Only once when I was about 8 for a bit of a joke.

OP posts:
Aragog · 04/01/2020 18:33

Twice

First - at work. I work in an infant school and it was for a child who had concussion.

Second - on way home one evening. Saw a disabled man in a mobility scooter fall to one side and knocked his head on the floor cutting it. He appeared a little confused, as well as bleeding, on the chair being righted (another man came across after Id stopped and lifted the scooter up) so I called 999 then . They came quickly, patched him up, monitored for a while and took him home.

I nearly called it for myself when having a very prolonged SVT attack earlier this year but kept putting it off. Eventually my colleague drove me to A&E in the end as I was so reluctant to use 999. In fact that happened 3 times this summer.

BlueCornsihPixie · 04/01/2020 18:33

Only once by me (car accident)

Have been present at 3 further ringings. Once of an elderly lady who'd had a fall in the street, she'd been on the ground for a couple of hours Sad

Once when a patient arrived very drunk/high and promptly had a seizure

Once when there was a fire in the woods by our house

Aragog · 04/01/2020 18:35

Oh and 999 for police when we were burgled whilst in bed one night.

cricketmum84 · 04/01/2020 18:36

Only a few times. Once when I came home from work to find smoke pouring out of my kitchen. DS called 999 for me when I had a bad reaction to medication and had an hour long nosebleed and started bleeding out of my eyes. Medication had potential clotting side effects so it was quite serious.

Other than that just 101 for when he has run away a few times (don't ask) and when I found a burnt out car on a country lane.

Thehagonthehillwithtinsel · 04/01/2020 18:36

4 times, twice for sick relatives, one when a field full of sheep were trotting down the road towards a major road and once for a runaway horse, saddled and riderless.

Sexnotgender · 04/01/2020 18:36

Once, when my work was on fire.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/01/2020 18:37

A LOT. Almost did this week for a knife fight outside my office. I work in housing!

About twice for fire, many times for ambulance, many more for police. Never for coastguard or mountain rescue.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 04/01/2020 18:38

Three times - twice for someone in status epilepticus, once for a lorry blowing a tyre and rolling over in front of my car on a bust motorway.

My parents are in their 70s and neither has ever called 999.

Chipsahoy · 04/01/2020 18:39

Three times.
Once for a friend who overdosed.
Once when a man was hitting my Dh in the face
Once when ds2 decided he was going to make a very fast entry to the world.
All three times ambulance/ police came very very quickly.

FriedasCarLoad · 04/01/2020 18:39

A few times, for strangers - a couple of times when people were taken ill in the street and a couple of times after serious car crashes. Paramedics arrived quickly each time.

JontyDoggle37 · 04/01/2020 18:39

Probably 20-30 at least. First on scene at several car accidents and some horse rider accidents (I have a horse as well), frequent flyer with my mum who passed away in August as well, son with croup, and husband whose back likes to go into spasm so badly he needs a morphine drip and muscle relaxants just so he can move enough to wee...Hmm in fact, trips with my mum got so frequent the ambulance would come and get her, I’d drive to the hospital in my car, park and go to the hospital Costa and get coffees for me and the ambulance crew and still beat them to the queue for majors!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 04/01/2020 18:40

Once when I witnessed a fight outside where I work and a guy was being pounded to the floor.

GrassWasGreener · 04/01/2020 18:40

3 times.
Twice on my brother as he is a maniac and once attacked my other brother to then come for me (I had locked myself in another room while I called 999). He heard me on phone to police and like all awful bullies he ran away. Police got him later.
2nd time brother outside house threatening us and doing damage to vehicles etc, again he ran when I called 999. Again they. Caught him later
Last time was for a Friend to report her missing and give location of her home as we thought her BF was beating her up
Other than that life is fairly peaceful Hmm

Elderflower14 · 04/01/2020 18:40

Several times for an ambulance for my now late DP... sad 😔.
Once I dialled 101 when we saw a flock of sheep heading for a main road was transferred to 999.
Once when we were driving to DPs daughters and he saw two men climbing over school gates.
Once when my best friend had a seizure and fell down my stairs....

NerrSnerr · 04/01/2020 18:41

A few times for work.

Out of work I have called them for a neighbour who fell in the garden and another times for some people threatening a taxi driver outside our house.

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2020 18:42

Never.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 04/01/2020 18:42

Only once. I'd be scared to ring them nowadays Grin

NaToth · 04/01/2020 18:44

Once on my mobile for an elderly man who thought he was having a stroke. That was on our honeymoon, so15 years ago. Once last year when the homeless people who camp in the park were setting fire to large cardboard boxes close to a main road and buildings and quite regularly for me personally because I have unstable angina and the medication doesn't always work first off.

isthistoonosy · 04/01/2020 18:45

Once for my kid who was fitting (not epileptic), all was fine although I had to.shout the first responders over from my MIL house next door as they assumed it was her they were going to.
Once at work for a fire, only police as we had put it out but assumed arson. They were quick but a bit funny as they came with me to question neighbours but then they assumed I was taking notes and drawing conclusions! (I knew what was said but had assumed they were in charge.)

Lordfrontpaw · 04/01/2020 18:45

Once when a woman standing next to me was mugged by two bastards on a moped with a gun.

They said they were very busy and it would be a while before they could attend.

I had to go but left my details (I took her into a hotel nearby and got them to give her a coffee and let her use a pc so she could cancel her phone). The police phoned me about 4 hours later to say that they had finally got around to her.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 04/01/2020 18:46

Four times.

Once for a teenager being beaten up outside our house.

Once when we came across a car accident on the way home at night. The car had gone through a hedge, fallen down 10 feet into a field and landed upside down; amazingly, the driver was fine, probably because he was completely drunk. Sadly he was a teenager and had nicked his mother's car, which he wasn't insured to drive, so that was going to get pretty nasty for him. He was also two entire counties away from where he thought he was.

Twice for cattle loose on main roads during rush hour.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 04/01/2020 18:46

sentimental not an unusual situation unfortunately. Flowers

BananaChocolateLump · 04/01/2020 18:46

Twice I think. Once when my ex sis in law had an epileptic fit.

Other time when my ex had taken an overdose
shouldnt have bothered

Futureplanning · 04/01/2020 18:47

3 times for ambulance.

First when I was 15 and witnessed a man drive in to a bus stop, he was having a heart attack.

Second when DS was 2, he suddenly went unresponsive with rolling eyes, high temp out of nowhere. He was fine in the end thankfully, just viral.

Third when my dad was choking, it went on for ages. It was a partial blockage, he was vomiting and gasping. Nothing was working, whilst on the phone I gave him another back slap and it shot out across the room, ambulance cancelled thank god.

As an aside please could I just recommend everyone read up/YouTube for choking, I have been involved in 4 very scary choking incidents and knowing a little bit about what to do, helped keep some control of the situation.

TheReef · 04/01/2020 18:47

Once, last year when my Mum fell over. She had dementia and broke her collar bone. She died a month later
