woman by saying she’s knocked on thousands of working class doors but never got credit for it?
Beyond parody, still.

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:57

many of us agree with you than transwomen are women, while still believing that it's important and valid to discuss specific instances where same-natal sex spaces may be appropriate.

Eh??

Yes they're women, but not actual women.

For fuck's sake.

Saucery · 20/01/2020 13:59

Oops, no, I got that wrong. But I did mention my concerns over trans women to my Labour candidate and asked him to feed them right back up the chain. So, they do know it is an issue for some people.
They’d have to live in a bubble of woke purity not to have realised that some of us very much give a shit about it.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/01/2020 14:00

My comment on nobody knocking on my door has been removed! Why?? I didn't even say anything controversial.

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 14:00

I'm going to be honest, I didn't expect anything else. Not after that Pink News interview.

I don't think I can ever forgive Labour for this. Especially not Labour women like Jess, Stella etc who always seemed so strong on women's rights.

Sexnotgender · 20/01/2020 14:02

Ooft, the mods are deleting posts at lightning speed on the webchat!!

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/01/2020 14:03

Which was really the bottom line of the issue: the kind gesture of 'yes yes of course they are women' covered up the subtext of (but obviously people born female have their own needs/facilities/issues and those will still be separately provided.)

It's just made anything to do with people born female the next target in gaining a woman's identity if you were born male. Any boundary around people born female will always therefore be a target, because it prevents the wholly, totally a woman thing.

You can put down a boundary and be prepared to defend it, or you can feed females to males. One or the other.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/01/2020 14:03

Oh and now another one asking whether its the XX or XY women doing all the work.

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/01/2020 14:08

Unfortunately I suspect this is exactly what MN were trying to prevent happening on that webchat.

EsmeShelby · 20/01/2020 14:09

I would

Sexnotgender · 20/01/2020 14:10

Unfortunately I suspect this is exactly what MN were trying to prevent happening on that webchat.

Maybe if we had genuine open debate on the subject rather than being shut down and threatened then webchats like this wouldn’t be derailed.

Datun · 20/01/2020 14:10

It's deceitful to talk about debate but not inciting hatred, without clarifying who you are speaking about. It's inflammatory and cowardly.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 20/01/2020 14:11

Holy fuck, I deliberately didn't watch this in real time to avoid repeating my David Cameron webchat loss of temper.

There is so much wrong there, I can't even (-/ my DC would say)

I wonder if our posts would be deleted if we all simply posted something like "You've lost my vote for you, and for Labour".

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/01/2020 14:12

JP - If you are waiting for a politician with who you have no differing views or approaches you're going to wait forever.

Yes, I think the electorate get that. It's largely why so many labour voters voted conservative.

Miriel · 20/01/2020 14:14

I'm glad she replied to my comment, even if I didn't much like the answer, because at least that means it'll stay up. So many invisible deletions on that thread!

TheKrakening3 · 20/01/2020 14:14

Thread has been closed. Cowards

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/01/2020 14:15

The thing is people were responding to specific parts of her comments. Is it normal not to challenge those? I don't think it is, I have been on many webchats and people do it regularly. Now it seems you can only accept what you have been given.

Gertrudesgarden · 20/01/2020 14:17

The doorstep thing is a red herring. People answering the door to a political canvasser or even the candidate ask questions about their local area - schools, hospitals, public transport, etc etc. Nobody realises that the whole self ID thing isn't a "special interest" issue - it's been brushed under the carpet and hidden from view, with only those on one side of the debate being given the heads up of consultations about how the legal system could be changed to suit them. I call lies and deceit. I think politicians have been deceitful and underhand and I want to know how much they're being paid by big pharma to play along with this scheme.

COWARDS. And MNHQ, that includes you.

bellinisurge · 20/01/2020 14:18

So when is Lisa Nandy coming on. I'd be interested to hear what she thinks having read what Jess Phillips has said. Which was a disappointing read.

GrandmaMazur · 20/01/2020 14:19

I had a vanishing post too...

Oaky321 · 20/01/2020 14:21

I just gasped out loud when I read her response TWAW while in the same breathe saying women need their own spaces!

Bye Jess.

TinselAngel · 20/01/2020 14:21

So her opposition to the Spousal Exist clause is definitely based on a misunderstanding of the law, at least that's been confirmed.

Also I owe Empress a pint.
