I haven’t watched the interview, but heard reports of the content. I just find it unbelievable he claims he can’t remember meeting a woman he had his arm around! Despicable. Does anyone believe him?

The thing is that it's not just a 70s 80s phenomenon, this is still happening now.

Wildorchidz · 17/11/2019 10:51

If the past catches up with a fair number of 1970s/80s rock gods then any RF transgressions will look as innocent as a children's party in a pizza house. They must have their lawyers on speed dial.

They won’t be immune from police questioning. That’s the difference.

derxa · 17/11/2019 10:51

Prince Andrew and Fergie are all about the dosh.
That's what it all came down to. Andrew kept in with Epstein because of money. Strangely I believed him about not remembering VR.
He's a very stupid and unaware man cosseted by privilege.

“ The thing is that it's not just a 70s 80s phenomenon, this is still happening now.”

The non royal version of this attitude to women is exemplified every day on the Relationship board. And in our public life.

CallmeAngelina · 17/11/2019 10:55

As a redundant younger brother of an heir he has done nothing of use or value for his country.
Well, actually, that's not true. He was in active service in the Falklands Conflict in 1982. He was widely praised for that (and rightly so, actually).

Re: mingling with wealthy billionaires. Has no one ever told him (and others) that these people will always, ALWAYS want payback in one way or another.

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 10:57

To answer myself

MONEY PLAIN AND SIMPLE

I don't know much about Boris's finances but Trump and Andrew have a lot in common.

Both have escaped financial difficulties by taking money from very dodgy people.

One sells the image of a rich business man created by reality TV. The other sells the image of the Royal family.

Both are vulnerable to blackmail because they have taken money and favours from very dodgy people.

The only difference is that Trump seems to have some talent as a snake oil salesman. Andrew makes Eric, Don Jr and Jared look highly functional.

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 11:01

He was in active service in the Falklands Conflict in 1982.

To be fair, that does put him ahead of the Trumps in one field.

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 11:02

Although a lot of other people were also on active service in the Falklands in 1982.

NotaWagon · 17/11/2019 11:04

I'm watching this interview now.

Feel SICK. He doesn't even properly deny it. It's all shady umms and aws and ''I have nO recollection''.

CallmeAngelina · 17/11/2019 11:11

Although a lot of other people were also on active service in the Falklands in 1982.
Yes, true, but that OP said PA had never done anything of use or value for the country. I was just pointing out that in fact he has.

Inkanta · 17/11/2019 11:12

Prince Andrew and Fergie are all about the dosh.
That's what it all came down to. Andrew kept in with Epstein because of money.

Yes I suspect that's part of the story.

acatcalledjohn · 17/11/2019 11:13

“If you’re a man it is a positive act to have sex with somebody,” the prince explained. “You have to … take some sort of positive action and so therefore if you try to forget it’s very difficult to try and forget a positive action and I do not remember anything."

This is the bit that makes a mockery of every sexual assault/rape victim in history and tells me that she is absolutely right.

Cam77 · 17/11/2019 11:15

You can see that he was pressured into doing the interview as a PR exercise. He obviously hates being there and having to give answers for the watching plebs. But as a PR move I think it went down like a lead balloon. Oops.

NewName73 · 17/11/2019 11:16

Cam77 His PR adviser told him not to do it and has resigned.

This mess is entirely of Andrew's own making.

AnyMinuteNow · 17/11/2019 11:18

Cam there doesnyyseem to be any evidence to support that, more the opposite.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 17/11/2019 11:22

I can't believe that his PR team didn't say to him, 'For God's sake Andrew, whatever else you do or don't say, make sure that you make some mention your sympathy for the girls that were trafficked and how sorry you are that they went through that'.

There was no mention at all, not even a half hearted token comment.

Was that on purpose? In order to try not to draw more attention to it? It must have been?

EleanorReally · 17/11/2019 11:23

Profumo all over again.

RhinoskinhaveI · 17/11/2019 11:23

Prince Andrew is one strand of a ghastly tapestry created by Epstein and Ghislaine, Andrew did the interview against advice, maybe he genuinely thought that he would be persuasive and believable, I suspect he has made a calculation it would be better for him to get his story out now, even if no-one does believe him he is untouchable but there will be others who are not untouchable

C8H10N4O2 · 17/11/2019 11:32

Bluntness, A friend of ours trained with him at Dartmouth. Said much the same thing as your dh

A family member who was by nature ridiculously calm and laid back was a senior officer in the navy through both Charles' and Andrew's tenures. On the subject of Charles' he would simply shrug and say "well he is a Royal" no better or worse than expected (Charles' reputation for shouting at staff who got his bath temperature wrong preceded him!).

On the subject of Andrew he would actually get heated - thought him a loathsome arrogant and entitled little shit who was a liability to his men.

When this whole Epstein thing blew up and Andrew was denying the claims of underage sex (its not "sleeping" for heaven's sake) with young girls the only reaction from my relative was "oh did Epstein keep boys as well then?".

Its well known that the Queen has a blindspot where Andrew is concerned and that she blocked questioning by teh FBI and the French police which makes her approval of this interview even more bizarre.

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 11:32

BBC website today:
"He said he did not speak to Epstein once he knew about the 2006 Palm Beach Police investigation into possible child sex offences. Nor did he speak to him or contact him when he was in prison. Then in 2010 he flew to New York and stayed with him - it was more "convenient", he said - for the sole purpose of telling him they could no longer be friends. By this point they had not seen each other for four years."

Evening Standard March 2011
www.standard.co.uk/news/duchess-of-york-apologises-for-gigantic-error-of-judgement-over-debt-6574623.html

Sarah Ferguson admits that Andrew's 'Office' organised a payment from Epstein to one of her debtors after she was faced with bankruptcy in 2010.

Only one of these statements can be true.

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 11:34

You just don't accept money from people like Epstein if you want to cut all ties with them.

EleanorReally · 17/11/2019 11:37

but that was sarah accepting money.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/11/2019 11:38

Maybe the queen over estimated both his intelligence and his appeal to the generel pubic?

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/11/2019 11:39

*general

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 11:43

but that was sarah accepting money.

The payment was organised by Andrew, and newspaper reports at the time say that he was visiting Epstein to organise the deal. Given that £15,000 is a comparatively small sum (and Andrew and his entourage wouldn't have flow to New York using air miles) I think it's reasonable to assume that there was more to the agreement than £15,000.
