Dennis is a great name! Don't knock it. It's a cool, cool name.
I really like the alternative spelling as well, Denys.
It's a name I would have considered for a DS3. We'll be sticking with the two we've got.

TheVanguardSix · 17/01/2020 17:43

AND I'm married to a Laurence! Another cool name!

Knew Gary would get loads of mentions Grin It's very outing but I call my son (5) Gary all the time. Not his actual name or anywhere near it for that matter, but it suits him SOOO well. He is just such a Gary

I read something about a celebrity who has a daughter called Vera. Can’t remember who it was. I love the name. Good job I didn’t have a daughter - my son is called Jack!

I never understand the hate for Linda. Yes, it’s dated, but if you strip that away it’s not an unpleasant sounding name at all.

Cinammoncake · 17/01/2020 18:03

Playing family bingo here, doing rather well, so far my name, my DH's name, my DM's name, my DF's name, my SIL's name, my MIL's name, my DD's middle name and my DS's middle name have all appeared 😂 even one of my Aunties, one of my Uncles and one of my Cousins names have appeared on the list.
I also know a Lillian and a Felix.

AlecOrAlonzo · 17/01/2020 18:04

I teach lots of kids called Donald, Malcolm, Norman, Robert...all very popular here. I think they're good names.

I'm not fond of Cyril. Can't imagine a baby called that.

Tabsvik79 · 17/01/2020 18:07

Adolph

my 2 year old granddaughter is Daphne - it's a lovely name and suits her

Helpfullilly · 17/01/2020 18:07

I love the name Sandra (along with a few others, Malcolm for instance), and it's one I'd consider giving to a future DD. It's partly I like it not as common as my own name but also I knew someone I really respect with this name.

I think most will gradually come back in again due to the cyclical nature of names, and some are already. What used to sound like someone's unmarried spinster aunt starts to sound sophisticated and exotic with enough time. Sometimes, it's the aunt they are named after.

There is nothing wrong with Deborah or Ruth. Both are lovely biblical names, of heroines, that don't date. I am a Ruth and have always loved it. Similarly Esther, Rebecca, Naomi, Sarah.
