This new decade I will... a thread for big but attainable goals

Run the London marathon. Currently a big fat couch potato who gets out of breath running for the bus, but I’ve lived near the route for two decades and it’s caught my imagination.

Write a book. Have never written anything longer than an essay, but have read a lot of books and thought, “I can do better.” Let’s see if I can.

Get new letters before or after my name (not including Mrs, although staying married is definitely at the top of my unwritten list).

What are your big goals for the new decade? (Let’s limit them to three year to encourage prioritisation and actually achieving them).

OP posts:

Hmmm...
Get DD through secondary school and uni (god, in 10 years time my DD would be a proper grown up!!!!!!!)

Pay off my mortgage.

Get to know and look after myself better :)

SinkGirl · 29/12/2019 17:32
  • Finally figure out what is wrong with my health and get my life back (it’s been over a decade so I’m not hopeful!)
  • Help my twins learn to talk (not guaranteed but will do my best!)
  • Learn to drive
MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/12/2019 17:47

Be fitter and healthier at 50 than I was at 30 (currently 46 and a half 😁)

Do at least 15 mins of yoga a day (as per above goal)

Change my career

Move to Scotland

Consume less (both in terms of food and in terms of 'stuff')

ChristmasCroissant · 29/12/2019 17:50

Go back to work, I have some training and a very part-time job lined up in the new year to help with this.

I've had places in the London Marathon through the ballot, go for OP! You won't regret it, it is a fantastic experience!

Hellokittymania · 29/12/2019 17:59

I want to get my degree.

JewelTheft · 29/12/2019 18:06

Pay off a financial debt
Lose 2 stone
Run 5km (currently not a runner) and make the time to run regulalry each week after achieving this.
Sort out all the crap in the garage and sell it / take to charity shop or recycling centre
Sort out anxiety and stress issues, which I am hoping all of the above will help with.

Good luck to everyone in achieving your goals

MrsAgassi · 29/12/2019 18:14

Running based goal for me as well.

I think I want to run a marathon at some point, but my first goal is to enjoy running rather than just the feeling I get afterwards. I’m very new to it, but find every run a struggle.

I would like to continue my weight loss and enjoy healthy eating.

My biggest hope is that my elderly parents enjoy good health and are still with me for the next decade. Terrified of having to say goodbye to them.

Get a masters in cyber security

Get a good job that pays salary (£25k +) rather than minimum wage.

Buy a house - Not sure this last one will be attainable but I will keep trying.

ConfusedAndStressed95 · 29/12/2019 18:40

That only takes me to 2021 but I don't want to think too far into the future because anything further is terrifyingly large to think about.

I'd like to finish the book I'm writing for my mother, save for a mortgage, save generally, get married, have a baby and get a good graduate job and a pet.

Which are all rather large goals.

Ambrose2 · 29/12/2019 18:42

My kids will be teens and tweens by then so my aims are to do all that I can to raise them to be good, happy healthy people and to be the best, happiest and healthiest I can be because I want them to have a good role model, and to never have to worry that I wouldn't cope or be happy without them. I want them to leave home knowing that I have my own life. As a single parent it can be easy to put everything into your kids at the detriment of yourself but then you end up with major empty nest syndrome. I don't want to be in that position. So it's about building me and them.

MercuryRising · 29/12/2019 18:43

Get married, buy a house, get promoted, lose 2 stone and run a marathon. All achievable with focus 😁

glitteringfishy · 29/12/2019 18:43

Gingernaut · 29/12/2019 18:44

Relearn French

Lose about 3.5 stones

Bed down and get into my new job

Get on top of my house - the repairs and maintenance jobs are piling up.

Save money - I have a goal of £20,000, but every time I start, the house rears its ugly head. This time it's the guttering.

WwfLeopard · 29/12/2019 19:07
