A good friend of mine was on the crew . She said it was hideously awful, jaw dropping and embarrassingly bad in fact.

rookiemere · 19/12/2019 19:51

Wheresmychocolate now you tell me Wink

WheresMyChocolate · 19/12/2019 19:57

All the decent songs are in the second half and they have fireworks.

tapdancingmum · 19/12/2019 19:59

Me and DD1 are going tomorrow. We've read the reviews but are going with an open mind and most things that get slated I enjoy.

I'll let you know Smile

YeezerDoxng · 19/12/2019 20:04

Agree the stage show is shocking. We only stayed for the second half because I wanted to hear memories! Totally plotless.

madnessitellyou · 19/12/2019 20:48

Oh definitely see Frozen 2! Even my 12 year old, who went under sufferance muttering “I hate Frozen” loved it!

tectonicplates · 19/12/2019 21:07

I've been really enjoying reading the terrible reviews! They're hilarious!

LittleReindeer · 19/12/2019 21:16

Haven’t seen the film but the stage show is absolutely dire. No story whatsoever and so so boring. If the film is any better it’ll be a miracle.

TheNameGames · 19/12/2019 21:20

The trailer was creepy AF. I've never seen the stage show or know anything about it really apart from "Memories" but I've been enjoying the slating of the reviews. The remake of Aladdin got awful reviews too from the trailer they released but I don't think Andrew Lloyd Webber has the same fallback from his name than Disney has.

KaptainKaveman · 19/12/2019 21:25

I Loved the Human Centipede. I've seen all three parts. It is truly horrific though.

helpfulperson · 19/12/2019 21:36

It is not plotless. The plot is relatively simple - a number of cats explaining why they should be one ascending to the 'heavyside layer' ie heaven. But it is not plotless

TravellingSpoon · 19/12/2019 21:46

I am taking DD as a pre Christmas treat on Sunday. She knows all the songs word perfect so she will love it no matter what.

Councilworker · 19/12/2019 23:44

The original trailer was so unpopular that all the CGI was redone. There was a trailer for it when I took my kids to see Frozen 2 and the dads sat behind me were totally baffles "what is this? why has that cat got boobs, is this a real film".
It looks absolutely shockingly awful

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 00:29

I feel sad that a show with Francesca H in the centre of the promo poster is apparently so bad!

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 00:31

Kaptain when I first read aboit HC, I sat there thinking “ I hope my parents never hear about this”!

teentree · 20/12/2019 00:34

I've never seen the stage show or know anything about it really apart from "Memories"

Memory.

Disclaimer; I haven't seen the film. (Have seen the show.) Just going off the trailer and JH's performance on Strictly. -And James Corden being in it

The stage show is cats introducing themselves by singing poems and doing bendy dancing. There's a very thin back story there as an excuse for a plot but really, that's it. Cats, TS Eliot, bendy dancing.

As a stage production it sort of works because the costumes and make up are amazing, the dancing is impressive and the way the stage is set up was original, when it first came out, which drew a lot of attention. It's not my cup of tea musical wise, but I can see why seeing it in the theatre is loved by lots of people.

As a film? The cats are rat sized and they've used too much digital trickery (don't know the real term) so they're neither human nor cats or even humans pretending to be cats. They left the female actors boobs there so is it a 'furry' thing? But taking them away would've been questionable too so...I don't know. It's weird.

Also Jennifer Hudson is a fantastic singer but her Memory is so boring. It's no Elaine Paige (EP will be delighted! Grin)

All that said, plenty of films have been torn apart by critics and loved by audiences. I reckon it has a good chance of being a cult hit.

I'll probably go and see it.

EnidButton · 20/12/2019 00:51

Or maybe just wait until it's on tv.

SinglePringle · 20/12/2019 00:55

Best review I read:

‘The worst thing to happen to cats since dogs’
Grin

And whoever mentioned critics being wrong and citing Bohemian Rhapsody as a case in point, really?! BR was so bad I wondered if it were in fact a spoof in the vein of Spinal Tap!

BobLobLawLLB · 20/12/2019 00:58

Did anyone ever see The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt? Her flatmate Titus (my most favourite character in anything, ever) had a part in Cats on Broadway. He said it was a huge secret but basically you had to get on stage and ad lib whatver the hell you wanted.

managedmis · 20/12/2019 01:12

Can't even read this thread, never mind watch the program. Just the intro was too much.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 20/12/2019 01:20

James Corden as a cat in the trailer looking like a weird CGI James Corden/feline mutant hybrid was a strong sign this film was gonna bomb.

GeordieTerf · 20/12/2019 01:51

I'm secretly looking forward to it Blush

DioneTheDiabolist · 20/12/2019 02:32

As a bendy dancer in an 80s provincial adaptation I'm looking forward to seeing it on TV. I liked it well enough when I was in it, but I didnt think it was brilliant or anything.

At the time, I thought it was because I wasn't a "Cat" Person.Xmas Grin

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 20/12/2019 03:26

I have no interest in musicals and would never normally want to see this film if it weren't for the awful reviews. Now my curiosity has been piqued and I'm going on Saturday Smile
