Anyone else feel lost when they finish whatever show they're binge watching?

Been thoroughly enjoying rewatching ER on all4, final season drops tomorrow and based on last week I'll have watched it all by Monday.

I've even gone back to the beginning to watch again and am back up to season 7 for 2nd time but feeling the familiar restlessness that I do when coming to the end of a "binge".

I struggle to find things I like to watch, been watching a bit of madam secretary too but not finding it as compelling.

Tried supernatural too but not finding that as entertaining as I thought I would (in theory should be right up my street as a horror and charmed fan)

I end up often going back and rewatching for like the millionth time old favourites (charmed, friends, lie to me, white collar...)

I like "drama" but nothing too intense or upsetting, some humour but not necessarily comedies.

I'm getting off topic...

Am I the only one who's stomach sinks when they know they have to track down something else worth watching?

"Normal" tv I find pretty dull these days, mostly repeats and "scripted reality" crap or poor quality documentaries...

Can't remember the last time there was something on normal tv in terms of properly scripted pieces I really enjoyed - bodyguard maybe?

Periodically I'll check the TV guide to see what's on and it's all shite!

I have Netflix and prime video plus of course the catch up services but it's older stuff i tend to watch on those.

What is this weirdness?

I've done some scanning and whilst there's stuff on there it's stuff that I can get elsewhere right now.

The ones that I did go 👀 at were :

Ballykissangel

and

Band Of Gold - 90s teen years Grin

It would need to improve for me

Stuff I'd like to see on there. The one were Robson Green has an affair with his bosses wife

The one were a woman has an affair with David Morrissey

All the Jimmy Mcgoverns

Our Friends In The North etc

I mean, who the F is crying out for every episode of 8 out of 10 cats ConfusedGrin

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 22:35

I bought The West Wing on Prime as my DVDs were never returned

It was pricey

It's so good though

TitchyP · 20/12/2019 22:39

Currently on season 4 (out of 7) of 'Orange is The New Black' and already dreading it finishing!

Also dragging out season 3 of The Crown

This is Us - on Amazon - is brilliant too

Britbox is apparently available on prime as a "channel"

I've seen this channel thing when I've been browsing titles but I don't understand how it works - anyone able to explain in simple terms for me?

I LOVED cracker back in the day and a lot of those other titles I liked too.

I generally prefer American stuff though it's just so much better quality and there's more of it.

Uk stuff isn't as well made certainly now, and the series length/amount of episodes made is tiny in comparison.

Easily most of the time USA series are 20+ episodes long so you really get a good chance to "get into" them.

Dd loved orange is the new black but I couldn't get into it and even she said it got very samey after first couple of seasons.

She loved vampire diaries and has a huge crush on Ian somerhalder - he's closer in age to me! Grin

Thoughts on sleepy hollow?

"Channels"

Be careful when clicking it means you can watch on Firestick but you pay more.

thenightsky · 20/12/2019 23:15

I know you say you are not too keen on UK stuff and prefer US, but have you sought out Happy Valley? There are two seasons.

Line of Duty is also brilliant.

Knickersinonehand · 20/12/2019 23:21

Had insomnia and started watching Damages with Glen Close from around 3am-5am. Absolutely loved it but finished it all in a couple of weeks, of course then couldn't find anything as good so started staring at the ceiling in the dark.

thenightsky · 20/12/2019 23:29

Ooh... like the sound of Damages!

Llareggub · 20/12/2019 23:30

Halt and Catch Fire on Prime is excellent, and rarely mentioned.

Moominfan · 20/12/2019 23:35

Have you tried madmen op?

When I'm halfway through the last series of a show, I find another one in advance. It softens the blow if I'm already invested in another show. Rather then finishing and then having to find something.

SarahTancredi · 20/12/2019 23:45

I've found my people Grin

I never know what to do with myself. And I always worry I wont enjoy the next one. I loved x files and buffy and prison break. I researched prison break as soon as I finished iti just couldnt bare having to find something else.Blush I recently did smallville. But that's finished so back to square one again

Graphista · 20/12/2019 23:55

This is what worries me about the "channels" unexpected costs.

Must admit fancy trying 30 rock next maybe even though not a comedy fan.

What's halt and catch fire about?

Where's damages? I tried watching that first time round and I think it was nicked by sky/virgin?

Mad men - another I SHOULD have loved but couldn't get into

Thought of another - I loved Broadchurch and there is an American re-write where David Tennant is still cast as the main detective. I was hooked and doing the compare & contrast added an extra dimension . The American version is Gracepoint and I won't tell you how faithfully they stick to the script to avoid spoilers. Think it's available on Prime

thenightsky · 20/12/2019 23:57

I'm still mourning Breaking Bad. Sad

Tillygetsit · 20/12/2019 23:58

Dh and I are odd. We rarely watch series when they're on but binge watch afterwards. I always feel so sad when good ones end. We loved
How to get away with murder
Grimm (daft but fun)
Happy Valley
Line of Duty
Breaking Bad
Luther
Killing Eve
Currently watching Undercover which is just brilliant.

daffyducked · 21/12/2019 00:00

Stranger things is very good!
And black mirror

f00k · 21/12/2019 00:28

I felt like this a few months ago when I finished Gilmore Girls. I'll definitely rewatch it one day.

Mad Men is brilliant. A slow sort of show but I was completely immersed in the characters. I wanted to watch their world forever.

Catastrophe is fantastic.

I really got into the first few episodes of The Vampire Diaries recently and initially thought it'd be my new binge but my attention started to wander while watching. It's very cheesy. But it should be my kind of thing. I love horror and weirdness. I feel like I should love it but I don't feel desperate to watch more of it when an episode finishes.

Starksforthewin · 21/12/2019 01:39

OP, I know it’s old school but do you have a DVD player?

Lots of libraries lend DVDs now and I saw the whole box set of West Wing in mine recently. Just another way to make your viewing cheaper!

I suffer from insomnia so rely heavily on tv and I totally understand how rotten it is when you finish a box set.

Graphista · 21/12/2019 03:37

Also insomniac - have you seen the times I post?! Grin

Sadly no DVD player haven't had one for years now.

Also housebound so couldn't get to library for physical media anyway.

Starksforthewin · 21/12/2019 08:24

Sorry not to be more helpful, but I do hope you manage to find West Wing. In my view, the finest tv series ever. I rewatch at least once a year.

GlitchStitch · 21/12/2019 11:04

Has anyone watched Ozark on Netflix? I watched the first couple of episodes on Netflix as it should be the sort of thing I like (love Power, The Wire etc) but it's really not gripping me. Wondering whether to carry on or not.

PuppyMonkey · 21/12/2019 11:11

I’ve been utterly bereft since finishing Succession (it was on Now TV) - nothing else comes close to its brilliance imho.

Although I’m going to start The Witcher tonight on Netflix...

squashyhat · 21/12/2019 11:17

@Graphista you might enjoy Heartland on Netflix. Completely undemanding but very watchable series about a Canadian ranch. 12 series and the 13th should drop soon. Beautiful scenery, horses and family dramas. I'm on my second watch and have had to take a break (with Virgin River) to stop me binging 24/7!

thenightsky · 21/12/2019 11:23

@GlitchStitch I found Ozark worth carrying on with and it grows on you so you end up watching two episodes back to back. Like you, I wasn't sure during the first couple of episodes. I've never got round to Season 2 though, for some reason.
