Always loved treating myself to bits in Mark's and Spencer's food but I've been in today got afew meal deals eg 2 x large pizzas and 3 sides for ten pounds great and yes I'm never going to buy my weekly shop in there but some stuff is actually really good price and it's such lovely quality food!

I’m not sure I hold individual companies responsible for erring on the side of caution

This dispute needs to be resolved st the government level.

This is exactly what I was going to post. Plus the comments re Ocado, who nailed their colours to the mast a while ago.

M&S is convenience food, which I occasionally use in common with many other working women. The wood fired pizzas are excellent and I sometimes pick up a bit of fillet steak or a trimmed rack of lamb on my way home. Charlie Bighams lasagne is much better though.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/11/2019 09:42

what 'caution' though? Surely caution would be to not do this on the basis that women are at risk of: scale of being made uncomfortable right up to attack.

VenusTiger · 13/11/2019 09:55

What an interesting thread, thanks @Mummyoflittledragon and @RaymondStopThat

More than 80% of transwomen still have a fully functioning penis, and statistically, transwomen as a group commit sexual crimes at the same rate as men. from @littlecabbage - very interesting!
How on earth are we going to sort this out? Whose rights come first as it seems it’s not ours (women’s) - we can’t sort this out can we?

GladAllOver · 13/11/2019 10:04

I've not had any problems avoiding M&S. Plenty of other shops have been happy to take my money, and I'm actually saving some.
What’s not to like?

HappydaysArehere · 13/11/2019 10:13

Mainly I find M&S food okay. However, awhile ago I tried one of their Plantbased products. It was a burger and was very pink. I fried it and it was still pink after a good time of frying. However, I took one mouthful and can honestly say it was disgusting. I now hurry past the Plant based products as quickly as I can.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 13/11/2019 10:31

I was a weekly M&S food shopper but have now gone elsewhere.

They clearly don't listen to their customer base. Women have been telling M&S for years what they want from them and yet still their clothing arm is failing because of poor choices/attempt at market repositioning not in line with their core demographic.

So yeah, carry on not listening to women M&S. It has done you no favours thus far.

Goldenchildsmum · 13/11/2019 10:34

M & S CustomerCare is just rude nowadays. Way too arrogant. I rarely buy anything from Marks now.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/11/2019 10:44

@VenusTiger
I think it is being fought now. But we will be losing more ground before we even start to recover any.

A few agreed that it would be best to boycott M&S en masse because this will have the more impact than some boycotting M&S, another Next, Debenhams and so on. And M&S is the biggie because it’s the one, we most trusted.

Callum99 · 13/11/2019 10:53

I always find the food quick and easy and they often have good deals but you need to look , like 3 mains for £6 and the fresh bread is always brilliant. Regarding changing room policy?? How many of you readers realise that 'back in my day' there were high street stores like top shop that had 'open' fitting rooms, also many schools now especially secondary schools have an open changing room policy, as well as in colleges, universities, sports centres so cant really see what all the fuss is about....m&s are just keeping up with the times surely?? 🤔

CandlesAreHere · 13/11/2019 10:56

I’m always disappointed with M&S food - for me, it promises but never delivers.

ForeverFaff · 13/11/2019 11:21

@Callum99 yes, but 'back in the day' we weren't pretending that men could become women and allowing them to share single sex spaces.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/11/2019 11:24

They used to be brilliant when you were out with little kids - nice clean and friendly cafe, clean loos and changing rooms.

If you went to the cafe during the day it was full of mums with little kids, older customers having a cup of tea after shopping, a lot of tourists (older, loads from ME) and a fair amount of religious Jewish women and kids. Very few of whom would be cool sharing a confined space with me where undressing was happening.

Seriously - what are they thinking?

IamPickleRick · 13/11/2019 11:49

I didn’t know that about the changing rooms. How disappointing.

I do really like the cafe though, especially at our big retail park, out of the standard costa, Starbucks etc I always pick M&S because they do jacket potatoes.

IamPickleRick · 13/11/2019 11:51

Callum99 I remember the open changing rooms of some shops and it was always a horrid experience. Blush

Callum99 · 13/11/2019 11:53

Faff - 30 years ago? So why are schools NOW, which have have such a high percentage of children who consider themselves different gendered, catering for everybody because that is what we should be doing as an inclusive society, and not leaving any body out? This is surely not encouraging anyone is it? As with other stores including m&s, just catering for all.....

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/11/2019 12:14

'Not leave anyone out'? Why not start with the disabled - those with visual impairments, those with dementia (a growing group), religious groups... Why are these groups not front and centre?

Single-sex areas have been created for very good reasons and we need to be teaching kids that 'gender' is a load of rubbish and certainly no basis or categorizing who gets changed where.

Remember PIE? Basically empowering pedophiles, and Harriet Harman backing them - and suggesting the age of consent dropped to 10? That was all seen as 'being inclusive' - I was only a kid then but even I knew these were the men my mum warned me about.

ForeverFaff · 13/11/2019 12:16

@Callum99 no, it's not 'catering for all', it's allowing an entire sex class to be ignored as 'meanies' for not allowing men to share their hard won spaces.

Do you honestly believe humans can change sex? We get no say in what sex we are born, nor do our parents. It's decided at conception, and observed at birth.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/11/2019 12:20

Ask who gains buy challenging the status quo? Who can be all that bothered that they fight for this? Who benefits?

AgeLikeWine · 13/11/2019 12:21

I agree completely. If you stick to buying M&S’s meal deals and ‘3 for £10’ promotions, their food is excellent value. Then just top up on basics at Lidl.

This is a savvy way to shop.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 13/11/2019 12:25

I used to love their food, but am now finding that the dreaded rapeseed oil is creeping into EVERYTHING! I am allergic to the stuff so am finding my choice being reduced all the time.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/11/2019 12:27

A M&S review from their website from July 2019 (so you can't say 'oh its those nasty feminists writing fake reviews'). Reviews are submitted, checked then uploaded.

One of the longest reviews I've seen on there.

'This bra is the best one that M&S makes - others are sexier but they don't fit as nicely as this one. Others are (slightly) comfier but they aren't as sexy as this one. The lace edging on the cups and straps, the lacy detailing around the chest, and how it fits to your shape is just fantastic. The only gripe is the hoops on the straps creak a bit as you move, but perhaps this will go away after washing. I got every colour and the matching knickers, but please M&S do a nice pink or blue, and I'll be buying more!'

IamPickleRick · 13/11/2019 12:28

Remember PIE? Basically empowering pedophiles, and Harriet Harman backing them - and suggesting the age of consent dropped to 10? That was all seen as 'being inclusive' - I was only a kid then but even I knew these were the men my mum warned me about.

I looked this up recently because my mum remembered and hates Harriet Harman. I thought she must have misremembered but no. I can’t believe that actually happened.

MollyHuaCha · 13/11/2019 12:32

M&S food is completely over packaged and is therefore to be avoided.

Almost all of their gluten free range has milk as an ingredient.

Coeliacs often have issues with digesting milk too so a lot of people who eat gluten free food cannot eat M&S gluten free food.

When I think of M&S generally, I just think of ready meals which everyone knows are not particularly healthy.

As for Percy Pigs... soapy little foam sweets with no merit whatsoever.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/11/2019 12:34

I still remember their very special vegan offering of ‘cauliflower steaks’ - lots of packaging and £££ for... a couple of slices of cauliflower.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/11/2019 14:59

Remember the PIE?
No I don’t remember them as a child. But became aware of them some time ago. Scary times. And we are living in scary times again.
