This exit poll is just...no words.

Most people I know have agonised over this vote. Caught between the devila dn the deep blue sea. They have not voted out of self interest but have genuinely struggled to see where the country can go. Obvioulsy people reached different conclusions, but it wasn't selfishness

I agree with this.
I think people aren't necessarily a fan of the Tories but better the devil you know. I also think that similarly to the Brexit debate, the media is very focused on London & the acceptable face is to be a remainer labour supporter. If your not then debate is shut down because you're a selfish xenophobe, no grey area. I'm a remainer & not a Tory voter but I can recognise that the EU needs some reform or at least a debate about it & I question the financial implications of some of labours policies.

RhubarbTea · 13/12/2019 00:24

What a horrible result.

It's not just about Brexit. Loads of people I spoke to had issues with JC, with anti-Semitism, with the hard left socialist stuff he was peddling. I'm a Labour voter but this was so much more than just Brexit.
It's a fucking nightmare. I am so depressed right now. I wish desperately that JC had stood down long ago to let someone better and more popular take the helm. If that had happened, Boris may not even have called an election and none of this would have happened.
Was going to stay up but feeling so fed up I may go to bed... Sad

Firecarrier · 13/12/2019 00:36

I voted for the Brexit party.

Never in doubt which way I would cast my vote. I'm from a thoroughly working class family and long line of Labour voting Tory 'haters', although I would have voted Conservative rather than Labour this time if Brexit had not been an option.

Up until last year I was a paid up member of Labour. I am furious that they let us down on the biggest democratic decision of our lifetime - and I'm not alone.

Pretty chuffed with the results so far.

I probably won't be back to read the insults so don't waste your breathWink

StarUtopia · 13/12/2019 00:39

It's brilliant!! So happy!!!

Who the fuck in their right mind would vote for Corbyn and Diane Abbot - she can't even put her shoes on the right feet (or match a pair up for that matter) but you want her in charge of national security?! FFS.

I want to stay up and watch all of it, but got kid's nativity in the morning. Happy days. GO BORIS.

Prevegen4U · 13/12/2019 00:47

As one living in perpetual horror under Donald Trump on the far side of the pond (and starting to fear that my ignorant fellow citizens are going to give us four more years of him) you all have my utmost sympathy

Yes, we will be giving Trump four more years in 2020 AND putting at least one more Justice on the SCOTUS. I'm a conservative voter on both sides of the pond. Deal with it.

EnidButton · 13/12/2019 03:57

Star That was a photoshopped picture of DA. Her shoes were a matching pair, (the ones on her left foot if you're interested.).

EnidButton · 13/12/2019 04:04

I genuinely hope those celebrating this can afford private healthcare, or have the extreme good fortune to never get ill with anything that needs more than an antibiotic prescription or a plaster. There are hundreds of thousands of people going untreated, ignored and dismissed because the resources to thoroughly investigate, properly consult and actually care, are just not there. The NHS is on its knees already, by the end of next year it'll be lying down. Good luck to you is all I can say because the ones already relying on it are fucked.

EnidButton · 13/12/2019 04:05

And I really really hope I'm wrong and will admit it if I am. Let's see.

TitsInAbsentia · 13/12/2019 04:19

But something has clearly gone seriously wrong when Sedgefield (Labour since 1935) has gone, clearly no tactical voting going on there.

ginandbearit71 · 13/12/2019 04:59

Labour fucked up massively. So many people didn’t want to vote blue but felt no other option available to them, JC had no appeal amongst centre left remain vote. Huge huge opportunity catastrophically missed by Lab.

Now we have 5 long years of Tory hard rule. Jesus.

Soontobe60 · 13/12/2019 05:35

I went to bed with a heavy heart after seeing the exit poll, and have woken up this morning feeling such doom. I'm normally a positive person, but today I'm so so sad.
I get that people chose to not vote Labour because of Corbyn, but to then vote for a party headed by such an absolute fucking joke is beyond comprehension.
When labour lost control 9 years ago, the country went downhill. It hasn't really recovered, and for the average person in the street, it's going to get worse.
Let's just wait and see how long BJs fake promises and lies become reality. He'd better hope his nurses trees are growing fast for the 30thousand 'new' nurses he's promised us! But oh, wait, he doesn't give a shit because he's probably never stepped foot in an NHS hospital in his life as he is more than able to pay privately, so he really has no idea of the state of the NHS, or the state schools.

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 05:38

Can English people stop saying they're moving to Scotland?

We're not some kind of overflow state for leftists.

It's so fucking patronising and you're not going to do it anyway.

AnnaNimmity · 13/12/2019 05:38

Those working class, poor people who are "thrilled with the results" today. In 5 years time you will realise what a mistake you have made.

I have no love for Corbyn at all, but voting Tory was the biggest mistake you could have made.

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 05:41

Anna Well it's been much the same for the past 10 years, so why do you think it will be any different in another five? Tories have gained in working class areas, not lost.

Working class people are not represented by Labour anymore. Much of the party elite is incredibly patronising and just thinks their traditional base are thick. That's represented by how people on mn talk about them.

BeardedMum · 13/12/2019 05:42

Me and DH already have private health cover and I had just added my children to our cover too after seeing the exit polls.

I won’t feel too sorry for the people who voted for this to be honest to the point I will now only donate to food banks of I can be guaranteed the recipients of my donation did not vote for the Tories (only said half tongue in cheek).

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 13/12/2019 05:47

We cant afford private health care but could do with it. I am scared.

AnnaNimmity · 13/12/2019 05:50

@WatchingTheMoon the trajectory will just continue. More children will be in poverty, the number of food banks will grow, the NHS will continue to erode, rich people will continue to get richer.

I work directly with people who are affected by the austerity measures - largely poor people, largely women. Disabled people, BAME, immigrants. The situation for all those people will get worse. The gap between rich and poor will widen. The poor who voted for Brexit have been lied to. Boris is a monster. I feel utterly depressed today.

BeardedMum · 13/12/2019 05:54

Yes but yes I am finding it increasingly difficult to emphatise with a large part of the population who are actually voting for their own demise.

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 05:57

"I work directly with people who are affected by the austerity measures - largely poor people, largely women. Disabled people, BAME, immigrants. "

Oh you work with them. That doesn't mean you understand them. I AM those people. And most of the people I know can't stand Labour anymore, precisely because of attitudes like yours.

"I know these people and I know what's best for them."

You might not have noticed that the north/Scotland/Wales didn't exactly thrive under New Labour either. Things haven't gotten worse or better if you look at actual figures.

Also, the hyperbole. Boris is a monster? No. Boris is a twat, fair enough.

Oohaye · 13/12/2019 05:57

Why would people move to Scotland? I’m Scottish and I wouldn’t move back there under the SNP. They have destroyed Scotland and if they get independence, they’ll sink.

AnnaNimmity · 13/12/2019 05:58

@WatchingTheMoon you have no idea about me or my background.

YouJustDoYou · 13/12/2019 06:00

It's not just about Brexit. Loads of people I spoke to had issues with JC, with anti-Semitism, with the hard left socialist stuff he was peddling. I'm a Labour voter but this was so much more than just Brexit

^This. It's never been just about Brexit.

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 06:01

Anna the very fact that you state your credentials as 'working with' such people speaks volumes.

Hoolajerry · 13/12/2019 06:01

Prevegen4U I'm intrigued. What is it about Trump that you like?

AnnaNimmity · 13/12/2019 06:02

lol must be right then.
