Anyone else devastated by the election result? Please can someone tell me it'll be ok?

And please no Tory gloating, I've seen enough of that on FB.

@SilverySurfer the smug gloaty threads are that way

Don’t worry about engaging OP. @SilverySurfer will just have to learn the hard way in time.

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 11:39

The country kinda survived Thatcher so we will survive Boris too.

A lot of the country didn't survive. Nor can I see that I party which decided to cut 20,000 Police is going to reinstate them. Or the party which has been busily privatising the NHS by stealth, but badging it as NHS, so that people don't realise. Just remember that profits which go to the Services provided by Virgin wil make Richard Branson richer, and is money which won't be ploughed back into health care.

Iwantacookie · 13/12/2019 11:41

Hope that means your doubling your donation to the food bank @silver

LoungeLizardLhama · 13/12/2019 11:42

How can any of you say that it’ll be alright, that things will go on as they have before? People have been dying in their 10s of thousands already. It’s already not alright. How many more people have to die before you get it? We’ve lost too much already, some people cannot lose anything more, there’s nothing left already for so many 💔

Equanimitas · 13/12/2019 11:44

Fortunately for Silvery, no-one will be gloating over her when she discovers how mistaken she is, because we will all be suffering in the same way.

lovemenorca · 13/12/2019 11:45

Just ridiculous

hsegfiugseskufh · 13/12/2019 11:49

menorca why is that ridiculous? some people really cant lose anything more... do you not believe poor people exist?

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 12:05

Silverysurfer - I think you must be a similar age to me. Are you in good health now? Because you will need to be. Otherwise, forget about health insurance at a reasonable price.

sam221 · 13/12/2019 12:14

I truly feel sorry the poor people and the disabled people in this country today. They will suffer and everyone who voted in the Tories, have blood on their hands because people will actually die.
Before anyone jumps on and says im being dramatic/crazy etc-please check food bank usage in your areas.

horse4course · 13/12/2019 12:33

Things will be shit and like with Trump, there will be deliberate targeting of minorities to make the masses feel superior and powerful.

Along the lines of your town hasn't got better after brexit but at least people on benefits have it worse.

FlashesOfRage · 13/12/2019 12:39

I voted Tory.

I absolutely don’t like Boris and I voted remain.

I feel sad that the people of this country had no credible opposition party to choose.

Watch the hundreds of ordinary people being interviewed today.
People saying they voted Tory even though they don’t trust BJ because they distrusted or disagreed with JC/momentum/labour even more.

Labour voters and activists looking shell shocked and repeating that the electorate just didn’t understand what they were voting for, that they are just selfish, that it’s all Brexit’s fault.

I feel that the opposition have let us all down.
A good government needs to be tempered by a credible opposition.

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 12:48

OK FlashesOfRage

You didn't like the Opposition and I agree with you to some extent, but now that you have put the Tories in, what do you expect them to do for you?

managedmis · 13/12/2019 13:06

My friend messaged me from the US: "you've got one now".

Yes. We have. Fuck.

^

This. This is all you need to know.

We're fucked.

managedmis · 13/12/2019 13:08

I know a lot of people are convinced that the NHS will become private, as in no free healthcare at all for anyone, I just cant see how that will happen because so many people would be dying! I cant see how any government would want that in their legacy?

^

Like in the States?

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 13:19

People are already dying and it doesn't appear to have troubled the Tories, and indeed now with a mandate, it seems a popular policy.

It will be fine, until they come for you don't forget that.

FlashesOfRage · 13/12/2019 13:22

@Peregrina

I think the people asking this are missing the point.

It’s not even that I expect the Tories to do anything different/better than they have been.

Someone has to be in charge out of a shit bunch.
I was just given no other options.

I didn’t trust a JC/momentum led Labour to do any better (honestly, I and clearly many other people didn’t) and therefore at this time there was no way I could choose Labour.

That’s how bad labour are right now.
That’s how unelectable they were.
That’s how little credibility they had.

The Labour Party has to begin listening to the people who could vote for it.
They did it to themselves with the constant rhetoric aimed at people who weren’t immediately behind them; stupid, selfish, uninformed, cruel, black hearted, ignorant, short sighted, fooled by the media, part of a conspiracy, making up antisemitism, etc

You catch flies with honey not vinegar 🤷‍♀️

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 13:28

I don't see how asking anyone what they expect of the Government they have just voted for is missing the point.

So your argument seems to be "We've had a shit Government for 9 years, the Opposition are shit, so let's have more of the same shit."

What would you like to see them do? How will you hold them accountable?

Sooverthemill · 13/12/2019 13:32

If you voted and the Party you voted for broadly represents your political view, please join that Party! You can get reduced membership fees for low income. Both Labour and LibDem will have leadership contests soon. And all parties need active members in order to fully represent their views.

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 13:35

Some of us are members of political parties. I joined mine after the 2015 election, thinking that I must do my bit to get this useless MP out. In which objective I helped the party to achieve.

Ihavethefinalsleigh · 13/12/2019 13:37

@MyGhastIsFlabbered

Anyone else devastated by the election result? Please can someone tell me it'll be ok?

It'll be fine. I'm too long in the tooth to be worried about what's happening. I've seen it all before. I can assure you that nothing much will change. Your everyday life will carry on pretty much the same. Try not to worry.

Peregrina · 13/12/2019 13:45

Sorry, I don't agree. For many people their lives won't carry on as before. Only if they have money, and can keep that money. If something like ill health strikes or a messy divorce you might well find that life is no longer carrying on pretty much the same.

I do wish that some of the noisy vociferous ones who complain about the poor using foodbanks when they just need to learn how to cook and budget could try to remember the old saying 'There but for the Grace of God, go I.'

TiddlersGone · 13/12/2019 13:50

I will be ok. I have money. But I don't want just my family to be ok. I want my neighbours, my community and other families to be ok. To live and enjoy life. I want society to be cohesive and functioning. I would pay more taxes to fund this.

I am not a selfish shit.

YouJustDoYou · 13/12/2019 13:53

Nor can I see that I party which decided to cut 20,000 Police is going to reinstate them

They already were pre-election. Our own county's force started advertising for their allowed officer slots a number of months ago, and made a point of posting across social media that recruitment was now starting up again. Was great to see the graduating officers in their new uniforms.

TiddlersGone · 13/12/2019 13:56

Oh and the NHS is not for sale?

Didn't Thatcher say utility companies weren't for sale? Cameron say the Royal Mail is not for sale?

Watch this space. It is already for sale and more of it will become privatised.
