5 or 6 times for ambulance. I work as a carer in an independent living facility (i.e a care home with no nurses on site). The elderly can be very panicky about their health and we have a few chronic attention seekers. We're not allowed to refuse to dial 999 for a resident who asks us to, but we can encourage them to allow us to contact 111 instead. I phone 111 around twice a month.

I did once tell a gentleman that if he wanted 999 calling because his legs were itchy he'd have to call them himself. I passed him the phone and he promptly did call. 999 advised he called his GP the next morning. He put in an official complaint about myself, the other carer with me and the 999 call handler Hmm

Twice. 1yo DD ran into a door frame and got an enormous bump on her head. Total panic from me. Quickly followed by huge embarrassment when she shouted out Hello amblance!" as it pulled up outside house. (In my defense, she was my first and I was clueless).

Second time, 15 mins after my waters broke with dc3 and I realized things were happening rather quickly. Ambulance arrived 15 mins later, 2 mins after DC had been delivered by DH in the kitchen.

DismantleMe · 04/01/2020 18:48

8
7 times for asthmatic DS, once for DH when he got a deep cut in his arm and was bleeding profusely. He ended up with surgery for severed tendons.

eyeswideshit · 04/01/2020 18:49

Once when I was around 3, by accident.

As an adult I've called the police for a man with a gun, escaped animals on road and a man driving with a child on his lap. Ambulance I've called 5 times I think.

balletpanda · 04/01/2020 18:49

Please stop posting so many threads asking questions and fishing for information. You've been blocked before Confused

Longdistance · 04/01/2020 18:50

Twice.

Once for a lady who got run over by the car in front of me. And another time I’d seen a group of men having a vicious fight in the middle of the road in broad daylight.

BettyCrockaShit · 04/01/2020 18:51

Four times. Twice for group violence, once for a girl who collapsed in the street, and once for a little old man who had cut his head open on a dodgy bit of paving (no-one stopped, he didn't have a phone and was completely out of it). Ended up staying in touch with him via Christmas cards for some years!

PhantomErik · 04/01/2020 18:52

Three times.

1 & 2 - same day, my DDad had a heart attack when I was home alone with him. First ambulance arrived then asked me to call for another one. Horrible experience & has stayed with me (& had flashbacks from). Thankfully DDad is still with us over 20 years later!

3rd time a friend of a friend was attacked on the way home, he had a fractured jaw :(

inthekitchensink · 04/01/2020 18:54

Quite a lot, thinking about it!

  • Drunk driver when I was a teen cannoning into cars
  • When my dad collapsed once
  • A man hitting his wife & child repeatedly on Brighton pier
  • a burglar breaking into my flat
  • masonry falling onto a busy A road
  • traffic accident
  • abusive ex boyfriend who refused to leave my flat
  • mum collapsing
greenlavender · 04/01/2020 18:54

Never

inwood · 04/01/2020 18:55

Twice - once when I was six and our back garden was set on fire by hot ash from a bbq and second time was last year when my neighbours bonfire was out of control and set fire to the back of our garden.

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 04/01/2020 18:55

Once, to try and get an ambulance to my parents in Wales even though I was in England. After the initial confusion around what was required they were Absolutely Bloody Fantastic.

Mlou32 · 04/01/2020 18:56

Once, as I witnessed a break in happen in the house across the road. I think most people will be able to count on one hand the amount of times they've called 999 during their lifetime.

Spied · 04/01/2020 18:56

Health issues and subsequent health anxiety- so quite a few.
Ashamed to say many times not needed.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 04/01/2020 18:57

Yesterday the police witnessed a road rage incident and someone being strangled!

cheeseislife8 · 04/01/2020 18:59

Twice. Once for a chap who collapsed in the street, and another when I lived alone and someone tried to break in.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/01/2020 18:59

Three times, never for myself.

Two times were for the police, once when I saw a big fight outside a kebab shop and another time when my housemate was assaulted by her boyfriend.

Once for the fire brigade when I was walking down the street and saw there was a house on fire.

wolfmom · 04/01/2020 18:59

Once when I worked nights as one of the people I cared for had a stroke. I've been in an ambulance several times at the insistence of 111 though

Roxingaroundtheworld · 04/01/2020 19:00

8 times about

ohohohmerrychristmas · 04/01/2020 19:00

50+ .

My mum has a seizure disorder that’s very poorly controlled . Have been looking into alternatives but 9 times out of 10 I’m told to dial 999 ... or shops, businesses etc do it for me without checking .

I’ve done it that bloody often some of the call handlers recognise me and once asked me how uni was going !!!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 04/01/2020 19:01

Once, car broke down in a live lane just before an exit on the M62.

I was surprised they picked me up on the cameras straight away ,and got someone out to clear the car PDQ

Roomba · 04/01/2020 19:02
  • When a colleague had a heart attack and was struggling to breathe in agony (took over an hour to arrive).
  • When my son was accidentally badly scalded (there within what seemed like two minutes).
  • For a woman who had a fit in the street that didn't stop for 20 minutes.
  • When I had a serious house fire (all got out fine thank god).
  • When some kids set a massive pile of stuff in fire against a school wall as I walked past.
  • When a load of men got out of a taxi outside my flat and proceeded to beat a guy unconscious on the pavement.

That's just the times I remember!

ohohohmerrychristmas · 04/01/2020 19:02

The paramedics themselves are absolute heroes, they’ve never been a problem, they’re never cross or irritated with mum even if she is a ‘regular’

RIBlue · 04/01/2020 19:04

Once when I was in a multi car pile up, when they asked which service I wanted I said ‘all of them’ and the call handler didn’t know what to do and just kept repeating the question whilst I tried to explain that the road was blocked, people were hurt and people were trapped inside mashed up cars! It’s a bit hazy after that but I think they sent police who then called for ambulances who in turn called for a fire engine!

101 to report an elderly driver driving very slowly and erratically; 15mph in the dark on dual carriageways and cutting across roundabouts in all ways and from all lanes!

thismeansnothing · 04/01/2020 19:05

Twice at work. Diabetic clients deciding an afternoon gym session without eating all day would be a good idea.

Once at home earlier this year when my 10 day old stopped breathing. Absolutely terryfying
