Is there an end of party song in England??

I'm English, moved to Scotland in my teens.

OBVIOUSLY if you've ever been to a party in Scotland, you'll know that it is the law that the last song played must be Loch Lomond. If you breach this you get sent to jail and forbidden from entering Scotland for 1000 years.

Anyway, is there an English equivalent? Or Welsh or Irish for that matter!

Places I go to it's either Bohemian Rhapsody or Hit the road Jack.

Comefromaway · 16/01/2020 20:49

Definitely New York New York

WooMaWang · 16/01/2020 20:50

I've never been to a party in Scotland that ended with Loch Lomond. You must be going to very different parties to the kind I used to go to.

turnthebiglightoff · 16/01/2020 20:51

100% New York New York.

LittleMachine · 16/01/2020 20:52

New York, New York has ended nearly every party I've been to. It was banned at my wedding. As was Angels or anything else by that gurning dickhead.
We finished with Fairytale Of New York at our wedding 😀 Flying Without Wings was an end of night song round here for a while. The indie club I used to go to used to play Postman Pat.

coffeeeandtv · 16/01/2020 20:53

Any weddings or parties in my area.... absolutely HAVE to end with 'you'll never walk alone'
People won't go home unless it's been played... it's usually preceded by 'New York new york'

Eminybob · 16/01/2020 20:53

Closing time by Semisonic. You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here Grin

Indeed. I go to fun ones Wink JUST JOKING.

Maybe it's a North East Scotland thing...? I don't know if its a thing in Glasgow or Edinburgh for example?

We always used to play this song on the juke box at my pub just after last orders.

Chocolatepeanuts · 16/01/2020 20:56

Irish/NI people, anyone else know the wedding is close to the end when the DJ starts Maniac 2000 and the floor goes absolutely mental?! Love it Grin

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 20:58

Yes chocolate! Grin

Soen · 16/01/2020 20:58

Came on to say Dont Stop Me Now by Queen

NicelyStarched · 16/01/2020 20:58

Can confirm Glasgow fun parties end in Loch Lomond, Bits n Pieces or You'll Never Walk Alone if that way inclined.

nagynolonger · 16/01/2020 20:59

Rolling Home by the late Roy Bailey.

MorrisZapp · 16/01/2020 21:01

It's Sailing by Rod Stewart

EmpressLesbianInChair · 16/01/2020 21:02

I used to go to a pub where it was always Remember You’re a Womble.

WooMaWang · 16/01/2020 21:03

@PrincessSloth I'm Glaswegian. I've never even been to a wedding that ended in Loch Lomond.

WooMaWang · 16/01/2020 21:04

I've been to a lot of (extremely fun) parties that ended in some sort of indie rock though.

Artus · 16/01/2020 21:05

Leeds Uni in the seventies, was always Bob Seger We've got tonight.

Sportycustard · 16/01/2020 21:05

More years ago than I choose to acknowledge, the end of the party song at Hull University was the Hawaii Five O theme. One night the guest DJ in the Student's Union had not been appropriately briefed and did not play it. There was practically a riot.

willothewispa · 16/01/2020 21:07

70s and 80s nightclubs in Sheffield

You didn't go to The Leadmill then!

JuniLoolaPalooza · 16/01/2020 21:09

Apologies to a pp for harking back.
When I was at uni they'd put the lights on to the baywatch theme or Simpson theme. Baywatch is very rousing.

redeyetonowheregood · 16/01/2020 21:10

I have a Pavilion response to Free Bird, I have to done my drink, hug everyone I'm with, tell them I love them and find my coat. Early / mid 90s student days.
