This new decade I will... a thread for big but attainable goals

Run the London marathon. Currently a big fat couch potato who gets out of breath running for the bus, but I’ve lived near the route for two decades and it’s caught my imagination.

Write a book. Have never written anything longer than an essay, but have read a lot of books and thought, “I can do better.” Let’s see if I can.

Get new letters before or after my name (not including Mrs, although staying married is definitely at the top of my unwritten list).

What are your big goals for the new decade? (Let’s limit them to three year to encourage prioritisation and actually achieving them).

Get a job in France.

Speak fluent French. Currently at intermediate level, enough to do a McJob if I get one.

Start a blog.

I like the idea of a three year time horizon. Any less is too little for ambitious projects, any more and your plans get overtaken by events.

Dowser · 29/12/2019 19:11

Finish writing the book of my life for my grandchildren
I don’t have many decades left
So had better get cracking

BooseysMom · 29/12/2019 19:15

@Ambrose2.. very true. I have it all to come and with one DC it will be hard as he's my only and i'm totally besotted! He's only 6 though so a few years away yet. Good luck x

Build our business successfully
Pay off mortgage (rather tied in with the above!)
Still be running regularly & maintain my hard-won fitness

Actually, I realise that a lot of what I want is to keep going on my current track - which must mean that I am / family are doing pretty well right now.

I pray that we have strength to weather whatever 'events' befall us in the next decade.

Lose some weight

Do a bit of gardening every day to get on top of it

Learn a new bellringing method

Try to get a handle on my anxiety about my husband's cancer because worrying doesn't cure it, and the anxiety is impacting on my health

I think that'll do Smile

YearofMisAdventure · 29/12/2019 19:38

Meet partner and have a family (and I turn 40 next year). I think that's got to be the biggest one for me. Everything else is window dressing!

Learn to drive.

Grow a back bone and leave my emotionally absuive husband.

I've always wanted to learn to play the flute.

Danielradcliffesperfectarse · 29/12/2019 20:27

1.Make a decision about my marriage rather than aimlessly struggle on, feeling like I'm missing out on proper love and affection (I know I am but fear of the unknown and fear of hurting others is holding me back)
2.Run a marathon in the next 3 years
3.Start my business
4.finish work on our house so it's ready to either live in or sell..
5.Grow two happy humans who have a good view of healthy relationships and don't grow up thinking mum have to do it all and work full time or that dad's are silent and just go out to work and marriage is about just Co existing with little affection... (see point 1 above 😬)

CheddarCheesy · 29/12/2019 20:29

Get married.
Have two children.
Complete Candy Crush.

SarahAndQuack · 29/12/2019 20:40

If we are sticking to three, I am going to try my best to:

  • buy my own first home.
  • have a baby
  • get a professorship (this is unlikely!).

If we're having more than three, I'll include the more practical goals:

  • get a permanent job
  • write my second and third books
  • publish some creative writing.

My 3 things are

Pay off the mortgage (c.9 years away)

Improve my career somehow/stop hating so much of my job
