Are there any singers/actors/tv presenters whose continued success you find utterly baffling?

I’m just watching TOTP from 1988 and Kim Wilde’s on.

I’m sure she’s a lovely woman, but fuck me, the lass couldn’t sing. Or dance. Or mime.
And yet, she’s still doing the rounds, all these decades later.

God yes, Gregg Wallace, the luckiest man in showbiz.

I’ve started to feel the same way about Zoe Ball, too. I used to like her, but the Radio 2 Breakfast Show is painfully exposing her limitations. I keep giving it another go and turning it off after ten minutes. Listening to it actually makes me feel stressed on her behalf

As is often the case the first poster nails it. Toss Daily, or, as she’s (un) affectionately known in this house TessBot100 - frequently malfunctions.

Agreed. Them and Steve Wright must have formed some evil triumvirate, there’s no other explanation.

Another one for Keira Knightley. She is the same in everything, wooden as fuck, playing some variation on a posh English woman.

Cheryl Tweedy. Don’t get it at all. Can’t sing, can’t dance, not an actor, not likeable or interesting. And it’s not even her looks that won her the fame because she’s basically got an entirely different face and body than she did when she first appeared. It really does baffle me.

Tom Cruise is another one. I know he is an icon and everything but I just don’t understand why. I don’t think his acting is anything noteworthy. He’s been in some cracking films but I think they’d have been equally good with someone else as the leading man. There’s just something very synthetic about him. And all that culty stuff too 😬

Keira Knightly was the first person that sprung to mind. Bland, wooden.

Daniel Radcliffe is also a very wooden actor - only got a break in acting because of his producer parents and he looked cute as a young David Copperfield, and because he was hired for the first Harry Potter they were stuck with him.

Adam Sandler. Only seems to play the exact same character in every film.

Cheryl. And what's worse is the respectable artists who are keen to work with her e.g. Gary Barlow doing that duet with her at the Queen Jubilee celebrations (YouTube it, it's woeful) they can't honestly think she's talented or able to sing?

Scarlett Moffat. Total pointless celeb

Agree Keira Knightley. Most reality tv "celebs" like towie, mic.

I tried watching the Kardashians once. It just kept showing one or another of them whinging (with annoying vocal fry) in the back of a limo, then shopping for designer clothes. I couldn’t get into it, and I’ll happily watch Dinner Date, Coach Trip and a load of other rubbish.

Our 6th Form Entertainment show 30 years ago was funnier - and I cringe even recalling that.

Michael McIntyre - just not funny
Victoria Beckham - not talented
Angelina Jolie - holier than thou
Madonna - career based on her tits and front bottom

I will never understand how Gregg Greengrocer Wallace gets to judge professional chefs.

Though, I did like the documentary he did about how pencils are made. Seeing them rolled through the machines, being sandwiched together, cut to shape, then painted with several layers of paint was wonderfully nostalgic.
