Anyone else feel lost when they finish whatever show they're binge watching?

Been thoroughly enjoying rewatching ER on all4, final season drops tomorrow and based on last week I'll have watched it all by Monday.

I've even gone back to the beginning to watch again and am back up to season 7 for 2nd time but feeling the familiar restlessness that I do when coming to the end of a "binge".

I struggle to find things I like to watch, been watching a bit of madam secretary too but not finding it as compelling.

Tried supernatural too but not finding that as entertaining as I thought I would (in theory should be right up my street as a horror and charmed fan)

I end up often going back and rewatching for like the millionth time old favourites (charmed, friends, lie to me, white collar...)

I like "drama" but nothing too intense or upsetting, some humour but not necessarily comedies.

I'm getting off topic...

Am I the only one who's stomach sinks when they know they have to track down something else worth watching?

"Normal" tv I find pretty dull these days, mostly repeats and "scripted reality" crap or poor quality documentaries...

Can't remember the last time there was something on normal tv in terms of properly scripted pieces I really enjoyed - bodyguard maybe?

Periodically I'll check the TV guide to see what's on and it's all shite!

I have Netflix and prime video plus of course the catch up services but it's older stuff i tend to watch on those.

What is this weirdness?

Thanks thenightsky, I'll try a few more episodes then!

Season 3 of This is Us is on Amazon Prime on Boxing Day. I need to re-watch seasons 1 and 2 first though... I watch SO much that nearly always need to do a re-watch when new seasons drop as I've always forgotten how things ended!

I know what you mean about This is Us though... it's emotional.

I feel like that too. I hate it when I find something I really like, and there's only one season, because I know I'll be sad when it's over. I also hate watching something as it's aired, as I know I can only watch one episode a week!

I have recently discovered Supernatural, and I absolutely love it. So, the fact that there's 15 seasons fills me with utter joy - and it's still coming out, too! My partner and I watch that together, so watch on average two episodes most days, but sometimes only one.

We also love Elementary, and that's got lots of seasons and is still airing, too, so that's great.

Another one we're into is "Evil", but that's being aired now, so we're having to be patient on that front.

As much as I get a little bit sad when I finish a series I love, I'm equally excited to find something .. although it sometimes takes me a little bit of time to find something that's really amazing rather than just watchable.

My partner and I always have a couple of things on the go that we watch together, and then things we watch alone too when one of us is out. His alone ones at the moment are Titans and See, and I'm watching The Crown (and also watch some soaps, which keeps me busy).

Maybe we're a bit sad, but we love our quality time watching shows, particularly when we have our takeaway Saturdays - which we've not been able to do for a while as we've been out!

SunshineAngel · 21/12/2019 12:15

I would also recommend getting an Amazon Firestick and getting rid of Prime and Netflix. No need to pay a monthly subscription when you can get everything for a one off payment of about £40!

MargotMoon · 21/12/2019 12:22

For those who loved Breaking Bad I am a few eps into Better Call Saul and IT IS BRILLIANT. Far exceeding my expectations

MargotMoon · 21/12/2019 12:23

@SunshineAngel But you still need to log in to Netflix and Prime to use them on the fire stick? So you need a subscription

@MargotMoon Nope, there are plenty of apps you can get for it where you can get TV shows and movies subscription free :). YouTube tutorials for how to install APKs.

SunshineAngel · 21/12/2019 13:10

@MargotMoon I can get literally everything from Prime and Netflix, plus all Sky channels, for a one off fee, and would never go back to subscription TV now.

helpfulperson · 21/12/2019 13:57

What i find difficult is when i finish one series, move onto another and the same actors pop up. I finished Brooklyn 99 and am now watching the good place. I dont know the actors name but cute boyfriend to evil demon is messing with my head :-)

f00k · 21/12/2019 14:30

I'm going to give This Is Us a go. I've wanted to watch it but had no idea it was on Prime. I hardly ever look on there. Will give it a watch this evening Smile

RetreatingWeasels · 21/12/2019 14:38

Yes, worse though is watching the last episode and not realising it's the LAST episode! This has been happening to me a lot.

We did this yesterday with The Society. Had a WTF moment then realised that was the last episode Sad

peachypetite · 21/12/2019 14:45

How to get away with murder on Netflix - I got totally addicted

onyourway · 21/12/2019 14:59

I feel like that every time I finish a season of Bonus Family.....

