Am I the only person in the world who didn't find Fleabag amazing?

Everyone I know raves about Fleabag but I've watched 3 episodes and just thought meh. It's not very funny to me. What am I missing?

And don't say a sense of humour 😂

There have been at least three threads on this, OP. Lots of people, me included, thought it was less than groundbreaking and overly pleased with itself.

It's like Miranda, you either get it or you don't. I don't

CharlotteMD · 02/01/2020 04:41

League of Gentlemen is another , just isn't funny.

Quirrelsotherface · 02/01/2020 07:58

I found it easy to watch and funny at times but not as unbelievably amazing as it thought it was.

Fairylea · 02/01/2020 08:00

It’s not necessarily meant to be hilarious. I actually cried at one episode Blush I loved it but I guess we all like different things. I saw a lot of myself in the character.

QueenofLouisiana · 02/01/2020 08:01

I liked the guinea pig!

AlaskaElfForGin · 02/01/2020 08:02

Fleabag is just like any other TV show - entirely subjective. I was late to it and loved it, especially series 2. Millions of people love Mrs Brown's Boys which I think is shite but I don't think I'm 'missing' something, it's just not my cup of tea. Some people like stuff while others don't.

brassbrass · 02/01/2020 08:04

Bits of it were amusing and I quite liked the stepmum character but it wasn't at all amazing and no idea what all the fuss was about. The asides to camera became a bit annoying and smug after a while. Meh.

AlaskaElfForGin · 02/01/2020 08:09

It's not a sitcom though. It's not (I don't think anyway) supposed to be hilariously funny every step of the way. There's a lot of thought provoking stuff in there too, as well as silly stuff.

yearinyearout · 02/01/2020 08:11

I wasn't fussed about it either. DH watched it and I saw bits of it/found it vaguely amusing, but it didn't have me hooked.

motorcyclenumptiness · 02/01/2020 09:17

It was ok and some of it was good - the sister was brilliantly cast and played. I much preferred Gameface which dealt with similar issues but in a less posh way.

Mulledwineinajug · 02/01/2020 09:19

I thought it was crap. Most rookie disagree. I love Miranda though!

Mulledwineinajug · 02/01/2020 09:19

Most people ffs, autocorrect!

MiseryChops · 02/01/2020 09:23

I’m with you. I watched 2 episodes (ok 1 and a half) to see what all the fuss was about and I didn’t even crack a smile.

I also don’t find Mrs Browns boys funny. Or Still Game. Or Gavin & Stacey. Amongst many others so maybe I’m just a tough crowd.

MyNewBearTotoro · 02/01/2020 09:24

I watched both series but I did feel I was missing something the whole time. Bits of it were funny/ thought provoking etc but it just didn’t quite feel complete to me, not sure if part of the reason I felt like that though was because it got such rave reviews and whilst I found it watchable I didn’t really get what the hype was about.

I much preferred Pure and This Way Up which had similar vibes but felt more relatable to me.

Foghead · 02/01/2020 09:25

I thought it was ok.
I’d watch it happily if it was on and there’s nothing else to watch, but I don’t choose to watch it. Given the choices of really good tv we have, there’s lots that is more entertaining to me.

MangoM · 02/01/2020 09:29

I really enjoyed Fleabag, but didn't think it was groundbreaking.

Similarly, with Gavin and Stacey. I watched it all but was massively underwhelmed and just never understood all the fuss.

Giggorata · 02/01/2020 09:46

I really enjoyed Fleabag but I am also glad to see the excellent and underrated Gameface get a mention.

MaJoady · 02/01/2020 10:00

For me it took until series 2 to really work. Series 1 relies too much on cringe and shock factor, but you also kind of need 1 for 2 iyswim.

By the end of series 2, I loved it and it builds so beautifully until the last episode.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 02/01/2020 10:04

I didn't enjoy the first few episodes of Fleabag but decided to persevere as I'd committed time to it. The central character was very unappealing to me to begin with but she becomes very sympathetic as time goes on and by the end I thought it was excellent. Cracking performances all round.

greenlavender · 02/01/2020 10:56

I thought it was ok, no more. I can think of much funnier programmes. I didn't get it really I guess.

FruityWidow · 02/01/2020 11:12

It's not about 'getting it'. I 'get it' but it's still not that great.

greenlavender · 02/01/2020 12:15

Well I understand it but don't understand why everyone finds it so funny. So on one level I feel there's something I'm not getting.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/01/2020 12:18

Thanks for reminding me to rewatch Gameface!
