Only once when I was about 8 for a bit of a joke.

OP posts:
FrogsFrogs · 04/01/2020 18:06

Once I think, last year.
Girl was being beaten up.
Took I think 8 mins to get through after the initial call handler asked which service.

iklboo · 04/01/2020 18:07

Six or seven for emergencies.

A couple of fires, once when someone had been knocked off their bike, once when a relative was ill, once when a guy had been stabbed and knocked on our door for help and once when someone was trying to kick our front door in.

Watto1 · 04/01/2020 18:08

Twice. First time was when I saw a bloke climbing in through a neighbour’s window. Turned out to be innocent but better safe than sorry. Second time was when a skip caught fire and was very close to a parked car. Fire Brigade dealt with it quickly.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/01/2020 18:08

A few. A couple of cars being torched and a fight outside my house!

TowerRingInferno · 04/01/2020 18:10

Never

PlaymobilPirate · 04/01/2020 18:10

Twice. Old lady had fallen in town - Mam nursed her head while I rang. Security guard told us off as she does it all the time and is know for carrying a knife.

2nd time 3 weeks ago for a student in the middle of a long seizure. I knew she has epilepsy but I'd never seen an episode and was utterly traumatised.

fluffyjumper · 04/01/2020 18:10

20 plus times for ambulances as I worked in district nursing.

JassyRadlett · 04/01/2020 18:10

Once only, when my son was choking on a grape. Most terrifying experience of my life.

foamrolling · 04/01/2020 18:11

Once when my daughter had a fit. Paramedics came very quickly thankfully.

Apolloanddaphne · 04/01/2020 18:11

Once when the house across the road was on fire.

SentimentalKiller · 04/01/2020 18:12

More times than I wish to count. SN DC who can be violent towards me
Lack of help and services means the police are often the only help available

Stompythedinosaur · 04/01/2020 18:12

Lots of times at work (as a mental health nurse, we still need an ambulance for a medical emergency), only once out of work for a motorbike accident.

ProfFlitwick · 04/01/2020 18:12

Once, to help a drunk man who looked like he was about to fall in to a deep river.

HelenaJustina · 04/01/2020 18:13

3 times. Twice for DC (one head injury where they were unresponsive and one serious burn)
Once when a man was behaving dangerously erratically in foot in the middle of an A road shouting at cars.

Keepmewarm · 04/01/2020 18:13

Three times out of work.
1st someone being glassed
2nd someone threatening with a knife
3rd domestic violence

Multiple times at work

caringiscreepy · 04/01/2020 18:13

Once for ds when he was 3

TeddyIsaHe · 04/01/2020 18:14

Twice. Both the fire brigade.

The first was when I was 7/8 and set the kitchen on fire by grilling roast (!) and the second was last week when dd locked me in the back garden and I couldn't get round the front or through the front door.

Dockray · 04/01/2020 18:14

Once for DD having an asthma attack. Lovely lady got the first responder to us within minutes, shortly followed by the ambulance.

Dh rang when I had a very quick labour. Nobody believed I was about to deliver- including the paramedics. There was a panic when I shouted she was out and one of the paramedics burst into tears. Hmm

TeddyIsaHe · 04/01/2020 18:14

*toast a roast would have been extravagant!

enjoyingscience · 04/01/2020 18:15

Four times - two for fires (both arson - someone tried to burn a pub down and one recycling bin in a car park). One police for a fight, one ambulance for a poor guy who had fallen (drunk) in the street, hit his head and was unconscious. Sounds like a lot when I think about it!

CointreauVersial · 04/01/2020 18:15

SentimentalKiller, that's very sad.

As for me, twice I've called 999.

Once many years ago, when a bloke was being beaten up outside my flat.

Once about six weeks ago, when I started haemorrhaging after my hysterectomy.

milkysmum · 04/01/2020 18:15

Maybe 15, 20. I work in mental health. I've rung them when patients have taken overdoses of medication, and I've rung them for support when patients have been violent or aggressive ( I'll be honest though the 'help' we have received from police has generally been poor and we have had responses from police such as ' not our problem, you should be dealing with this yourself' 😔

GertiMJN · 04/01/2020 18:15

Never until.18 months ago when we found my elderly father collapsed on the floor. Over the next 6 months I had to call 99 for ambulance at least 8 times for my parents. Always had to wait over over an hour including almost 4 hours with my mum who had a broken femur Sad

GertiMJN · 04/01/2020 18:16

999 not 99

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 04/01/2020 18:16

Several times at work. I work in a school and had to once ring for a child who said they had taken an overdose and a few times for PE neck and back injuries.
