Anyone else feel lost when they finish whatever show they're binge watching?

Been thoroughly enjoying rewatching ER on all4, final season drops tomorrow and based on last week I'll have watched it all by Monday.

I've even gone back to the beginning to watch again and am back up to season 7 for 2nd time but feeling the familiar restlessness that I do when coming to the end of a "binge".

I struggle to find things I like to watch, been watching a bit of madam secretary too but not finding it as compelling.

Tried supernatural too but not finding that as entertaining as I thought I would (in theory should be right up my street as a horror and charmed fan)

I end up often going back and rewatching for like the millionth time old favourites (charmed, friends, lie to me, white collar...)

I like "drama" but nothing too intense or upsetting, some humour but not necessarily comedies.

I'm getting off topic...

Am I the only one who's stomach sinks when they know they have to track down something else worth watching?

"Normal" tv I find pretty dull these days, mostly repeats and "scripted reality" crap or poor quality documentaries...

Can't remember the last time there was something on normal tv in terms of properly scripted pieces I really enjoyed - bodyguard maybe?

Periodically I'll check the TV guide to see what's on and it's all shite!

I have Netflix and prime video plus of course the catch up services but it's older stuff i tend to watch on those.

What is this weirdness?

Only the small minority get so much and usually not the writers...

£18 million pound for Ellen Pompeo for I think to stay two years was obscene

However I believe she justified it by showing how much money Greys has made Disney.

Yes there's huge disparity in the industry too.

But some people think that the huge amounts some get mean others are well paid too but an awful lot are minimum wage and short contracts - they're not paid while not filming and there's a lot of uncertainty too.

There's no guarantee of longevity of career and even the most popular tv shows can end up cancelled for completely unforeseen reasons.

Hell whole tv channels can go bust with little notice or collapse due to a scandal.

PrivateSpidey · 21/12/2019 21:35

Graphista Living With Yourself (or is it Myself?! Can't remember now!) on Netflix is good, I found I very binge-worthy! I think there are only 6 episodes though, so sadly short-lived, but I enjoyed it. Paul Rudd and Aisling Bea are both great in it.

I get you though, completely, about being bereft when a series has finished. I've been doling out episodes of The Crown to myself to try and spin it out as long as possible because I dread it finishing! Same with books as PPs have said.

VanyaHargreeves · 21/12/2019 21:39

Oh @Graphista the previous poster mentions Fargo

Fargo is that series that no one seems to talk about that is so brilliant and so overlooked.

It's about the criminal underbelly in small town snowy isolated communities it's done as an anthology but the stories all connect.

Season 1 - Martin Freeman is the "Star Turn" as a perpetual loser type but is massively upstaged by both Alison Tolman and Colin Hanks

Season 2 may be the best single season of anything I've ever watched it's brilliant.
Kirsten Dunst is the "Star Turn" but basically everyone in it is absolutely doing their best work

Season 3 has Ewan McGregor as the "Star Turn" playing twins but is massively upstaged by David Thewlis being creepy.

Everyone needs to watch Fargo!

Advert over.

GetRid · 21/12/2019 22:21

Try Six Feet Under - a few years old now but brilliant.

Graphista · 21/12/2019 23:08

@inthekitchensink I also liked the resident but have now cancelled my subscription to the platform I watched that on as I only watched that really and was going through a tight time money wise but I might join it again.

For the people is on my list though I’m not really sure what it’s about

The rookie I’d like to see but don’t know where it’s available, tried watching absentia which is stana Katic’s new show but couldn’t get into it

Scorpion I love even though it’s nonsense but last season was shite

The good witch and Derry girls on my list

Stranger things, lucifer and californication I’ve already watched

@privatespidey that’s on my list too I do like Paul Rudd

Fargo - I absolutely LOVED the film and I’m worried the series will wreck that? I’m also not really a fan of Colin hanks

6 feet under I watched a few episodes first time around but it’s another I “should” love but wasn’t really feeling it, ditto Dexter

I know what you mean about Colin Hanks

He is great in this

Similarities to the film, pays homage, goes its own way.

JockTamsonsBairns · 22/12/2019 01:22

Oh, I'm like this. I finished watching Prison Break two years ago, and I'm still in mourning. It's strange, I feel like I can't give anything else a chance, as I'm just not convinced I'll enjoy it as much.
I'm another who wonders what the characters are up to when I'm not watching. As a pp said, it's the benchmark of a great series!
