I haven’t watched the interview, but heard reports of the content. I just find it unbelievable he claims he can’t remember meeting a woman he had his arm around! Despicable. Does anyone believe him?

A very tiny point, aside from all the rest of this shit-show, it is fairly clear from the "doctored hand" photo, that they were standing on a landing upstairs, as you can see the banister rail to the left.
So, even if he hadn't been upstairs, he will have seen the photo, and therefore known.
However, the background of that pic doesn't look to me like the home of someone wealthy - more like a student flat.

CallmeAngelina · 17/11/2019 09:12

Who will be accompanying the Queen to church today?

Depends where she is. If she's at Windsor, there aren't usually photos of her attending, I don't think. There are if she's at Sandringham or Balmoral.

Surely the parents of the birthday girl or boy would remember if royalty showed up at their child's party?

His security detail would know. Staff would know. All parents would know and remember too,

The fact he isn't willing to allow the fbi to validate it and not one person has come forward to confirm it speaks volumes.

Plus it's irrelevant. You can go to a kids party in Woking at 5pm, and still make your way to Belgravia and tramps after the kids have gone to bed.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/11/2019 09:19

I'm no wiser having watched the interview twice. I think it was a disastrous decision to do it - every other similar interview (Charles, Diana, Meghan/Harry) has merely fuelled public speculation and negative media attention.

Maybe the objective was to do exactly this, so that the possibility of a fair trial could be challenged.

merrymouse · 17/11/2019 09:25

Yes, it's a very strange alibi. He had also presumably left his younger daughter at home to go to Woking, so his story that he couldn't have gone out because he couldn't leave the children at home with the staff doesn't make sense.

On the other hand, there should be loads of corroborating evidence to prove what he was doing so why is he giving a useless alibi to Emily Maitlis instead of talking to the police?

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2019 09:34

Why was he friends with Ghislaine Maxwell? I wonder why Maitlis didn’t ask about that relationship.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/11/2019 09:36

Because Mummy has had a word. Andy can’t possibly have done anything wrong can he? She’s used to this stuff anyway. Philip was allegedly up to all sorts too back in the day.

Pizzagate!

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/11/2019 09:38

There are all sorts of questions she should have asked. She seemed cringingly deferential. All that ‘sir’ stuff. I couldn’t work out whether she was trying to kill him into a false sense of security or was genuinely star struck.

Lull not kill!!

I think Emily was cleverly lulling him into being more open - her face at the end when she said 'unbecoming' ?! gave her true feelings away.

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2019 09:41

I must have missed the sirs. Two Your Royal Highnesses. I suspect the idea was to let him show us what he’s like. Which he did-in spades. But I would have liked a few more “Prove it, sunshine”s!

MarianaMoatedGrange · 17/11/2019 09:42

I doubt she was star struck, more lulling him into a false sense of security by playing to his sense of entitlement and deference.

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2019 09:46

She certainly didn’t my look started struck to me. I presume she had had to agree questions in advance- I assumed that’s why she asked the same ones several times, to hammer the point home a bit.

BlouseAndSkirt · 17/11/2019 09:49

I think he is a vile man.

As a redundant younger brother of an heir he has done nothing of use or value for his country. I can’t believe that Harry gets the flak he does, in a similar position, when he is so active in Invicta, did the tour of Africa, etc etc.

But... I guess he had years of parties, house parties etc where he had his arm round young women and young women (I am not including V in this) wanted to be photographed with him.

So who knows.

But his moral dereliction and poor judgement are not in doubt, given the context of the question.

ssd · 17/11/2019 09:50

I think Emily has been thrown to the wolves here. They wanted someone with gravitas who wouldn't ask awkward questions. She was perfect.
I can hear Jeremy Clarkson interviewing him instead, rolling his eyes and exclaiming "OH COME On!!!"

Bluntness100 · 17/11/2019 09:51

I also don't think she was either star struck or lulling him into a false sense of security. Quite frankly she'd have hit him with the killer questions if she was doing the latter, for example why won't your legal team allow you to answer the fbi questions, why won't you allow your alibis to be validated, why do you feel an early party in Woking provides an alibi for going to tramps late evening?

I strongly suspect the tone of the interview was agreed in advance and she was under strict instruction on how to behave and handle it. Otherwise he'd have ended the interview. She was simoly managing it as per her instructions and doing her job. She was there to give him a platform to deny the allegations, no more no less.

The fact his answers didn't logically stack up, is his doing.

Re Pizza Hut, he says he took Beatrice to a party there. Surely the parents of the birthday girl or boy would remember if royalty showed up at their child's party?

I'm sure the staff would remember, but as others have said, a party at 5pm doesn't stop you being in a nightclub at midnight.

I loved the way he didn't go to or throw parties. He just, 'organised a normal weekend shoot' and only went to dinner with 'about 12 people' - who the hell thinks a dhoot is a normal thing?

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2019 09:56

Yes- so many of the things that were left hanging were incredibly condemning. Not least that he thinks men make a “positive act” when they have sex which means they are more likely to remember it than the mere receivers......

BertrandRussell · 17/11/2019 09:58

“ who the hell thinks a dhoot is a normal thing?”

To be fair- for anyone of his class and generation shooting weekends happen all the time and are perfectly normal.....

ssd · 17/11/2019 10:11

Yes Paxman of course🤭
