I don't see why Republicans can't be saddened when the queen dies, she's been around for over 90 years aleady, and is all over our money and stamps!

I, too. There's nothing at all wrong with feeling diminshed at the idea of the death of another human being. I'd feel the same about David Attenborough, who is the same age (and IMO, a national treasure).

Re. the Windsor family I doubt I shall feel personally affected, but I could never, ever take pleasure in the news of someone else's death; no, not even Margaret Thatcher. And whatever sentimentality people are bound to gush about it being the end of an era and the country never being the same again, there is little doubt that within a few days or weeks, everything will carry on precisely the way it always has.

Or perhaps there might even be a serious conversation about the future of the UK constitution. It would be one that is long overdue.
