Is there an end of party song in England??

I'm English, moved to Scotland in my teens.

OBVIOUSLY if you've ever been to a party in Scotland, you'll know that it is the law that the last song played must be Loch Lomond. If you breach this you get sent to jail and forbidden from entering Scotland for 1000 years.

Anyway, is there an English equivalent? Or Welsh or Irish for that matter!

Hey jude, obvs

Na, na na na-na-na-naaaaa

GoodnightJude1 · 16/01/2020 20:03

Sweet Caroline would make me leave whatever time it was....that song is horrendous!

I’d say New York, New York would be the one I’d associate most with ‘kicking out’ time

frankincenseandmur · 16/01/2020 20:03

New York New York for me too

PrincessSloth · 16/01/2020 20:04

@Huntlybyelection

The clubs in the little village where my ex used to live always ended the night with closing time... Which sounds like it really should be an end of party song.

It always used to be the can can at school parties.

alliejay81 · 16/01/2020 20:05

If you are a Liverpool fan it's You'll Never Walk Alone.

Every. Single. Family. Wedding.

I'd quite like a change to be honest Football

GinGenie · 16/01/2020 20:06

Surely it's the Dirty Dancing "Time of my life" song?

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 16/01/2020 20:07

It always used to be Robbie Williams - Angels when I was a teenager - that was your cue to grab a boy and start snogging, if you hadn't found one already!

At uni it was New York, New York

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 16/01/2020 20:07

I thought it'd be Country Roads!

CostcoFan · 16/01/2020 20:08

Captain - I was going to say Hi ho silver lining too but always preceded by Stairway to Heaven. I was about to say but later than the 70s, only I’ve just realised that it was that long ago (although early 80s maybe a bit as well)

Weepingwillows12 · 16/01/2020 20:08

New york New York or when I go to family parties in liverpool always hey jude.

Miss1973HulaHoopChampion · 16/01/2020 20:10

New York New York was played at the end of the night when I used go
clubbing - but that was a long time
ago!

RoomR0613 · 16/01/2020 20:10

New York New York

Or

Always look on the bright side of life

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 20:11

I’m in NI and strangely quite a few weddings I’ve been to have ended with you’ll never walk alone! Confused I’m not sure if that’s just because I unwittingly know a lot of Liverpool fans Grin

technosausage · 16/01/2020 20:11

Don't know about anywhere else but in Cornwall it always used to be "place your hands" by Reef.

PrincessSloth · 16/01/2020 20:11

Now I wonder if maybe its a regional thing?

I can't get over New York New York, I don't think I've ever heard that played at a party!

noideaatallreally · 16/01/2020 20:11

Country Roads here in Wales

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 20:12

If you are a Liverpool fan it's You'll Never Walk Alone.

Every. Single. Family. Wedding.

Not just me then! Grin

MyNewBearTotoro · 16/01/2020 20:13

Mr Brigtside seems to be common round here.

Mumdiva99 · 16/01/2020 20:13

@PrincessSloth This is very outing for me but we had 500 miles as one of our wedding 'hymns' and before I walked in the pianist played 'Lets get married'. -- I'm not Scottish but have Scottish blood. (And I just thought they were both very apt - and who doesn't like a bit of na na na na....na na na na....na na na na nananana na na...)

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 20:14

Irish national anthem here sometimes. Depends where you are. Wink

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 20:14

I’ve never heard New York New York played.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/01/2020 20:14

You can get a cat as long as it barks 😆

Mumdiva99 · 16/01/2020 20:15

And in answer to the original question New York New York for cheesy nightclubs when I was young.

SheLivesInHope · 16/01/2020 20:16

Hey Jude in our social circle! Not even our era as we're all mid 80s babies.
