How often do you get takeaway / eat out?

In the run up to christmas we've got a takeaway / meal out planned most Saturdays. We don't normally do it that often, normally once or twice a month. How often do you get takeaway or eat out?

Rarely get a takeaway. Eat out a fair bit - probably 2 or 3 lunches a week. Very rarely have dinner out due to small children.

Ohyesiam · 26/11/2019 09:46

We get fish and chips after a day on the beach in the summer, but no other takeaways.
I have lunch with friends every few weeks, and we eat out as a family every few months.
If I want an easy meal I’ll do filled fresh pasta with pesto and frozen peas, which doesn’t take much more effort than ordering a take away, but obviously isn’t Such a treatSmile.
I’m on a roll with cooking and meal planning so it feels ok to carry on in the run up to Christmas.
Let’s see how I feel once I’ve done Christmas thoughGrin.

Quite a lot but often quite casual street food type places for both. So maybe a more formal meal out once a month. It tends to be when we're out and about doing stuff or late back. So last week we had takeaway on Sunday which we picked up after the cinema. Then had pub dinner before the theatre on Wednesday. Then pizza on Friday and breakfast out on Saturday. This is probably a tiny bit more than normal. But it's a big part of what we enjoy.

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/11/2019 09:49

Rarely takeaways - I’m not a huge fan of Chinese or Indian generally and don’t eat fast food; plus takeaways can cost the same as a restaurant meal yet with none of the ambience and somebody else washing up.

Eat out anywhere from once or twice a week to every day, depending on schedule and social life.

PrimeraVez · 26/11/2019 09:50

Quite a lot to be honest.

Pizza most Thursdays (we're in the ME and the weekend is Friday and Saturday) although now the weather is better (cooling down), we are doing BBQs a bit more

Normally both breakfast and lunch on both days of the weekend are in a cafe/restaurant

Every Wednesday DH and I go out for dinner (anything from local pub to fancy restaurant, depending on our mood!)

LemonPrism · 26/11/2019 09:54

One a week? We're fairly cash rich, time poor tbh. We don't have kids though and it's not always a big greasy one. There are some lovely Lebanese and Greek mezzo places near us. Or sushi and Vietnamese food

Sherloidbaisherloid · 26/11/2019 09:54

Usually get a takeaway on a Saturday night. Never really any other days unless birthday etc then will eat out

Hurdygurdy24 · 26/11/2019 10:05

This post has actually made me realise , we haven’t ever had breakfast or lunch in this house and we moved in 14 months ago

MockneyReject · 26/11/2019 10:11

Why do people feel the need to justify eating out/takeaways? I've just realised that I do this, but why?
I don't particularly enjoy cooking, but have a 10 year old who enjoys eating! So, we eat out/order in 3-4 times a week. The food is fresh and 'cooked from scratch' (that term makes me cringe!) The cooks/chefs are better at cooking than I am and their kitchens are likely cleaner than mine is! Eating out, even breakfast at a local cafe is nicer than eating at home - they have tables, we don't have space for one, so when I do cook, we eat from our laps in the living room.
The ideal of a large family gathered around the table, chatting about their day whilst eating food grown in their own garden just isn't how it is for many types of family. For us, the cafe is as near as it gets to that.

BuildBuildings · 26/11/2019 10:16

Yeah our take aways are often not a traditional shit in a tray type greasy food. I agree with @MockneyReject too.

goodluckhun · 26/11/2019 10:19

Husband eats lunch out every day, I probably eat lunch out 3 times in the week and then we all eat out as a family about 2/3 times over the weekend. Maybe one takeout in the week if both late home from work

Lozz22 · 26/11/2019 10:19

Never. Because although I earn around £1100 a month I spend 2 weeks out of every month not being able to afford to buy food so have to decide on one meal for the day with whatever frozen veg I have left over in my freezer. Sometimes I might have enough to scrape together for a cheap pack of noodles or pasta and sauce or even a tin of beans but that's about it. There's nights I'd love to be able to get a takeaway.

avocadotofu · 26/11/2019 10:19

A couple of times a month.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/11/2019 10:20

I have had 12 so far this year. I know that because I resolved to have no more than 19 in '19! (And also because I am fairly tight! Grin )

Mixture of chips/kebabs/Chinese.

camelandsushi · 26/11/2019 10:21

We were just talking about this last night as we have a cushty little routine going. We have gusto mon-Thur evenings. Take away Friday, eat out Saturday then my mums or MIL or ours for Sunday dinner (so I do 1 in 3 sundays).

MiniTheMinx · 26/11/2019 10:26

The children and I eat out once a week. DH buys lunch everyday but otherwise seldom eats out, although we are out for dinner this evening. It's a rare treat to eat out with husband, and it's only because we have been invited by his father. Never have take away, not because we don't like it but because it seems like an expensive luxury to eat badly, but I love Chinese.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/11/2019 10:27

Kids like a McDonald's or Nandos or cheap pizza place so max once per weekend or once a fortnight we will do that.

Dh and I usually get a takeaway on a a Thursday evening.

MiniTheMinx · 26/11/2019 10:27

camelandsushi that sounds fab, but what is gusto?

passthetea · 26/11/2019 10:31

Eat out once a month. Probably 2-3 takeouts a week.

MsMellivora · 26/11/2019 10:31

I used to eat out twice a week, now it’s once and take away is around every two weeks.

Yeahnahyeah1 · 26/11/2019 10:34

Probably three times every two weeks

MiniTheMinx · 26/11/2019 10:34

Lozz22 that sounds very harsh. Do you have children? Is this your only income? Are you entitled to any help you are not currently getting? No one should be in this position, let alone someone who is working. Whilst eating out could be thought a luxury (maybe rightly, but I make no judgement) being able to eat is not a luxury.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 26/11/2019 10:36

Once or twice at the weekend

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/11/2019 10:37

We don't normally do it that often, normally once or twice a month that's loads imo. We maybe have fish and chips every 3 months or so. We never get Chinese or Indian food it's just so expensive for what it is and I'm always slightly disappointed. I don't ever entertain the notion of takeaway pizza when Tesco do them for a fraction of the price. No judgement of those who do,but takeaway just isn't on our radar.

CatUnderTheStairs · 26/11/2019 10:37

Takeaway once in a blue moon. Maybe once a year. The local takeaways aren't great. We dont have deliveroo or anything like that.

We do eat out a lot though. Lunch once or twice a week. Sandwich or soup. Then we eat out in the evening about 6 times a month.
