How often do you get takeaway / eat out?

In the run up to christmas we've got a takeaway / meal out planned most Saturdays. We don't normally do it that often, normally once or twice a month. How often do you get takeaway or eat out?

OP posts:

Me and DP go out to eat twice a month.
DC may have a McDonalds/nando's once a month.
We have a carvery once every 6 weeks or so.
Takeaway once a fortnight ish and usually the result of me and DP are shattered and can't be arsed to cook.
I eat lunch with friends once or twice a month.
I have lunch with my auntie once a week.
Do work lunches count? It would add up more and the above looks a lot!

Take away probably once a week (Deliveroo). We eat out a fair bit. 2-3 times a week.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/11/2019 19:32

Very rarely. Take-aways maybe twice a year, restaurants maybe 6 times a year. We are almost always disappointed with the quality and wasting money on shit/mediocre food is a real peeve of ours.

Also, I love to cook, am very good at it, and we love spending time together at home. Another big factor is that we enjoy having a couple glasses of wine in the evening, but we decided many years ago to never drink when driving, so staying home is easier and more enjoyable.

Fizzypoo · 26/11/2019 19:35

@Aquamarine1029 we have that most times we go out. It's quite annoying paying for food that would taste better if you made it.

I like going out to eat as I like making the effort to dress up and having a few gins when out. I like the atmosphere and experience rather than the food I know I could cook better.

pontiouspilates · 26/11/2019 19:40

I don't like Takeaways but I'll give into pressure from DD 3 or 4 times a year and get a delivery. We eat out approx 3 or 4 times a month, will have a light lunch out weekly and go out for coffee around 4 times a week.

Bluntness100 · 26/11/2019 19:48

takeaway is usually once every month to six weeks. Indian, Chinese, kebab, We eat out about once a week, often at the local gastro pub, it's run by an ex Gordon Ramsey chef and the food is excellent.

All are dinners, I wouldn't count lunch sandwiches or subways etc, that's just when it's convenient. I wouldn't really class them as a takeaway but guess technically they are.

Passthecherrycoke · 26/11/2019 19:51

We eat out about five times a week. That doesn’t include work lunches which are take outs from places like prey fairly often

Take aways only once or twice a month really

user1497207191 · 26/11/2019 19:52

Once a month or so.

OhHellllooooo · 26/11/2019 19:53

Never really get takeaway... maybe once or twice a year. Eat out for special occasions, catch up with friends, maybe once every few months

Sleepysquirrelin · 26/11/2019 19:57

Take away any amount from once a week to once a month. Trying to cut down a bit. Eating out - probably once or twice a month. Plus the odd sandwich or McDonald's out as well.

Iwouldbecomplex · 26/11/2019 20:03

We go out for breakfast one weekend day and we get takeaway one weekend evening. I usually have a lunch out twice a week too. The rest of the time it's packed lunches and home cooking.

Hurdygurdy24 · 26/11/2019 20:46

if I'm at home I'd rather eat better quality food that I cook.

You need to try some better takeaways.

There are amazing Lebanese, Greek, Mexican, Iraqi etc places these days not just the standard Chinese or Indian stuff which is now basically a British version of a different cuisine

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/11/2019 21:19

@Hurdygurdy24 - no take away will be better than the ‘standard’ Chinese / Indian takeaway. In most places Lebanese / Iraqi / Greek / Mexican is cooked by Chinese, Indian or Eastern Europen chefs same as any other type of cuisine. There’s also the not so small matter that people in those communities (including Indian and Chinese) tend to go out to eat for their food, or use specialist ‘sweetmarts’ that offer catered options - so all take away and delivery options by their very nature will be designed for the English / Scottish / Welsh palette. That’s why there’s often a taste difference too in the types of food you can eat in and the same takeaway dish at the same restaurant.

AnneElliott · 26/11/2019 22:13

We have pizza on a Friday night after scouts. I'll also go out for dinner with a friend every 3 weeks or so.

Other than that it's when out for an occasion like a birthday etc.

Not that deliver to our village. We just have the local Indian and a Chinese that's so far away it's not only shit but cold too.

Orangerocks · 29/11/2019 16:34

Anywhere between once and three times a week. This ranges from healthy breakfast to Dominos pizza. I live in my town’s centre so everywhere is close and always arrives steaming hot. I’m 20 weeks pg with a 4yo, permanently exhausted and OH works long hours so it’s down to me to cook. 4yo doesn’t eat takeaway though and is at pre-school for most meals

TheClitterati · 29/11/2019 16:39

Fish & child every couple of months. Chinese 2-3 times a year.

So not often.

Caramel78 · 29/11/2019 17:08

@TheClitterati fish & child Grin

Dustarr73 · 29/11/2019 17:14

Tonight.Theres a Chinese takeaway doing a Black Friday special.Spend over 25 euro and its half price.Im starving and cant wait.

Will eat it watching The Late Late Show

confusedofengland · 29/11/2019 18:13

Takeaway maybe once a month, always fish & chips, others too expensive.

Eating out birthdays, holidays & special occasions. Even on holiday recently we only ate out twice, for breakfast & they were cheap ones (supermarket & McDonald's), otherwise we self-cater. Again mostly down to money.

We'll often do own versions at home eg hot dog, supermarket pizza, egg & chips etc & are happy enough with that.

Crunchymum · 29/11/2019 18:38

We have one evening a week that I don't cook. It can be a take away / meal out / freezer surprise or microwave meal (I don't count the latter two as cooking!!!)

whatsinthebagwhatcoulditbe · 30/11/2019 07:03

Pre kids, I probably ate out two or three times a week and had takeaway once a week.

Now it's takeaway once a week tops. Usually pizza or mezze. If I want a curry or Chinese style dinner I get one of those boxed-up meals from a supermarket.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 30/11/2019 07:12

A chippy tea maybe once a fortnight if the DC are having an early night and we're not eating all at the same time.
Sometimes a sandwich and coffee in a national trust tea room, maybe a few times a year.
Family meals out also a few times a year for various birthdays, Christmas catch ups etc.

MrsJonesAndMe · 30/11/2019 07:17

Take out maybe once a month. Eat out (a meal) maybe once every 3 months. Hot chocolate and brownie from Costa daily Blush

ArabellaPilkington · 30/11/2019 07:36

Not as much as I'd like. DH is really, really miserable about eating out, so with him it's special occasions only and even then he ruins it a bit by choosing the cheapest thing on the menu, or ordering nothing and scraping leftovers from the kids plates. (Although now they are teens there are no leftovers!)

He prefers takeaway like fish and chips (which we aren't that keen on) or Indian. So in winter we probably get one or the other once a month. Never in summer.

I eat out with the DC if I'm out with them at a mealtime eg shopping etc. We like Wagamama and Eat. That is probably about 10 times a year.

Then I eat out with girlfriends probably once a month on average.
