Is there an end of party song in England??

I'm English, moved to Scotland in my teens.

OBVIOUSLY if you've ever been to a party in Scotland, you'll know that it is the law that the last song played must be Loch Lomond. If you breach this you get sent to jail and forbidden from entering Scotland for 1000 years.

Anyway, is there an English equivalent? Or Welsh or Irish for that matter!

Always New York, New York.

All in a line, arms round each other, kicking in time (or probably completely out of time and kicking each other).

Such good memories!

This thread made me laugh
At dd2 christening we had a marquee in our garden. We had a DJ it was mostly the children on the dance floor.
At 7pm everyone was up on the dance floor for Loch Lomond absolutely pissed. They could hear us 3 streets away.

I like Mr Brightside, but it’s an odd choice for the end of a wedding: it’s about kissing somebody who isn’t your partner.

Que Sera Sera has been played at the end of quite a few weddings I’ve been too. Loads of people have had Wham’s Wake Me Up Before You Go to finish of their party, or Last Christmas at a Christmas parties.

I think there was a phase of Chelsea Dagger for a bit around 2010 as well actually

@GinGenie yes Dirty Dancing "I've had the time of my life" used to end the night here in South East... been a long time since I stayed to the end of a night out tho haha

Khione · 16/01/2020 20:28

New York, New York

70s and 80s nightclubs in Sheffield

Arseit · 16/01/2020 20:30

New York New York here too!

TheFlis12345 · 16/01/2020 20:31

New York New York for me as well.

evilharpyinapeartree · 16/01/2020 20:35

New York New York was played at the end of pretty much every Irish wedding I've ever been to, apart from one alcohol-free wedding of religious types that only had a meal and no evening reception/disco/band.

The national anthem used to always be played at the end of the night in clubs when I was in my teens and early twenties, is it not anymore?

Enjoy Yourself (It's Later than You Think)

I prefer the Prince Buster version. Others may differ (but they would be unreasonable)

ShakespearesSisters · 16/01/2020 20:38

Always look on the bright side of life by Monty python pops up a lot, New York, New York, Mr Brightside, basically one everyone can stand in a circle and sway to with arms around shoulders while singing at the top of their lungs.

Fleurdebleurgh · 16/01/2020 20:39

Having managed around 80 weddings over the last 10 years I can confirm that its usually either NYNY or Mr Bright side Hmm

Danglingmod · 16/01/2020 20:39

I love how people are saying it "used to be" or "surely" Reef or The Killers... Really recent songs in the scheme of things...!

When I was clubbing, it was always New York, New York or the National Anthem, too.

I agree with Hey, Jude or Come on Eileen at a pub or wedding.

BertieBotts · 16/01/2020 20:40

This is when I learn that I've clearly never actually been around for the end of a party :o

StormcloakNord · 16/01/2020 20:40

Mr Brightside at the end of the night ANYWHERE ruins the night for me.

Absolute honkingly shite song. Horrific.

PsychosonicCindy · 16/01/2020 20:41

I've heard Tubthumping by Chumbawumba at the end of the night loads of times!

newyeardelurker · 16/01/2020 20:42

It was the magic roundabout theme in my day!

CallofDoodee · 16/01/2020 20:42

Yep, Irish national anthem in Ireland and also Irish centres in England (remember going to all the things at the Irish centre as a kid and then everyone standing up at the end of the night for the national anthem). At one point Mr Jones by Counting Crows seemed to be played in at the end of the night in irish nightclubs?!

In Wales early 2000s it was always A Thousand Trees by The Stereophonics.

CallofDoodee · 16/01/2020 20:43

But yeah, in England, definitely Mr Brightside!

SparkyBlue · 16/01/2020 20:44

You'll never walk alone was the last song played at my wedding. I'm in Ireland and DH is a Liverpool fan.

littlecabbage · 16/01/2020 20:44

Bohemian Rhapsody is a cracker to end a wedding on (I may be biased) Grin

PencilsInSpace · 16/01/2020 20:44

Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me.

Late 80's, SE England, scuzzy goth club.

NicelyStarched · 16/01/2020 20:46

Ah I love Mr Brightside. I'll rise from my grave to lep about to it Grin

IstillmissWoolworths · 16/01/2020 20:47

I'm amazed no one has said Perfect Day! I know it's back story is a bit grim but it's still great to sing along to.
