We are a family of Musical lovers. None of us were impressed with Cats tbh. We'll give the film a miss....

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/12/2019 04:23

The trailers are disturbing enough. As a Rivers of London fan, I keep thinking of the Strip Club of Dr Moreau.

TheMostWonderfulTimeForABeer · 20/12/2019 04:28

I may be expecting too much, but I can’t understand why the actors don’t actually look more like cats Confused.

Nowadays film effects can be so amazing, but Judy Dench for example just looks like a terrifyingly hairy werewolf version of herself, rather than an actual cat. Not sure I’m keen tbh.

TwiddleMuff · 20/12/2019 04:31

If the trailer showed the best bits then it does promise to be awful!

whatswithtodaytoday · 20/12/2019 04:41

Love Cats the stage show, very much looking forward to the film. The trailer is a bit odd but it looks fun, I love the songs and it has an amazing cast.

Rockbird · 20/12/2019 05:15

Frozen 2 is ace, we've seen it twice and considering going again. My 11yo loves it the most! Ditch Cats and see that.

christmasathome · 20/12/2019 06:19

I will still go as DD and I were looking forward to going. I don't really pay attention to reviews - most of the films that win at the oscars are dire in my opinion so I give films the benefit of the doubt.

Rosie2000 · 20/12/2019 06:25

I’m going tonight- I don’t care what it’s like as I’ll be able to sit for 2 hours and relax after finally finishing work! My teen agreed to go with me because Rebel Wilson is in it Xmas Smile

Sparklybaublefest · 20/12/2019 06:32

I saw the trailer months ago and it left me feeling unsettled, it just looked Wrong.
but agree, it is tempting to go and watch now

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2019 06:38

Daily mail gives it 4/5, good review.

AJPTaylor · 20/12/2019 07:00

Saw the trailer at the cinema.
It was disturbing! Not my thing but it may yet be a "classic"

OverByYer · 20/12/2019 07:03

The trailer put me off, all those waggly tails look so freaky.
Not a huge fan of musicals as movies anyway.
Thought the Greatest Showman and Les Mis were dire

BrusselPout · 20/12/2019 07:30

I didn't really love the stage show, but I definitely won't be seeing the film - the trailer freaked me out with the weird human faced, weird tailed cats. In fact it is up there with The Polar Express in the 'wont watch, too fucking creepy' category (the weird faces in polar express make me shudder)

Dozer · 20/12/2019 07:33

As PPs say go to Frozen 2, it’s good!

daffyducked · 20/12/2019 07:37

I suppose it depends on how much of a film critic you are yourself.

Generally when I go to see a film I like to just sit, watch and hopefully enjoy. I don't sit there and think too much about the plot etc.

It's just entertainment.

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2019 07:40

The only people doing press for it are Dame Judi and Sir Ian gawd bless them ,Grin. The review s are so funny I am tempted to go just for the experience and what's her name singing the life out of memory!

bohemia14 · 20/12/2019 07:40

I thought the trailer looked good and have been looking forward to the film. I shall try and see it this weekend.

NightsOfCabiria · 20/12/2019 07:42

I think it’s tipped into ‘uncanny valley’ territory.

It just looks creepy. And shit.

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2019 07:45

I thought it looked fun nothing to serious and wanted to see it for months I will probably go see it and if it's shit it's shit.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/12/2019 07:45

I'm taking DM as she fancies seeing it. She took me to see the stage show as a child as a surprise so it's a joint memory thing. We like the music (and the poems they are based on- which have also been made into some lovely children's books).

It does look a bit creepy. I didn't even realise there was a plot.

BasinHaircut · 20/12/2019 07:46

Am I the only person in the world who thought the trailer looked ace and am excited about seeing it then? Grin

I fully admit that I like what I like though and don’t give much more thought to it than that. As someone upthread said, it’s just entertainment.

Disclaimer - Grease 2 is one of my favourite films

CareOfPunts · 20/12/2019 07:49

I thought the trailer was as creepy as fuck and I won't be going to see it.

This

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 20/12/2019 08:07

Oh I forgot that bit in Kimmy Schmidt, I bloody live that show @BobLobLawLLB!!

I saw a review on Facebook that essentially said it's like a furries convention with lots of scritching, it's very odd, but I feel compelled to watch it at some point, obvs not paying for it at the cinema though!!

VenusClapTrap · 20/12/2019 08:20

I took the dc to see the stage show, and halfway through the first half, after lots of shuffling and fidgeting, ds asked in a loud frustrated stage whisper “When are they going to start ACTING?” Grin

The second half was definitely better. They enjoyed that.

I haven’t decided whether to take them to the film. Dd loves the poetry book and knows all the cats’ names, so maybe.

MsMellivora · 20/12/2019 09:46

I saw CATS on stage as a 13 year old on a school trip, we were in the front row and the stage was circular. I was in fear of getting a foot in the face. It was my first time in a large London theatre and I enjoyed it.

It looks horribly creepy on that trailer but there is something about cgi that means it rarely works well.
