Who else would really appreciate a polite discussion of gender issues and the concerns of women at the jess Philips webchat on Monday?

I posted on the webchat thread:
Since the questions have already been asked I am not allowed to repeat similar but I want on record that self ID, its potential abuse, protection of vulnerable young people from those who promote transition which can sometimes include puberty blockers, the protection of natal women's rights and the importance of teaching biological facts in schools are big concerns to me.

MNHQ have said they don't want any more comments or questions about gender issues on the Web chat thread which I can understand. However what I do want to make clear is the number of people who may share some or all of my concerns. Otherwise any questions about gender issues are of an equal weight to all others and in fact others, which can be repeated in a different form, may seem to gain more weight.

Thank you @Michelleoftheresistance for that eloquent expansion of my question. Although I do just want to cry now, because who is looking out for the privacy, comfort and safety of our young girls? Nobody. Has anyone asked why we segregate by sex from a certain age? No. Thanks Sad

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:02

Same here. In a flash, it completely changes the way you think about a person.

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/01/2020 13:06

Hope you don't mind flushed - sorry. Regular posters here are used to knowing all the obvious hidden issues in this, but others may not unless they're unpacked.

I suppose the other issue not mentioned in that:

  • Where was the mandate from people born female that sex segregation should be abandoned before politicians acted on this? Where was that discussed and consulted on and put in manifestos?
Michelleoftheresistance · 20/01/2020 13:08

Momsnet?

…...seriously?

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:09

IKR? I thought that was American.

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2020 13:09

People in Birmingham say mom apparently. I thought it was amusing.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/01/2020 13:12

Straight past all the first questions? I do hope she'll come back to those...

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:13

I think it might be 'form' to answer them near the end, so the pushback has a limit

KettlePolly · 20/01/2020 13:14

Yup mom is defo a Brum/black country thing. Was a shock to me when my first home made card from nursery appeared To Mommy" as I'm from the south originally x

PencilsInSpace · 20/01/2020 13:16

' ... are you in touch now with the country and what people talk about.'

Well, are you Jess?

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 13:18

Hope you don't mind flushed - sorry.

Don't apologise, of course I don't mind. It was spot on Brew Thank you for writing it.

Gertrudesgarden · 20/01/2020 13:20

Copy and paste from an answer JP has just given, on th webchat.

"I think it's what you do and how you live now that matters and are you in touch now with the country and what people talk about."

I nearly spat out my fucking cuppasoup.

There you go, MNHQ. You may just be denying JP a chance to PROVE she's in touch with what over 200 of us WANT TO TALK ABOUT.

GirlsInGreen · 20/01/2020 13:21

Yes we do say mom here! @StealthPolarBear thank you again for this Star

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:29

Yup mom is defo a Brum/black country thing

Oh okay. I'm probably just a bit grumpy. It's hard to be fair when you're this pissed off

Sexnotgender · 20/01/2020 13:31

Well JP thinks TWAW😏

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/01/2020 13:31

Well, she's answered the self id question.

"TWAW but women deserve their own spaces" ok then.... Confused

Sexnotgender · 20/01/2020 13:33

TWAW are women but women deserve their own spaces. Which if TWAW will include males...

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/01/2020 13:34

And she has cravenly omitted the fact she tried to write the spousal veto into law by saying marriage consent should be mutual.

You do know this is the internet Jess? We have the receipts.

I'd have given you a lot more kudos for admitting you gone fucked up with that, instead of pretending it was nothing to do with you.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/01/2020 13:37

That's not my experience and women in refuges or in sexual violence services are all risk-assessed and can be turned away for a variety of reasons, such as safeguarding.

Ah, the old "but women do it too" line.
What next, lesbians in the changing rooms are just as bad as men?

You are a disgrace to women Jess Phillips. A disgrace.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/01/2020 13:38

Well, that's as clear as day. Jess Phillips is a biology denier.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 20/01/2020 13:41

I refuse to believe that someone who claims to have worked in a refuge does not get this.

Gertrudesgarden · 20/01/2020 13:42

Oh jesus suffering fuck.

I'm genuinely out of anything other than that....what a pile of horseshit.

Datun · 20/01/2020 13:45

That's difficult to believe.

I honestly don't think they can actually hear what they're saying. They are so steeped in the soundbite, then not analysing what they're actually saying

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 13:46

"TWAW but women deserve their own spaces" ok then.... confused

I don't know how that circle can be squared, tbh. Does she mean natal women deserve their spaces - in which case TW are most definitely not women, or they'd be included - or women (inclusive of transwomen) deserve their own spaces? I.e. women deserve their own spaces only if they include transwomen?

Because that's kind of the whole issue - what is a woman? What is a transwoman? Is there such a thing as a female penis? (no, there is not - by very definition, a penis is a male sexual organ).

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 13:48

And Jess has never met a transperson who wants her not to talk about female biology - what, therefore they don't exist? Confused

What about high profile trans-activist Munroe Bergdorf asking women not to centre uteruses, or pussy hats, or women's biology at the Women's March? Is that not evidence enough.
