Only once when I was about 8 for a bit of a joke.

OP posts:
CormoranStrike · 04/01/2020 19:38

Lots.

I’ve reported drink and drug drivers, reported a fire, during hurricane bawbag I reported a massive tree smashing down and blocking a main road, and have had an ambulance called for me twice. I didn’t do the calling, but dictated my instructions to my kids.

I also called the coastguard once - upturned boat just outside a harbour, thankfully nobody trapped but the boat owner should have registered it with the coastguard.

CormoranStrike · 04/01/2020 19:39

Oh, and once for a fight and once for a lone female in severe mental distress sat 2am out in the street and threatening self harm, it seemed the safest thing to do.

Millie2013 · 04/01/2020 19:41

Three times for FIL, once when he slipped on ice and twice when he choked (he had throat cancer at the time)
Once for my dear Dad, when he collapsed in the night 😢 Sadly, It was the beginning of the end (prematurely, he had an undiagnosed and rare condition 😢)

whiteroseredrose · 04/01/2020 19:41

Once when a boy ran into the side of my car when I was driving. Huge shock! He was actually fine.

CynthiaRothrock · 04/01/2020 19:43

More times than I care to remember. Coast guard when a child on a lilo was pulled too far away from shore, pissed parents hadn't even noticed.
Police when my drunk ex went missing or got violent. Police when a customer beat me and a member of staff up because we didn't sell what he wanted.
Police when a pissed up wanker pulled a knife on me- nearly got arrested myself because I had him restrained to the floor knife still in his hand but it was pointing towards himself, luckly the more experienced pc stopped the newbie, after I had been kicked to the ground and cuffed! Ambulance after several fights. (not me fighting BTW) ambulance and fire brigade after a near fatal crash.

Engard · 04/01/2020 19:44

1st time an old man was lying in the middle of the road screaming out in pain. Turns out he did it regularly and paramedics gave me a dressing down for calling them. How was I supposed to know????

2nd time I had to smash a pain of glass after my toddler shut me out the house with the latch on. I severely damaged my hand and lost ALOT of blood.

3rd and 4th was when my daughter had her first and subsequent seizure in which she stopped breathing.

itchity · 04/01/2020 19:45

So many times.
Alcoholic neighbours who have domestics every couple of weeks.
A car on fire.
Someone trying to break into the house over the road.
My DS when he had croup and was struggling to breathe at 3am.
A man walking in the middle of the motorway.
A couple of epileptic fits.
A drunk girl staggering in a dual carriage way.
Next door was being burgled in the middle of the night.
Husbands car window got smashed by someone drunk.
Drunk girl knocking on every door on the road at 4am trying to push her way in.
My abusive ex beating me up.
Think that’s about it!

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 04/01/2020 19:45

Three times, first when I was 13 and saw a woman being forced into a car. Two Christmases ago when I woman driver into my back corner on a round about and span me into oncoming traffic, she buckled my rear axle so the road was shit while I was recovered. Last summer dh and I were on the ring road and the car in front of us swerved from the left lane into the right as someone had climbed over the barrier and laid in the middle of the road.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 04/01/2020 19:47

Wow, few spelling errors there, feeding and typing, not the thing to do 😳
a woman drove into
Road was shut it still is a shit stretch of road

wineoclockthanks · 04/01/2020 19:48

Twice.
Once 35 years ago when we saw a crash between a car and a motorbike and once about 32 years ago when we saw a fire on a shed by a railway line.

upaladderagain · 04/01/2020 19:49

Once, when I saw a man climbing over the 6ft wall round ndn's house. Policeman turned up and it turned out the man was from the council (council house) and was working on something or other. Copper told me off for not asking the bloke who he was and for wasting police time. Arse.

SnugglySnerd · 04/01/2020 19:49

Once when dd had cut herself badly and it wouldn't stop bleeding. I thought I was overreacting but they took her in the ambulance to hospital.