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2019 15:02

Yes. I’m a total binge watcher.

I was late to both The West Wing and Greys Anatomy so was able to binge watch TWW from beginning to end and about 13 seasons of GA. each time I was really sad when I got to the end.

Am looking for something new now.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2019 15:06

Is Virgin River a bit Gilmore Girls in style? Might try that.

Think will watch Better Call Saul next as never seen it and I loved Breaking Bad.

Want to watch ER again from the beginning and also have never watched The Sopranos.

Newdadtogirl · 21/12/2019 15:17

I dont like watching the endings either, proper gutted afterwards... empty is a good way of putting it. I do love a good box set binge... here are a few of my faves!

I've seen all ER episodes about 5 times, I'm not sure, but I think this actually qualifies me to be a surgeon!

The worst last episode ever was on a series called "Six Foot Under" the last 10 minutes of the last episode was the most depressing thing I've ever seen! Proper upsetting!

"The West Wing" is awesome, typicall Sorkin, can be slow, but you'll end up understanding American Government. Also has hundreds of episodes, so takes a while.

Best series ever is "The Sopranos" it is superb, well written and wonderfully acted. The last episode is the most annoying ever, WTF actually happens???

For comedy, I don't like anything, except for "The Office" (British version), Gavin and Stacey and "Marion and Geoff" - if you like non mainstream comedy these are all excellent. Marion and Geoff is special!

hoochymamgu · 21/12/2019 15:45

Oh what a great thread Grin

Just on to say if you like Parks and rec, Brooklyn 99 is well worth a look, the characters start off shallow and get deeper iykwim almost at the end..agree about 'palate cleanser' looking for my next binge Blush

Radardodgingninga · 21/12/2019 15:50

I rarely watch the last episode of a series I love (West Wing, The Sopranos, Buffy, Gilmore Girls) because I can’t bear the thought that there is no more to look forward to. I am not good with endings and good byes generally.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/12/2019 15:54

It’s such a shame that most shows have a dire last season or two.

I’ve still not forgiven Lost. Even ER went downhill and Greys Anatomy has been very ropey.

Think I might rewatch Desperate Housewives as well, I’m fairly sure I missed a couple of seasons in the middle.

DowntonCrabby · 21/12/2019 15:55

Unforgotten on Netflix is great for those mourning line of duty and Luther.

Graphista · 21/12/2019 17:17

Yes I’m not really about scenery or horses I prefer interesting often flawed characters and strong storylines, cliffhangers twists that kinda thing.

@normalouisebates - thanks for that info (how do you know? I never know this stuff!) I’ll make a note.

I’m the same with having to remind myself. I will have to watch how to get away with murder probably from the beginning before watching new season, but that is a very convoluted show anyway.

Less complicated shows I’ll watch last few episodes of the previous season to remind me.

But yes This is us is a tough one, cathartic but utterly draining.

f00k - be warned and stock up on tissues! I’m a hard faced cow at times and don’t generally cry easily at tv/film but this show wrecks me! I wouldn’t recommend watching more than 2 episodes at a go unless you’re very stoic.

“I hate it when I find something I really like, and there's only one season” I need something to have at least 3 seasons really. I seem to “jinx” things as the ones I really like end up bloody cancelled! Lie to me, travellers, fringe... so annoying

Had a fire stick at one point but telly bust and can’t replace right now. But fire stick is merely the hardware you still need to have subscriptions to the services unless it’s massively changed since I got it? I’m not sure your setup is legal?

Crappy series finales are the worst! Looking at you how I met your mother! Don’t even get me started on heroes!

Where is desperate housewives available? I LOVED that show.

You're correct OP the APK Apps are basically like the BitTorrent of old. Piracy. Often poor quality, Chinese subtitles, bad buffering, missing episodes, that type of thing.

I'd rather be legit.

Graphista · 21/12/2019 17:52

I'd rather be legit too - with my luck I'd get caught anyway

But also I don't agree with theft of artists product. Artists aren't generally well paid and careers short lived.

People think they're all on mega money but I actually know people in the entertainment industry (both performers and "backstage" people) and the vast majority are not well paid and theft of this kind really impacts them.

If we want good quality shows/films/music to continue to be made we have to treat the industry fairly
