How busy was your polling station?

I had to queue at the polling station this morning. That has never happened before. It was at about 07.45, it was raining and I'd have said it's a safe Tory seat where people might think their vote doesn't count.

Anybody else seeing signs of high/low turnout?

Busy but not queuing at 10am, mainly pensioners. Complex seat with a party changing MP here.

MerryDeath · 12/12/2019 15:46

no queue but a couple of others left and arrived whilst i was in there. sadly i am in a very safe tory seat but you never know.

ContadoraExplorer · 12/12/2019 15:46

I felt it was busier but I'm usually there earlier so not a good comparison. Its currently a Scottish Tory seat but big potential to oust them as it only changed last election.

Very quiet, but I was there at 9.30am. It’s on the main road into town and the main route to get to the local schools so I suspect a lot of people would have voted on their commute or school run a bit earlier.

KnifeAngel · 12/12/2019 15:48

Only one other person when I went at 7.30am. Safe Labour seat here.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2019 15:54

Very. More than usual according to the officials. Dh is going to it later. I will ask him if any different.

Frazzled2207 · 12/12/2019 15:54

A few people in mine but staff said they had been "very busy generally". Tory/Lib dem marginal.

Amelia910 · 12/12/2019 15:58

Relatively busy and I went at 10:15 so hardly a busy time! Marginal labour/tory seat

Frazzled2207 · 12/12/2019 15:58

Am quite encouraged by these responses. That said I remember well going to the referendum vote at 9.30pm and it was a wonderful evening and there was a significant queue.
Weather here absolute awful today so absolutely nobody will want to go at 9.30pm.
Time of year will def make a difference.

ByAppointmentTo · 12/12/2019 15:58

DH went at midday and was the only one there. I went about an hour later and was also the only one. They said it had been steady though.

thismeansnothing · 12/12/2019 16:00

Empty. I went after school drop off so 9:30.

It's at a church hall and there was a sign up saying there were 2 funerals this afternoon and not to park there. There's limited parking as it is so Hope that doesn't put people off from voting.

ShinyNewNameTimeAgain · 12/12/2019 16:00

I went at 1ish and had to queue to get into the car park. There’s about 15 spaces in the car park and normally on Election Day only about 5 or so cars whenever I’ve gone. Also in previous years the people in the polling station have seemed really pleased to see you as they then have something to do. This year they all seemed in a rush and trying to keep things running smoothly.

Harpingon · 12/12/2019 16:03

Not that busy at 11.00am but the one up the road was very busy 🙄

ArtichokeAardvark · 12/12/2019 16:04

Got there when it opened at 7am, queued for 15mins. We're a swing seat with a lot of commuters though, so it could have been the early morning pre-train rush.

Lamentations · 12/12/2019 16:04

Quite brisk, no queue but people holding the door for each other kind of busy. A safe Tory seat recently but was Lib Dem for a bit when Labour were last in so you never know.

Baguetteaboutit · 12/12/2019 16:04

It's tanking it down here at the moment but the polling station at the bottom of my road is still quite busy.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 12/12/2019 16:05

At 12.30 only me and the Lib Dem candidate. She left and the two women working there confessed they had no idea who she was (me either) until she spelt it out to them! Awkward!

Aycharow · 12/12/2019 16:06

Just been - one person voting when I got there, then just me. As I was driving out of the car park, about 5 cars and several soggy pedestrians all arrived at once.

Rubychard · 12/12/2019 16:07

I had a chat to the returning officer about this.

He said they normally polled about 1200 votes in that polling station and they had managed 600 in the first 5 hours today. I have to admit there was a queue.

Safe labour seat.

PawPawNoodle · 12/12/2019 16:08

There was about 5 of us at 8ish, everyone young. Safe Labour seat.

OolongSlayer · 12/12/2019 16:09

Very busy at 11am. Queues for about 25 minutes, safe Labour seat in a student area. Housemates have all queued at various points throughout the day.

Doodlekitty · 12/12/2019 16:10

I voted in my sage Labour seat straight from school pick up, so 3.30ish. There was only me there and the people working looked board to tears.

Crunchymum · 12/12/2019 16:11

I did the postal vote so haven't been to a polling station today but DC school was closed (they usually use a smaller building with it's own entrance so just have to close the breakfast / after school club) but the council asked for main school this GE due to expected higher turnout. I'll be interested to see if there was a much higher turnout.

Very safe labour seat here.

Sleepyquest · 12/12/2019 16:13

Dead but we did go at lunchtime and it is a housing estate (I'm on MAT leave)

CantspellWontspell · 12/12/2019 16:13

A trickle at mine (9am) but I usually don't see anyone so marginally busier.
