Meant critics, not crocs!

lovemenorca · 20/12/2019 16:37

Those that have seen.... boring? Odd? What makes it so bad?!

FruitcakeOfHate · 20/12/2019 16:41

I'm going to go see it tomorrow. I'm going to watch the dancing. I love the film Grease 2 as well!

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/12/2019 16:42

Not boring and not bad. I suppose odd because on stage its noticeably humans with painted faces but on screen they're more like weird human-cat hybrids because of the CGI. And the way Francesca Hayward walked made me think she was in desperate need of a wee! She danced beautifully though.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/12/2019 16:43

@FruitcakeOfHate If you're going purely for the dancing then you won't be disappointed. The choreography is the star of the film.

mummyrocks1 · 20/12/2019 16:45

The reviews I have read say it's excellent

ZenNudist · 20/12/2019 16:47

I was looking forward to it. Posting in case theres any proper mumsnetters reviews soon.

happycamper11 · 20/12/2019 16:49

*Only reason was I thought something I could watch with the children and get a semblance of enjoyment out of it myself.

Frozen 2 here we come!*

Go to see jumanji- fab. I also enjoyed frozen 2 tbh, far better than the first. Cats looks terrifying from the trailer.

lovemenorca · 20/12/2019 16:50

@mummyrocks1

Please point us in the direction of one!!

Agree the stage show is shocking. We only stayed for the second half because I wanted to hear memories! Totally plotless

I always thought everyone else loved it - so glad to hear I am not alone. I am an avid theatre-goer, but was only stopped from walking out from the stage show by the astronomical price of the tickets and the mistaken belief that it had to get better in the second half - the couple next to us made a better decision and left at the interval. I saw it in the 80s and it remains the worst show I have ever seen at the West End. I won't be bothering with the film despite the excellent cast.

Quirrelsotherface · 20/12/2019 17:19

Am I the only person in the world who thought the trailer looked ace and am excited about seeing it then?

Nope, me too. I adore the music and always have done so will definitely be going. I do think Cats is a bit more niche though and not sure it will appeal to a mainstream audience.

Case in point on this thread, with folk describing it as creepy or that it's weird that the female dancers have their boobs showing Xmas Hmm

It's very much based on the stage show, dancers wearing leotards so they can actually, y'know, dance. Had they used effects to make them into actual cats it would have looked a damn sight more weird!!

Also the fuss about FH playing a white cat but that is the role, a cat with white fur!

Seems people had it in for this production from day one, which is a shame.

Quirrelsotherface · 20/12/2019 17:22

@FruitcakeOfHate grease 2 is an absolute classic Xmas Grin

TheNameGames · 20/12/2019 17:29

@FruitcakeOfHate

Grease 2 is WAY better than Grease!

FruitcakeOfHate · 20/12/2019 17:30

Quirrel we are a rare breed, we Grease 2 lovers! I was once in a car, driven by a friend, her best mate in the front passenger seat and my daughter, driving friend's husband and I in the back on a 4 hour journey. My friend started humming along and, recognising it, I broke into song! She and her best mate were thrilled! Her poor husband was shaking his head, mumbling, 'FML! They found another Grease 2 fan!' We bellowed the whole soundtrack on the road. It was great!

'I don't want no ordinary guy, coming on strong with me!'

BiByeBaby · 20/12/2019 17:30

Well I'm here now so we shall see 😁

Girlwhowearsglasses · 20/12/2019 17:42

I have no wish to see it - but I have a feeling people will go out of curiousity.

Saw the stage show 3 years ago after being mesmerised by the original in 1982. It had not aged well. Over sexualised and too many skin tight costumes on both men and women. Euuw

Quirrelsotherface · 20/12/2019 17:44

@FruitcakeOfHate that sounds amazing, always great when you find another Grease 2 kindred spirit Xmas Grin

The music is far superior to the original and Maxwell Caulfield was an absolute dream!

SinkGirl · 20/12/2019 18:31

That’s really not the issue. The CGI is bloody dreadful. Had they just been in leotards that would be a different matter.

And Grease 2 is the best.

PoultryBallot · 20/12/2019 18:45

It's funny how other people posting about Cats can cheer a person up so much so thanks.
Just read the reviews and some are very funny. I loved the stage show I went around 1993 and it was my first time in a London Theatre and I was blown away by it, I will watch the new movie but only when it's on Netflix

BiByeBaby · 20/12/2019 18:55

At least 20 people have walked out already...

JigsawsAreInPieces · 20/12/2019 19:22

I'm going to see it tonight... Xmas Confused

user1497207191 · 20/12/2019 19:23

The musical was bad enough, so I can only imagine the film being dire.

lovemenorca · 20/12/2019 19:24

I’m still waiting for all the positive reviews that @mummyrocks1 claims to have read

Not sure what involvement she has in the film, but safe to say.... I think it was a fib!

I'm baffled at this comment.

Over sexualised? How?

Skin tight costume? Well yeah. It's a dance leotard and tights. They wore those in the 80's as well 🤷🏻‍♀️
