Is there an end of party song in England??

I'm English, moved to Scotland in my teens.

OBVIOUSLY if you've ever been to a party in Scotland, you'll know that it is the law that the last song played must be Loch Lomond. If you breach this you get sent to jail and forbidden from entering Scotland for 1000 years.

Anyway, is there an English equivalent? Or Welsh or Irish for that matter!

In the teenage discos of my youth it was Seven Drunken Nights followed by the National Anthem... clubs usually a "slow set" followed by the National Anthem... currently local late bar no preamble just the National Anthem...there's definitely a theme..dunno how we don't all get up to leave when they play it at matches 😂

Angels - Robbie Williams - maybe penultimate because it's a bit smoochy
Hey Jude
Mr brightside
Sweet Caroline

Go Now by The Moody Blues Grin

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 16/01/2020 21:47

I have never even heard of 'Mr Brightside'. Just went in to YouTube and I can safety say I have never heard it before ( I would definitely remember something so dire!)

katy1213 · 16/01/2020 21:51

Your half-pissed auntie singing Danny Boy?

ManonBlackbeak · 16/01/2020 21:52

Ive been to a few where You'll Never Walk Alone has been played at the end of the night, and I dont live in Liverpool or even Merseyside!

katy1213 · 16/01/2020 21:53

@mrslinmanuelmiranda I'm another one who had to google Mr Brightside and I'd never heard of it either. I can see that it would clear a room!

user133367 · 16/01/2020 21:54

I'm glad a few others have said Hey Jude.

I used to go to a pub where it was always Remember You’re a Womble.
Way back, in the 90s, when I lived in Birmingham I'd go to a nightclub that always played this at the end of the night. It was the signal to (drunkenly) leave the dance floor.

I was going to say I associate the irish national anthem with end of the night in Ireland, but only outside Dublin.

TheThingWithFeathers · 16/01/2020 22:00

Now I want to go to a wedding in England just for the sheer novelty value of hearing New York New York rather than Loch Lomond at the end of the night!

Times10 · 16/01/2020 22:04

The second song to last was always “don’t stop me now” at the clubs when I was a student, a decade or so ago.

Rottenmilkcup · 16/01/2020 22:06

West coast Scotland and always thought Loch Lomond was just an end of wedding party song but the last two parties I've been to (an 18th and NY eve party) it was played as the last song. Its the only time I'm seen on the dance floor at a party Grin. I hate going on the dance floor but there's something about Loch Lomond that can't keep me backGrin.

Muddlingalongalone · 16/01/2020 22:08

Don't go out much these days & even less likely to stay till closing time - over the years have heard almost all of the above , was so confused by the Irish national anthem.
One that hasn't been mentioned that was a regular feature when I was at uni was Never Forget - obligatory swaying, leaning on each other and clapping!

Toseland · 16/01/2020 22:16

Enjoy Yourself (it’s later than you think) is a great way to finish anything.

shirleyschmidt · 16/01/2020 22:21

@Muddlingalongalone just came on to say Never Forget! 🙌

ruby2020 · 16/01/2020 22:29

I absolutely loathe the song Loch Lomond, and living in the Highlands am regularly subjected to it at the end of parties.

I got stilleto'd in the toe by someone during the stamping last time, as if it didn't annoy me enough already.

willothewispa · 16/01/2020 22:32

I was born and bred in Hereford which is as close to wales as can be without being in.... wales
waves hello...do you still live in the area ?

hambledon · 16/01/2020 23:16

London teen discos in the 70s and 80s it was Good Night Sweetheart (well it's time to go).

TheGirlWhoLived · 28/01/2020 19:15

@willothewispa not any more unfortunately, the lure of the motorway was too tempting and we moved to the dizzy heights of worcester, still there whenever I get a chance!
