Anyone else devastated by the election result? Please can someone tell me it'll be ok?

And please no Tory gloating, I've seen enough of that on FB.

The Conservatives have stated clearly and unequivocally, many times, that the NHS is not, nor will it ever be, for sale. This isn’t something they’re a bit cagey or evasive about, they’ve been very clear

The NHS can be provided by the private sector and still be said to have not been “sold”.

That’s what will happen.

We pay taxes = pays the private sector with our money being steered towards profits instead of patient care.

We will then have calls that the NHS is too expensive (no shit if you go for a more expensive option) and charges will creep in.

Look at what politicians do not what they say.

PleaseNoFortnite · 13/12/2019 07:37

I work for the NHS and have seen how bad it's become under the Conservatives, it really can't get much worse without me and several of my colleagues leaving.

I have my resignation letter in my locker, ready to hand in - I'm very lucky due to DH earning a lot more than I do at the top of the band 6 scale, so I can afford to just walk away and not have to take any more of this bullshit. I can spend the time supporting our 2 kids with ASD who have been largely failed at school due to cuts in the SEN budget.

I'll wait and see, but honestly can't see anything getting better.

KitKat1985 · 13/12/2019 07:37

For gods sake! The Left are so blinkered. You are not all going to die. Get a grip!

No I won't. Although the people who already go hungry regularly and rely on foodbanks just to live, or die of cold each winter because they can't afford heating may just. But hey, as long as you're okay, who cares eh?

dramaticpenguin · 13/12/2019 07:38

It's just really sad. The conservatives have shown over and over again that they dont care about the poor or disabled - they seem to live in this world where anyone can acheive if they work hard enough, which is just not the case! They don't run the country with kindness or humanity, and it makes me sad that so many people filmed that acceptable.

Not to mention Boris Johnson's clear demonstrations that he himself is racist, homophobic, and misogynistic. The voters might not be, but there's definitely not much doubt about the leader!

Iggly · 13/12/2019 07:38

Many have.

A whole generation has had a shit childhood.

Millions of kids in poverty. Christmas in a fucking BnB.

Yeah but that’s ok because they’re not dead

Hmm
KitKat1985 · 13/12/2019 07:39

I'm a nurse in the NHS. Trust me, it already is being privatised. It's just being sold off piece by piece. So outside companies do catering, and then another company does cleaning, and another company does patient transport etc. They're just privatising it stealthily.

MIdgebabe · 13/12/2019 07:44

No most people won't die, at least not in huge numbers and not straightway

Although more homeless people will die every winter
And those that can't afford private health cover
And older people will die of loneliness as ther will be no money for social support
And mentally ill people will die in ever greater numbers because of lack of support

And life will continue to get gradually harder for those lower down in society
Wage stagnation will come back. Opportunities for the young will be limited
The uk could well break up
A hard brexit will lead to increased prices and fewer job opportunities

On the bright side, if you can't afford fuel to heat your house and you don't want to eat chlorinated meat, then perhaps the uk carbon footprint will decline.

rwalker · 13/12/2019 07:45

I think it's a case of we would think the grass is greener. TBH I think the country would of need up bankrupt with all the promises JC made he got carried away.
I also think no matter what party in charge they can't please themselves anyway there opposition form the other party they both start at opposite ends and argue it out till they meet in the middle .

"It just confirms that the majority of this country are racist, sexist and homophobic"
There a % of people like this in the uk and don't think it excludes to any one party

PrincessAnnaOfArundale · 13/12/2019 07:47

It won't be ok.

PleaseNoFortnite · 13/12/2019 07:49

@KitKat1985 - you can add the pathology labs to that list, I'm working in one of the few NHS labs going and I'm scared for it's future (most other labs in our area are run by one or other of the private companies.)

We have to prioritise sample from private hospitals ahead of samples from NHS patients already - not a popular move, as we're already understaffed and struggling with the workload as it is.

Chloemol · 13/12/2019 07:49

@ WellErr. Well said

@MyGhastIsFlabbered you say you labour supporters struggle to understand how someone could vote for a party with a sexist, racist, homophobic liar for a leader, well I don’t understand how labour supporters can vote for a terrorist loving, racist, Marxist, incapable of making a decision leader

Superfoodie123 · 13/12/2019 07:50

I'm devastated too, what a selfish sad country we live in. The NHS is about the crumble, homelessness will not be addressed, I cant believe anyone would vote for the evil tories

Iggly · 13/12/2019 07:53

Labour wouldn’t have bankrupted the country.
Debt has blown up under the Tories despite reduced public spending

How have they done that????

