Sure can’t wait to get my hands on some of the Harry and Meghan socks they’ve trademarked

noodlenosefraggle · 09/01/2020 10:39

It's not Kate's 40th or anything is it? Shes 38. Just an ordinary party. She'll have another one next year.

Whatever H&M have done/worn there's been stuff in the press about how they're wasting and flashing about OUR money. How appalling they are. What spendthrifts with public cash.

The decision and the details on the website appear to be a natural reaction to that. They probably hoped that by refusing the Sovereign Grant and earning money themselves there would be less public and press outrage.

Of course it's just shown that in many people's eyes they can do nothing right. This thread demonstrates that.

KatyCarrCan · 09/01/2020 10:42

I love that the media aren't linking to H&M's new website despite all the stories about their announcement. I appreciate that level of petty Grin

SF1269 · 09/01/2020 10:47

An interesting 'take' I read somewhere, speculation the photo of the Queen, Charles, William and George released by the RF precipitated their announcement earlier than planned, it being viewed as a clear indication that he is pretty irrelevant. Don't know how accurate that report is.

If their titles are removed, how would that affect the trade mark? Anyone know?

I really don't think they should be monetising their title if they don't want to be traditional royals.

The monarchy should retain control otherwise who knows what "sussex royal" could be added to.

user1467892870 · 09/01/2020 10:52

Love to be a fly on the wall when Phillip heard the news! Grin

strictlymomdancing · 09/01/2020 10:53

The photo is the queen with all her direct heirs. I see no issue with that photo. Surely H&M can't be so stupid as to take that the wrong way?

Pedallleur · 09/01/2020 10:54

compared to creepy Andrew it's not that big a deal

AraGrand · 09/01/2020 10:57

Hahaha - Megxit. Love it! Grin

MarshaBradyo · 09/01/2020 10:58

Megxit v good Grin

Whoever plays PP in The Crown can do the reaction I can imagine it now.

diddl · 09/01/2020 10:59

"being viewed as a clear indication that he is pretty irrelevant."

That can't be news to him though-as soon as W&K had kids his position changed.

He is still the GS of a Monarch & son, brother & uncle to future Monarchs.

It was always going to be that way.

I would have thought that PC always planned for Harry to have a role when he was King, likewise William.

So I wouldn't have thought that a pic of HM & those in line would be the tipping point.

It has been planned for longer I would have thought.

So initially H&M were going to "hit the ground running" & I always thought that with her being OK with public speaking & being papped that it was a distinct possibility.

Never really happened though- so were they too constrained from the outset for their liking?

Lightsabre · 09/01/2020 11:01

How gross that the Queen makes known that she’s “disappointed” that her grandson’s wife doesn’t want to work for the family business, but not disappointed that her son has been accused of sexually abusing numerous teenage girls.

Copied from the other thread and so true.

Fraggot · 09/01/2020 11:08

I really don't think they should be monetising their title if they don't want to be traditional royals.

Agreed. It’s all so pathetic.

H&M: ‘Let us be free! Free to earn without you’

H&M: we’re so independent 😏

Hepsibar · 09/01/2020 11:09

Who actually cares. Let them get on with their lives what a shame more of them arent doing the same.

Our gift as a nation has been the wedding, the security (poss ongoing), the revamping of the cottage.

Fraggot · 09/01/2020 11:10

I want a refund

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/01/2020 11:12

I'll have a refund too.

BackyardChickens · 09/01/2020 11:19

Their new website says that they cost the UK tax payer £1 per head, per year. Is this true?

Bluntness100 · 09/01/2020 11:26

Actually I care. Because what I think they are attempting to do is morally wrong. They want all the privilege of being royal but none of the work or constraints that go with it.

As much as I understand and agree their security should be paid for, it's required and I think too much for them to bare alone, I think it's too much for them to ask for a grace and favour house in the uk, frogmore, and for the gueen or Charles to continue to pay to run their offices and home costs, they are worth 34 million for goodness sake. They should be financially independent already. Not at some point in the future.

They also should not be able to cash in on their titles. Any attempt to do so, should see them stripped immediately of them.

If they had said, we will live as private individuals, not take paid work, and work on charity, and have our security and costs paid for by the queen/Charles, then ok, I'd get it. But saying I want it all paid and Any work I do I shall be paid for, and I'm going to use my title to get that work, then it's very morally wrong.

ThinkPositiveThoughts · 09/01/2020 11:41

I’d like a refund for me and my three family members.

I can use the £4 for some trolley tokens to keep in the car, which will provide me with more benefit than H&M (or any other royal) ever has.

WeshMaGueule · 09/01/2020 12:00

I'll undercut them by 50%. Can everyone in the country send me fifty p please? Total bargain.

strictlymomdancing · 09/01/2020 12:14

Saying they only cost us £1 each is rather sneery, for want of a better way of putting it.

FruitcakeOfHate · 09/01/2020 12:15

Their strong arm tactics, announcing on their website before agreements have been reached, show they are quite prepared to turn their back on the Royal family.

Except when it comes to the titles and money. If I were the Queen (and had the power), I'd strip him of his titles. He's really shown himself to be quite the brat. At least Edward VIII had the balls to fully quit it all. And wow, he lived financially independent!