Eminybob · 04/01/2020 19:50

3 times

Once when a colleague was having an epileptic fit

Once when my car had spun and was facing the wrong way in the middle of a 3 lane A road

And once when my mum had fallen in the park breaking her ankle and couldn’t move, while in sole charge of my 2 year old while I was 40 minutes away in a meeting. She called me instead of 999 as she isn’t local and had no idea of the name of the park/road etc she was on.

supercatlady · 04/01/2020 19:51

When my Mum died suddenly

When my son had a seizure aged 2.5 years

When my brother in law collapsed at home and we couldn’t get in

greathat · 04/01/2020 19:51

I got put through to 999 once when I called the non emergency police to report a swan on the dual carriageway. There was a lot of near misses go on!

Called 999 when Ds had a fit

And when I found someone unconscious in the street

Had one called by out of hours for Ds to move him to hospital when I took him in and his oxygen level was really low.

Had it called for me a couple of times, went through a phase where I was collapsing and no one knew why....

Love the NHS

Walnutwhipster · 04/01/2020 19:51

DH phoned them once for me because I was in so much pain he knew I couldn't move. I had a perforated bowel and very nearly died. My son carries epi pens and goes into anaphylaxis but I just jab him, and run. I can get to A&E before an ambulance could get to us. It astound me some of the reasons people ring an ambulance for.

Legoandloldolls · 04/01/2020 19:53

Around five times. Mostly about debris on the motorway ( think wheelbarrow, hedge etc) but once for a pedestrian being hit and thrown into the air. They took 15 minutes to come. Horrible. It was on my sisters mobile so was called as a witness as he was left in a wheelchair. The sound of the impact wasnt nice. I was surprised he didnt die.

CornishPorsche · 04/01/2020 19:53

Rather a lot. Ex copper, called in all sorts off duty.

Suspected drink drivers I report quite a lot I feel. At least a couple a year.

Old lady collapsed in a loo and stuck.

Violent domestic incidents in neighbouring houses at least a dozen times.

Once before I joined up when the fire exit door to our 3rd floor flat was being battered on. Scared the shit out of me at 3am. Turned out it was a chap I'd been shagging at uni trying his luck. Twat. The coppers thought it was hilarious though.

PurBal · 04/01/2020 19:54

Oh goodness, loads of times, too many to count.

Police for traffic accidents and dangers on the roads (yup, that bumper on the motorway is a 999 issue).

Marmite27 · 04/01/2020 19:54

Nice when my dad got glassed walking home from the pub over the road.

CornishPorsche · 04/01/2020 19:55

Oh, and my dad having a heart attack in my living room. A paramedic responded in less than 3mins. I was V impressed.

drspouse · 04/01/2020 19:57

I or DH have rung twice for DS having a fit (I really can't remember who rang and it may have been the friend we were with the second time). After that we just took him to A&E on foot or in the car as it was quicker.
Someone has rung for me twice when I've been knocked off my bike.
No fires and no police emergencies!

BikeRunSki · 04/01/2020 19:57

When I was 17 and cane home from school to find my dad passed out and jammed into the shower room. (He was tall, the room was tiny) - Police and ambulance
When I was about 21 I called mountain rescue - I was hillwalking in the Lake District and came across a man who’d had a heart attack.
Twice in the last 5 years or so, I’ve rung the police to say there were pedestrians walking on the motorway; once a child, once a very drunk or confused adult.
Just over a year ago - dd and I witnessed a car roll pulling a trailer roll off the motorway and into a ditch. The trailer stuck out into the carriageway. The car landed upside down. I was also concerned about the car bursting into flames. I called all 3 services.

BeyondMyWits · 04/01/2020 19:59

Once... for myself when I realised the pain I was feeling was actually a heart attack. I was walking and talking, but gradually it dawned on me... A very, very, VERY, lucky wake up call.

FREEM · 04/01/2020 19:59

twice once when someone jumped into a fast flowing river as it turns into an estuary.

another time when my husband connected the jump leads on wrong way around and the battery exploded
