Anyone else feel lost when they finish whatever show they're binge watching?

Been thoroughly enjoying rewatching ER on all4, final season drops tomorrow and based on last week I'll have watched it all by Monday.

I've even gone back to the beginning to watch again and am back up to season 7 for 2nd time but feeling the familiar restlessness that I do when coming to the end of a "binge".

I struggle to find things I like to watch, been watching a bit of madam secretary too but not finding it as compelling.

Tried supernatural too but not finding that as entertaining as I thought I would (in theory should be right up my street as a horror and charmed fan)

I end up often going back and rewatching for like the millionth time old favourites (charmed, friends, lie to me, white collar...)

I like "drama" but nothing too intense or upsetting, some humour but not necessarily comedies.

I'm getting off topic...

Am I the only one who's stomach sinks when they know they have to track down something else worth watching?

"Normal" tv I find pretty dull these days, mostly repeats and "scripted reality" crap or poor quality documentaries...

Can't remember the last time there was something on normal tv in terms of properly scripted pieces I really enjoyed - bodyguard maybe?

Periodically I'll check the TV guide to see what's on and it's all shite!

I have Netflix and prime video plus of course the catch up services but it's older stuff i tend to watch on those.

What is this weirdness?

I have Now TV which often has Sky Drama but is way cheaper.

Graphista · 20/12/2019 02:29

Haven't seen the west wing yet no would love to.

I try and resist buying stuff as I'm already paying subs for the 2 services and tv licence. But I did treat myself to buying charmed (got vouchers for birthday).

I watch through tablet mostly don't think I can get nowtv on that?

If you can get broadband, you can now TV? Assuming you’re in the UK.

Graphista · 20/12/2019 20:05

Yes I'm in uk but kindle fire tablet which doesn't support nowtv as yet. Must be a corporate rivalry thing, also annoying that I can't buy kindle books on iPhone!

But I have prime and Netflix plus the catchup apps which SHOULD be plenty - I'm just an awkward fussy bugger Grin

I've just binge watched Harlan Coben's Safe on Netflix which then led me to Paranoid. Recommend both. I loved Bones too but watched that conventionally episode at a time.

I get like this, it's a bit embarrassing really. I get so invested when I really love something... when it's finished I find myself googling the show to see what others have thought of it. Reddit is good for that.

Some things that I really loved, that haven't already been mentioned:

How to get away with murder
This is us
The vampire diaries and the originals
Homeland
Grace & Frankie
9-1-1
Breaking Bad

Greys Anatomy is wonderful, one of my most favourite shows.

Graphista · 20/12/2019 21:18

How to get away with murder is one of my favourites too but requires a LOT of concentration which I can't always manage (health issues and meds)

Breaking bad I don't even want to run because of the premise - I have personal reasons for that

This is us I also love but find it SO draining have to be in right mood for it and can only manage one episode at a time looking forward to new season coming though - anyone know when it hits uk?

I’m the same but my watch list isn’t as classy - I’m reliving my youth Blush I have just re-watched all of The Vampire Diaries Gilmore Girls and The OC and have just started One Tree Hill (although I had forgotten how many seasons there were of that!!) I’ve seen that Ian Somerolder is promoting a new show but I quite like the comfort of rewatching things I’ve already seen ...

CheesePleaseLoueese · 20/12/2019 21:33

Felt this way when "Detectorists" ended...

Northernsoullover · 20/12/2019 21:37

My biggest binge fests were The Affair and Line of Duty. I didn't watch any episodes before last year so had an awful lot of catch up to do. I was gutted when I became up to date.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 20/12/2019 21:38

I've just signed up for a free months trial of Britbox. Currently binge watching jimmy McGovern's Cracker on my iPad. My God its every bit as brilliant as I remember.

AuntieMarys · 20/12/2019 21:39

I was bereft when Boardwalk Empire ended . Richard Sad

BikeRunSki · 20/12/2019 21:40

OP, 2 years on, I am still mourning the end of The Detectorists, which is discovered shortly before the third series was broadcast and the first 2 series were put on iPlayer in preparation.

BikeRunSki · 20/12/2019 21:41

Hi Five in sympathy to@CheesePleaseLoueese.

Sorry, Hi Five in sympathy to @CheesePleaseLoueese.

FlashingFedora · 20/12/2019 21:45

Yes, worse though is watching the last episode and not realising it's the LAST episode! This has been happening to me a lot.

BikeRunSki · 20/12/2019 21:50

DS (11) has recently discovered this feeling, by finishing his favourite series of books ever (Artemis Fowl). What he doesn’t know l, is that a spin off book was published last month and Father Christmas paid a trip to Waterstones yesterday...., he may not believe in Father Christmas, but a mum’s got to take every opportunity she can to sprinkle a bit of magic once the dc stop believing.

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 22:04

Can I ask @AllAboutHallowsEve about anything really special on BritBox?

At the moment the adverts are really uninspiring like I really don't need to watch tired old things that are always repeated, vintage sitcoms

Eg Porridge, Dads Army, Only Fools

Don't want to know, don't care, boring

But if it was majority stuff like :

Cracker and other proper dramas I'd be a lot more interested

CheesePleaseLoueese · 20/12/2019 22:12

@BikeRunSki - still weeping... But roll on Mackenzie Crook's Worzel Gummidge over the festive period!! Smile

AllAboutHallowsEve · 20/12/2019 22:19

I've uploaded some images from BritBox. Lots of bbc and ITV thrillers and dramas, as well as classic comedies.

Yes, I binge watched all three series of The Crown and felt bereft at the end of each.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 20/12/2019 22:20

Some more from BritBox.

You need to watch the West Wing!

I feel like this too. I get really involved with the characters somehow and feel strange when it's over. I felt the same about books from an early age, I remember making up more storylines in my head to continue them. Blush