I feel sick and truly apprehensive about the future
Dontknowwhyidoit · 13/12/2019 07:54

I feel absolutely sick that the conservatives have got in again and as for those saying get a grip. Really, are you blind, deaf and stupid. The NHS is already being sold off and the people in the know have literally been on all media outlets telling you but hey ho, Boris who can't tell the truth if his life depended on it, said its not for sale so let's go with that. People are dieing on our streets due to the austerity policies of this government, our services have been slashed, schools are struggling to buy toilet roll etc but non of that matters. I can not understand how people fear the labour party more than what has already been done and will continue to happen. This country has literally given Trump and Borris the thumbs up to start the process in full view to change the NHS into something we will have to pay for (not through taxes) it will continue to be underfunded so that we will feel like we have no choice but to start paying for appointments etc and it will be done little by little so that it's not a big shock.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 13/12/2019 07:55

@Chloemol who said I voted Labour? Huge assumption there.

But interestingly, at least one Tory MP that I know of is an ex-IRA member (or she was prior to last night...I'm not sure now). That sounds pretty terrorist loving to me. She ought not to be allowed anywhere near politics.

BillHadersNewWife · 13/12/2019 07:58

Life as we know it will carry on. Some may find it better, some may find it worse.

How the fuck is that life as we know it carrying on?? Confused Talk about contradicting yourself!

bogginmacaroni · 13/12/2019 07:58

Same. I have health problems and I'm worried about my children's future. I don't see why Tories are gloating on here. You think you can't end up like the homeless person on the street? Oh we all can.

Onehundredandtwo · 13/12/2019 07:59

It won't be ok. To those thinking that is panic or an overreaction ....It won't be ok because its not ok now! I was reading about the proliferation of food banks last night when I was thinking about how shit this situation is. Not that I wasn't already aware but it really does bring home just where we are.

I disagree with the earlier post that all who vote conservative are racist etc. 15 years ago I was frustrated that the then government and the liberal left were so dismissive of the "Daily Mail" readership. Look where it has led. We need to stop thinking like that. It has contributed to the polarisation every bit as much as Farage etc. Although it's feeling a bit too late anyway.

OP I depended on UC for a while. Its awful. I am still in a different precarious situation, and worry about how easy it could be to be back there. Sometimes you have to find a way to step away from the bigger picture when it's bleak. I know it sounds trite but maybe try to occupy yourself with other things. Distraction and self care type activities.

BillHadersNewWife · 13/12/2019 08:01

I've said it on here before and I'll say it again. Wait for the workhouses to open.

They're coming I bet they are.

They won't be called workhouses though. They will be called something like "Unemployed Training Accommodation" or "Retraining Homes"

And people will be made to do menial work for their benefits and a roof.

Onehundredandtwo · 13/12/2019 08:02

I can understand people thinking differently and voting differently to me without attributing hateful motivations etc. (Although fuck me it's difficult to understand voting for Boris). But it is more difficult to understand there lack of compassion for why people might feel anxious.

Onehundredandtwo · 13/12/2019 08:04

They're coming I bet they are. I agree. Its really not a huge leap from where we are now.

ShizeItsWeegie · 13/12/2019 08:04

Labour would have been a disaster because they want to tax what they see as 'rich people' so heavily but it's these 'rich people' that invest in the country, pay our wages and pay taxes. We need investment not a stop sign.

Beadyohfeedme · 13/12/2019 08:07

For those who don't understand how this has happened I'll use the example of my FIL. He is a street sweeper for the local council. He voted for Boris because he seems like a bit of a laugh and Corbyn has shifty eyes. His mum died in a very nice nursing home ten years ago in relative comfort despite having no savings or a house. Since then he has told me about many relatives whose lives have been wrecked by UC and PIP. His son and daughter in law have had to go to food banks and have had their gas and electric turned off in winter despite both working full time. But you, Boris is a laugh so then you go.

Iggly · 13/12/2019 08:09

it's these 'rich people' that invest in the country, pay our wages and pay taxes. We need investment not a stop sign

If that’s the case, why have most peoples wages flatlined when the very very rich have got even richer?

Riddle me that.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 13/12/2019 08:10

But what is wrong with these super rich people? A billionaire could pay 99% tax and STILL have way more than most people even dream of (assuming 1billion = 1,000 million). Yet they don't want to pay even close to 99% tax. WTF is wrong with them?
