Anyone there? Reports are sketchy at the moment. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2019/nov/29/london-bridge-incident-police-city

OP posts:
HoldNose · 30/11/2019 09:15

I am clearly not thought well of for my opinion, that's OK.

I class all three murderers on that bridge the same, they all took a life.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 30/11/2019 09:16

You may plan to kill people, I don't.

What now?

Who is 'planning' to kill anyone?

BovaryX · 30/11/2019 09:17

You may plan to kill people, I don’t

The only person who planned to kill people yesterday was the convicted terrorist with the zombie knife and suicide vest who had been sentenced to sixteen years in 2012. You know. The guy you refer to as a ‘28 year old.’ Because you won’t call him a terrorist

ProseccoSupernova · 30/11/2019 09:17

‘Not well thought of’ is a bit of an understatement to be honest. Hmm

BovaryX · 30/11/2019 09:19

I class all three murderers on that bridge the same, they all took a life

Here we have it. This speaks volumes about you. It’s most revelatory

chomalungma · 30/11/2019 09:21

The only person who planned to kill people yesterday was the convicted terrorist with the zombie knife and suicide vest who had been sentenced to sixteen years in 2012

And was on the streets of London 7 years later.......

Something somewhere has gone very wrong.

frostedviolets · 30/11/2019 09:21

I class all three murderers on that bridge the same, they all took a life.

Get that.
But.
What.Did.You.Expect.The.Police.To.Do?

It's all very well saying you think they are wrong but you seem incapable of backing your argument with what you actually expected the police to do in the sutuation.

You think they shouldn't have killed him.
Fine.

Tell us what he was meant to do instead??

lilgreen · 30/11/2019 09:24

No those deaths were NOT all equal. How could you even dare to say that?
That little shit took innocent lives, the police took his to prevent other innocents being murdered.
Just wanted to come on here to praise the public that waded in.I am in awe and it makes me feel very proud of those heroes. RIP to the 2 that lost their lives through no fault of their own and my thoughts go out to their friends and families. The other piece of shit can rot in hell.

Horsemad · 30/11/2019 09:24

In this instance it is just as well some of us put ourselves forward to be police or military.

So very true @NumbersStation.

ploopsie · 30/11/2019 09:25

Most people manage self defense without taking a life.

How many times are suicide vests used in these scenarios?

BovaryX · 30/11/2019 09:28

And was on the streets of London 7 years later.......Something somewhere has gone very wrong

It clearly has. I hope this will be a catalyst for a serious investigation into sentencing. Because his release is indicative of a profoundly dysfunctional system

ploopsie · 30/11/2019 09:30

I class all three murderers on that bridge the same, they all took a life.

So there is absolutely no distinction between a terrorist who kills innocent people & an armed officer disabling said terrorist from blowing themselves up?

As many posters have asked what should the police have done differently?

VaggieMight · 30/11/2019 09:32

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at poster's request.

BBC website:

He was wearing what is thought to have been a hoax explosive device.

Followed by

According to The Times, he had been released from jail a year ago after agreeing to wear an electronic tag and have his movements monitored.

How was he able to acquire a fake explosive device if he was being monitored so well? Were his online and personal purchases monitored?

Or was it something he cobbled together?

Driedlimes · 30/11/2019 09:35

@HoldNose
Stop calling them all 'murderers'.
You are incorrect. Murder is a legal term and your refusal to understand the difference between murder and other forms of killing, both lawful & unlawful just makes you appear really dense.

Passthecherrycoke · 30/11/2019 09:37

“Most people manage self defense without taking a life”

Of course! But sometimes death is an inevitable part of the steps you have to take to defend yourself. There are people acting in self defence EVERY DAY who manage to do so with a simple punch or slap.

Sadly, sometimes it takes more, or a grapple with a weapon ends with the death of the attacker.

@HoldNose I have total respect for your views, in theory. The issue here is that you can’t explain them clearly.

Sadly that doesn’t reflect well on the degree of intellect that’s gone into your ethics and views.

RedGal · 30/11/2019 09:38

I am not the type of person who would choose to be an armed response police officer or soldier, so I wouldn't ever put myself in the moral situation where I had the power to take a life

Luckily there are brave souls who do this on our behalf every day, and I doubt very much you would turn down their help if you or your family were faced with a life or death situation.

To call the police officer, who had to make this potentially life saving decision, a murderer?! You are a fool.

Passthecherrycoke · 30/11/2019 09:39

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook electronic tagging and monitoring doesn’t usually include 24 hour surveillance or purchase monitoring

Sparklfairy · 30/11/2019 09:41

you can't persuade me that it's OK to take a life.

'oh please Mr Terrorist, sir, can't we talk reasonably about this?' Hmm

MrsMaiselsMuff · 30/11/2019 09:43

As to what went wrong, it's worth watching the Channel 4 series Crime and Punishment that was on recently. The penultimate one looks at the failed privatisation of the probation service, but the whole series is worth watching to understand what is going wrong in the criminal justice system.

Morning everyone - just to let you know we've removed the post linking to the video of the incident in line with the advice from the Met Police about sharing footage. twitter.com/metpoliceuk/status/1200431847718686720

MarthasGinYard · 30/11/2019 09:50

Thank Goodness they shot the evil bastard.

I wouldn't be surprised if more of his original group aren't plotting similar murders of innocent people.

These terrorists need harsher containment.

A lethal injection would certainly fit the bill.

HoldNose · 30/11/2019 09:50

I don't make plans to take life in a self defense situation, others do. I don't make personal attacks on others for an opinion, others do.

You don't like my morals or opinions that's clear, have a good day.

MarthasGinYard · 30/11/2019 09:51

'To call the police officer, who had to make this potentially life saving decision, a murderer?! '

I'd call him a hero personally

GCAcademic · 30/11/2019 09:52

I see HoldNose has not responded to the repeated question of what they think the police should have done. Let the terrorist carry on, no doubt. How many lives do you think he should be allowed to take so that he wasn’t himself “murdered”? As many as he wants?
